Good point, Popcorn.

Most people will probably have had no idea of any connection between him and the McCanns.

As mentioned earlier - it very much suits Team McCanns agenda at this desperate moment in time...

It gets people talking about the 'P' link which they themselves have pushed from the get go.

Yes, good point  if you look on MSN the two stories are on the same page together.  This is very odd indeed and like Popcorn says why not mention all the other famous people he has met and entertained......  why is it the McCanns are being spoken of in the same breath.  Interesting.

I can't see that myself.

A peodophile, who is deceased, who had a house in PDL, who befriended them 'in there hour of need'... etc.

People who are not as informed as us will now be thinking 'maybe he did it, or was involved in the abduction etc'...

If it takes any suspicion away from them, then that's in their interest, surely...

I think if he was still alive then it would be reported completely different to what it is now.

Well it wouldn't be reported at all if he was still alive to be fair.

That's what it looks like and look at all the links to Freud, Labour PM, Tory PM, Murdoch, Mitchell, Brooks, Earl Spencer, even Bono was at his funeral. So why focus on the McCann link?

I agree Popcorn.

The press were very quick off the mark to link this to Madeleine. There's something going on in the background that we can't see yet.

Clement Freud's widow Jill's reaction is odd as well. She completely accepts that her, now deceased husband, of 59 years molested these girls, expresses sympathy and apologises to them. It reads like a damage limitation exercise, that she already knew what he was like and that this isn't the worst of it.

My thoughts only.

Oh dear Andrew - are the media really going to insinuate that an 80 plus year old was the actual abductor?

Snipped from updated DM article:

The revelation that Freud was in Praia da Luz the year Madeleine went missing, and is now named as a child abuser, will be a 'shock' to the McCanns.
A source close to the couple said: 'It certainly raises a lot of questions. They will be appalled to hear the details.'

... As I said - they want these 'questions' to be out there. It suits them.

Imo.

So is this correct,

The McCanns did not go round Clement Freud's house until late on the night of being made arguidos.  Who on earth would go that late at night after a gruelling time at the police station??

coco ‏@maybe_coco · 29m

@JillyCL @KillingJokez @WarkArdPlayArd I doubt it as they didn't go til 9.50p.m. And stayed for a couple of hours #McCann

JillyCL
‏@JillyCL
@maybe_coco I doubt it too, especially as the invitation was for dinner, which they had to change

Missed this article from earlier...

Mentions the dog conversation.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/14/how-clement-freud-invited-kate-and-gerry-mccann-for-lunch-after/

ETA - In reply to CF's post above..

Snipped from article.

On the day the McCanns were formally made suspects in the investigation in September 2007, they had been due to go to dinner at Freud’s house again, but cancelled it.

Nevertheless, he rang them at 9.50pm that night to invite them for a drink, while warning them: “You’ll have to forgive my night-time attire.”

Thanks Andrew, missed that bit skim reading again Embarassed So as I said, after gruelling questioning and being made arguidos, they go off for a little drinkie with Clement Freud at 10.00 at night.......... now that is something I don't understand, you would surely be bereft and wanting to chat with family at a time like that, most odd, having drinks out.

Did Clement himself ever say that he invited the McCanns round?

When did the McCanns first mention it?

I think the first I heard of it was in Kate's book about herself. Which obviously came out well after Clement died.

Did this even happen?

Anyway - Portugal Resident got it up now:

They were obviously in deep trouble so needed further re-assurance from the upper tier of the pyramid.

Kate wrote they went twice, earlier in the summer for a 'bloody' good salad and risotto and cocktails, then the arguido night for brandy, the first time she had ever tasted brandy she said, mmm Hot Lips !

The arguido night makes no sense, they were supposed to be with the family and solicitors. Unless CF was somehow involved and they were getting their stories straight.

Re: Sir Clement Freud and links to the McCanns

I've just realised (bit slow on the uptake this morning) I've been watching The Oscar Pistorius sentencing on Sky News. They've been flicking between that and Philip Green being questioned about BHS and are now showing PMQs. There's also the scrolling banner with other bits of news but the first time I saw mention Of Clement Freud was when I looked at this site.

There is nothing, and there has been nothing that I've seen, on Sky News about Clement Freud.

On the Sky News website, there is an article about him but no mention of the McCanns: http://news.sky.com/story/1712106/sir-clement-freud-accused-of-abusing-girls whereas the BBC say "Freud was friends with Gerry and Kate McCann - parents of three-year-old Madeleine, who disappeared in Praia la Luz, Portugal, in 2007." :http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36535263

If this was coming from Team McCann, I would have expected Sky to be all over it like a rash & with the BBC staying silent about the connection, not vice versa.

P.S. Brunty is in Pretoria giving his pronouncements on the Oscar Pistorius trial.

Another thing which is odd, (anyone got the relevant extract) was that he allegedly was in his night attire, yet he knew very well they were coming for drinks and warned them he would be dressed like that. Why????? You ask people over and decide to greet them in your nightwear, WTF!!

LadyLeFaye ‏@KillingJokez ·

Mrs #McCann recalled: “We found Clement.. dressed, as promised, in his nightshirt. It was so ordinary and comforting' 2nd visit?

Here it is...

Quote:
Nevertheless, he rang them at 9.50pm that night to invite them for a drink, while warning them: “You’ll have to forgive my night-time attire.”
Mrs McCann recalled: “We found Clement watching a cookery programme, dressed, as promised, in his nightshirt. It was so ordinary and comforting, a bit like going to see your grandad after a horrible day at school.

“He gave me one of his looks and a giant glass of brandy, and managed to get a smile out of me with his greeting: ‘So, Kate, which of the devout Catholic, alcoholic, depressed, nymphomaniac parts is correct?’

Also snipped from that Telegraph article:

Gerry McCann phoned the number on the letter, discovered it was not a prank, and the next day the McCanns were at Freud’s villa with their twins Sean and Amelie, plus three friends who had stayed in Portugal to help them.

... has it ever been mentioned who the 3 friends were?
