I'd say we are about 50/50 on those who agree and those who are sympathising with the parents. Not one comment on the efits suppression or questioning the abduction. I did type up a comment but not keen to give my email address. Perhaps that's what they are relying on so we will only get milder comments.

I suspect the comments are being moderated that way....Look at the comment ratings to see the bigger picture.

A copper I vaguely know has just posted a link to the article on fb. Few comments as yet - so far none complimentary to Katie Hopkins but all supporting her view. Don't know his friends but guess a fair few have the sane employer.

Also interesting to see the tweet posted above mentioning truth and lies. In my view a clever way of saying she's read GA's book.

I usually despise most of what she says but while some of it is harsh it is to a degree true eg the one about the children's names. She publishes what a lot of people are too scared to say or don't like to admit to. Other times she's downright offensive. It strikes me though that she gets away with it. No one sues her. She may be rude but she's not thick. I doubt she publishes anything that has not been checked by the lawyers first.

I agree Chilli, I do think KH has read 'The Truth of the Lie'. According to posts on fb tonight
she has also been sent a copy of Richard Hall's latest documentary.

new overnight stories at the DM don't acquire the reader comments until the moderators arrive for work and release them between 7 and 8am, so many of those will have been waiting for approval since the story was first published online. Hence the sudden flood of comments.

hi BP, each new reader comment wouldnt count as an update, only changes to the story itself.
I suppose an update might also register when someone arrives for work and presses the button that releases all the comments in the overnight queue but I would have to investigate that!

Can't believe people blame the parents, Kate is so beautiful she'd never do anything to intentionally harm anyone...

Let's not forget that "media monitoring" also involves paying people to write positive comments and respond with outrage to negative press stories.....

It was all very quiet on the 'paid shill' sites yesterday (JATYK/STM), so it looks like they were 'assigned' to try and inject some McFavourness into the DM comments.

First the "charity" articles then pulling the twins into the news and now this. Something big has, or is about to, happen IMO.

I can't see Rebekah Brooks or Rupert Murdoch being happy that the Daily Mail is getting so much attention when the McCanns are effectively their creation. The old style farticles supporting the McCanns simply don't get the same number of views as this new critical piece and, for the press, it is as it ever was, all about money.

I think that the dam is about to break.

A controversial article by Katie Hopkins in which she criticises the parents of Madeleine McCann has sparked a frenzied reaction online.
The outspoken columnist said it was “time to speak out” after Kate and Gerry McCann fronted a campaign to raise awareness of the Child Rescue Alerts scheme, which sends out text messages and emails if a child goes missing.
Ms Hopkins, a mother of three, wrote in her Daily Mail column that the couple were “too self-assured to hire a babysitter and too self-centred to care” before the three-year-old disappeared in Portugal in 2007.


She also said Kate and Gerry McCann "didn't deserve £11million of our cash to look for Maddie."

“If you really must blame someone, then Kate and Gerry are right there in front of you,” she wrote.
“Show me a family from a council estate who left their child alone to go out eating and drinking who have been lauded with such support and the protection of the state.”

She added: “The McCanns put their own children in harm’s way. Those kids were in danger. Because of their parents ...
"Now the faces I associate with neglect are being used to promote the Child Rescue Alert campaign ...

The article has provoked a massive reaction online and sharply divided opinion among readers. Many backed Ms Hopkins on social media while others criticised her for “victim blaming” the McCanns and “rubbing salt” into their wounds.
One Twitter user said: "Agree with absolutely everything @KTHopkins has said about Maddie's disappearance, she's only saying what the rest of you think anyway."
Anna (@HalfBloodAnna) tweeted: “Katie Hopkins victim blaming the McCanns suggests people have no self control, the blame lies with whoever wrongly took what wasn't theirs.”
Another user said: “There’s lots about this story that many people have felt uncomfortable with – but no one has dared say it before, well done.”
“Yes they made a terrible mistake,” wrote another commenter.
“Thousands do the same thing every day and get away with it. Cruel for Hopkins to rub salt in it surely. How did she become our moral guide?”

"Call me cynical, but I believe the mixed messages in the British media about the McCanns - the suffering they still have to endure but the fact that the suffering is also partially their own fault - is a prelude to the closing of the Scotland Yard investigation. The British public can feel bad for the McCanns that the police are giving up but not totally bad because they got more than they deserved since they shouldn't have left their children unattended. The British public can also feel good that they tried hard to find Madeleine via their own tax money and their country's police resources but not too bad when the failed investigation calls it a day".

Well if you google 'truth behind the lies' then it does direct you to the 'the truth of the lie - GA's book'.....

Maybe that was a clever intention on her part as I don't think a direct link to GA's book would be allowed (or might get in her trouble).

The Mcs are reaping what they sowed.

But what bothers me about this whole case is how thoughtless all this publicity is in terms of the Mc surviving children. Surely they should be protected? I know the parents are to blame for it all but the twins are not responsible for their parents' negligent behaviour.

Still, who can forget that footage of KM whining on the steps of the court in Portugal after their Amaral case that they had to get babysitters to go to Portugal for the trial.
