Re: Sherri Papini: a scam in the making?
Detectives have authored close to 20 search warrants and they said they’re examining cellphone records, bank accounts, email and social media profiles. Investigators have declined to discuss what prompted them to file the search warrants or why detectives have traveled out of state.

Re: Sherri Papini: a scam in the making?
Came across this website when was looking for some latest news on the case:
http://heavy.com/news/2016/11/sherri-papini-kidnapped-abducted-hoax-mexicans-truth-lie-fake-publicity-redding-california-facebook-photos-police-reward-gofundme/
An interesting snippet (if true of course)
An anonymous source told Heavy that they were advised that Papini’s “extended family” claimed she had staged her own abduction in 2006.

Her family name is definitely Graeff according to this link which does make it very likely - in view of the unusual name - that she wrote the rant about Latinos.

P.S. Another link gives her parents' names.

I stumbled across that blog earlier as well. The comments left are interesting and worth a read. There was a link to a load of wedding photos. I found myself watching Planet Earth and having a nosey at all the happy day snaps at the same time.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/police-reason-disbelieve-sherri-papinis-story-investigating-past/story?id=43816705
Police investigating the alleged kidnapping of a 34-year-old California mother say they have no reason not to believe her story, after she was found on the side of a road injured and bound by restraints on Thanksgiving.
"We currently have no reason to disbelieve Sherri Papini's story, Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko said on Sunday. "She was assaulted and had injuries which she was treated for."
The Sheriff also said that investigators are looking into past incidents with Sherri Papini and are aware of her previous marriage and divorce and are checking into her past, including any online activity.
Investigators put out 20 warrants for data including surveillance cameras and cell towers. The camera footage, from locations in Yolo County and the city of Redding, include homes, business, a church, motels and traffic cameras.

Re: Sherri Papini: a scam in the making?
Once I read about the speed of the gofundme page being set up I felt sure it was a con, confirmed when now that she is home there is no word of paying the money back. there seems to have been some paid 'expert(s)' doing mediation/whatever - mediating with who - no ransom demands apparently.
Compare the McCann Fund - set up in days - employed useless 'experts' - still money in the bank but doing nothing as far as we know and certainly not going to help other missing children like Ben Needham.
then one report says she was badly battered; another she needed medical attention - not the same thing. You could make yourself muddy and dirty, get some scratches walking through bushes and look quite bad.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3980656/Ransom-negotiator-praises-bravery-kidnapped-Sherri-Papini-reveals-100k-reward.html
Snips:
The ransom money offered for the safe release of a Californian woman who went missing three weeks ago may now go to her family after she was found battered but alive on Thanksgiving Day.
Seeing as the money went unclaimed, part of it may now be given to the Papini family to help support them, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Cameron Gamble, a defense contractor who helps with overseas hostage situations, was hired by the anonymous donor to help negotiate. He said the donor still wanted to 'support the family in any way he can to ensure they receive the necessary treatment for their recovery.'
Gamble said the amount that could potentially go to Papini and her family was 'really up to him (the donor) at this point.'
'There's only one hero in this. It's Sherri Papini. She found the key to stay alive,' Gamble told the Sacremento Bee.

A blond woman resembling missing California mom Sherri Papini was spotted looking ‘scared’ inside a dark SUV while with two men at a truck stop - just two days before Papini was dumped on a freeway after three weeks in captivity.
Witness Christine Everson feared for the woman’s safety after seeing her at the Travel Center stop on the outskirts of Redding, California at around 7pm on Tuesday last week.
Everson attempted to communicate with the woman, who was sitting in the truck and seemed ‘subdued’, ‘extremely hesitant’ and ‘scared’, and called 911 to report the sighting.
It’s not clear whether police acted on her tip and Christine concedes she can’t be 100% certain it was Sherri.

Re: Sherri Papini: a scam in the making?
http://abcnews.go.com/US/gma-exclusive-husband-sherri-papini-speaks-familys-ordeal/story?id=43840659
The husband of a Sherri Papini, a California mom who went missing for three weeks after allegedly being kidnapped while out for a jog, is speaking out about his family's ordeal in an exclusive statement to "Good Morning America."
Sherri Papini went missing on Nov. 2 and was finally found three weeks later, on Thanksgiving, on the side of a road and bound by restraints, according to police. The mother of two young children, she was described by her family as a "super mom."
Keith Papini said he was grateful to thousands of people who have reached out to his family during what he called "this torturous journey."
"Thank you to the many incredible humans that have never known Sherri that facilitated in sharing our heartbreak across the globe," he said in the statement. "Sherri has always captured my heart and it is no surprise that she has captured the hearts not only through the country, but throughout the world."
But after giving thanks for all the support, Keith addressed the increasing scrutiny brought on by all the attention his wife's alleged kidnapping has received.
Calling it a "double edged sword," he said he is grateful that his wife's story spread quickly "throughout the world," but added that, "Rumors, assumptions, lies, and hate have been both exhausting and disgusting.
"We are not going to allow those people to take away our spirit, love, or rejoice in our girl found alive and home where she belongs," Keith added. "I understand people want the story, pictures, proof that this was not some sort of hoax, plan to gain money, or some fabricated race war. I do not see a purpose in addressing each preposterous lie."
Keith described in detail the condition he found his wife in when they were reunited in the hospital after she was found.
"Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see upon my arrival at the hospital, nor the details of the true hell I was about to hear," he writes. "My first sight was my wife in a hospital bed, her face covered in bruises ranging from yellow to black because of repeated beatings, the bridge of her nose broken."
He added that when he reunited with his wife she weighed only 87 pounds and her signature blonde hair had been chopped off.
Here is the statement in full:
The first thing I would like to address is the overwhelming amount of gratitude our entire family has for the thousands of people that have been on this torturous journey with us. I cannot possibly name each and every person, although their names are eternally etched in our hearts. Thank you to our strong family, devoted friends, the entire Redding community, and countless communities around the world. Specific thanks to the Shasta County Sheriff”s department, FBI, NorCal Alliance for the Missing, The Lost Coast Trackers, Shasta Support Services, The Guardian Angels, my own personal A-Team, Cameron Gamble, Cody Salfen, Jim Linnan, Sean Ditty, Don Armstrong, Yolo County Sheriff's department and hospital, the medical personnel that helped our dear Sherri, social media, and many news outlets. Thank you to LRT Graphics and Signarama. Thank you to the extremely generous, anonymous as well as named donors all over the world whom selflessly gave to our family. Thank you to the many incredible humans that have never known Sherri that facilitated in sharing our heart break across the globe. Sherri has always captured my heart and it is no surprise that she has captured the hearts not only through the country, but throughout the world. Thank you, truly, immensely, sincerely, and with my entire heart.
Secondly, we live in a nation of free speech, accompanied with an era of technology that provides immediate gratification. This is a double edged sword. I am grateful for this system as it is what spread my wife's face quickly throughout the world, gaining the attention of thousands. The unfortunate side is that some people have been sitting in angering, expectant, positions waiting for the gory details.
Rumors, assumptions, lies, and hate have been both exhausting and disgusting. Those people should be ashamed of their malicious, sub human behavior. We are not going to allow those people to take away our spirit, love, or rejoice in our girl found alive and home where she belongs. I understand people want the story, pictures, proof that this was not some sort of hoax, plan to gain money, or some fabricated race war. I do not see a purpose in addressing each preposterous lie. Instead, may I give you a glimpse of the mixture of horror and elation that was my experience of reuniting with the love of my life and mother of our children.
Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see upon my arrival at the hospital, nor the details of the true hell I was about to hear. The mental prison I was in over the past three weeks was shattered when my questions of my wife's reality became known.
The officers warned me to brace myself. My first sight was my wife in a hospital bed, her face covered in bruises ranging from yellow to black because of repeated beatings, the bridge of her nose broken.
Her now emaciated body of 87 pounds was covered in multi colored bruises, severe burns, red rashes, and chain markings. Her signature long, blonde hair had been chopped off. She has been branded and I could feel the rise of her scabs under my fingers. She was thrown from a vehicle with a chain around her waist, attached to her wrists and a bag over her head. The same bag she used to flag someone down once she was able to free one of her hands. Sherri was taken from us for 22 days, and suffered incredibly through both intense physical agony and severe mental torture. My reaction was one of extreme happiness and overwhelming nausea as my eyes and hands scanned her body. I was filled with so much relief and revulsion at once. My Sherri suffered tremendously and all the visions swirling in your heads of her appearance, I assure you, are not as graphic and gruesome as the reality.
We are a very private family whom do not use social media outlets prior to this grotesque tragedy. My love for my wife took precedents and it was clear we had to be exposed in ways we never would have been comfortable with. So please have a heart and understand why we have asked for our privacy. This will be along road of healing for everyone. Ultimately, it was Sherri's will to survive that brought her home. Thank you.

I really don't want to believe that this is a scam (honest guv) but I'm finding it difficult to get past that GoFundMe account set up by her husband.

Re: Sherri Papini: a scam in the making?
I just watched that video on the above 1st link. Not sure what to make of it, apart from the former FBI agent at the end talking out of his arse.
I still think it's a hoax and she's being doing some self-harm to acquire said bruises/marks etc.
Be interesting to find out what this 'message' is that's been branded onto her.

Pat definitely thinks there's something very fishy about the case - that's the way I read it.
It's rather ironic that Elizabeth Smart has commented as many people, myself included, think that it's very unlikely that we have been told the truth of what happened to her.
