Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has denied he is stepping down because of fears that new London Mayor Sadiq Khan would not reappoint him over concerns about a report into the Met's handling of investigations into historical sexual abuse claims.
He has form for covering up child sexual abuse by powerful people from when he was deputy chief constable of Merseyside Police: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/metropolitan-police-chief-sir-bernard-5353419

I was thinking earlier about George Oldfield, who died a broken man having failed to crack the Yorkshire Ripper case. I wonder if BHH will have any similar regrets about not seeing the resolution of the Madeleine McCann investigation on his watch?

Still some time yet.

He should be off to Leicester himself to cuff them and speed things up a bit.

A great swansong for the old chap.

(Is it me or does he look more like 70 odd than 58..)

All a ruse my friend.

They didn't believe the 3 burglar garbage anymore than we did.

He might look like a bumbling buffoon but I think he clearly knows what happened about Madeleine's demise.

And he's got a chance to exit on a high. But will he though.......

I guess that depends on whether BHH is an honest copper like George Oldfield or whether he's corrupt/being blackmailed. Michael Murrin of the UK column has publicly claimed to have evidence of the latter. (https://nationalinquiry.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/ipcc-hogan-howe.pdf)

Yep, and its that sort of thing in the background that greatly influences my negative views of OG, especially when read in conjunction with this:http://www.ukcolumn.org/oldforums/index.php?p=/discussion/9692/time-to-get-rid-of-teresa-may-michael-murrin-writes-open-letter-saying-why (Its linked to in the letter above but that link is broken)

For clarity, I'm not seeking to go off topic and convince anyone that Grange isn't genuine, I'm just suggesting that perhaps BHH isn't as squeaky clean as perhaps he should be

To be honest I have never had any faith in this man, although he does seem quite astute in dropping little hints here and there when necessary as in 'murder' latterly in the Madeleine case. The fact he is
friendly with Kate's parents speaks volumes in my opinion ..... interesting times ahead.

I'm shocked and disgusted if there's any truth in that BHH stuff. It's half expected I guess with a lot of these fat, sweaty ex MP's and the like but for the top man in Police - well I feel sick.

I'm off for a pint.

He rode past me at Trooping the Colour, and he does look much older than he is. He has always seemed an ambition driven man with little empathy or concern for others

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/1883183/met-police-chief-sir-bernard-hogan-howes-reign-dogged-by-controversy/

OUTGOING Metropolitan Police boss Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe quit before he was pushed, say insiders — and walked away with a pension pot worth £9million.

The Scotland Yard Commissioner will step down seven months before the end of his contract over “unbearable tensions” with new London Mayor Sadiq Khan, sources said last night.

Source reveal rumoured ‘unbearable tensions’ between Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe and Sadiq Khan
His £9million gold-plated pension will give him an annual taxpayer-funded income of £181,500 a year.

Details of his final payday emerged as sources said Sir Bernard had announced his “retirement” because he feared he would get the bullet.

The Met is expecting heavy criticism from a judge-led review into the disastrous Operation Midland historic child sex probe, due to be published in the coming days.

So Bernie boy has jumped before he was pushed thereby protecting his pension. But, correct me if I'm wrong here; wouldn't he still receive his pension even if he was let go? Unless his imminent sacking ( if there was going to be one) was for gross misconduct, where he would in all likliehood lose it, of course.
My guess would be he was informed that leaving early and keeping very, very quiet was in his best interests. Expect a book and a round of after-dinner speaking to ensue.
I am sick of these high profile people who often turn out to have deep dark secrets, being given positions of power so that they are malleable to tptb.
Not saying BHH is complicit in anything but it does make you wonder.

Popular opinion has it that the next commissioner could well be a woman. Dead eye Dick is not the only name in the frame
