Third runway at Heathrow - Good or bad idea?
Third runway at Heathrow cleared for takeoff by ministers
So is this good for the economy and this country or a very bad idea. The Government has backed the idea, and the MP's will be allowed to vote. Is it a death sentence for villages all round Heathrow? What do you think.

John McDonnell
BBC
Labour's shadow chancellor John McDonnell, whose constituency includes Heathrow Airport, says the government's backing of a third runway is "appalling".
It was the worst of the three options and repeats the mistakes of the Labour government who backed it in 2009, he tells BBC News.
"No government can get over the science" of the extra air pollution.
The decision is also "toxic politically - it will rouse a campaign against it", he adds.

Some more responses from Business Live readers about the government's decision to back a third runway at Heathrow. Thanks for all the ones that have come in so far, keep them coming.
Yet another decision to further separate the SE of England from the remainder of the UK. The current Heathrow is expensive for the traveller, with premium airfares being charged for the 'privilege' of using this monstrosity and the prices in airport shops for mundane items bordering on the obscene. If the 'Northern Powerhouse' is to happen, how is it going to eventuate if most development is in the SE? That's assuming that HS2 can still be afforded because without it, getting to Heathrow just means another long trek. Londonistan is alive and well - and could well be another country. I'll continue using Amsterdam as my international hub of choice.

I despair at this country - how did Brunel manage to get things built? How did Chep Lak Kok get built so quickly? If we are serious about maintaining this country as a global power outside the EU, why not approve Heathrow AND Gatwick, use compulsory purchase orders and start Jan 01 2017. I am no nimby - I live near Gatwick and this would affect me but I would welcome it with open arms.

Just spoke to @CarolineLucas who tells me she's not ruling out chaining herself to the Heathrow runway in direct action @LBC
comments:
Friends of the Earth: Head of campaigns Andrew Pendleton, who lives under the flightpath in west London, said: “Expanding Heathrow would be a hugely damaging blow for local people, and makes a complete mockery of government commitments to tackle climate change.
Greenpeace: Greenpeace UK executive director John Sauven said: “A third runway at Heathrow would be a waste of time, money and lives. It would make Londoners’ air more dangerous to breathe, contributing to an air pollution crisis that already kills thousands.
Green Party: Heathrow expansion a 'wrecking ball' through climate commitments.

My challenge to the Government: how can this disastrous #Heathrow plan possibly fit with the UK's climate change obligations? #NoNewRunways

There you go you have your 'don't care' option now. Must say we should all be worried about pollution and the wildlife and environment, surely? Just because it is not on your doorstep doesn't mean you shouldn't care.
