Presuming that it isn't resolved by the time of the election, what do you think will happen to OG?

It was, after all, initiated by David Cameron in 2011, one year after the last General Election. It is, so to speak, his baby. Will a change of government affect it?

To be honest I think if Labour win the Election they would close down Operation Grange, after all this case began on their watch, and what with all the fallout that has been since, I'm sure they would just want to be rid of it. I can't really see Labour winning personally, although I may be wrong. I live in Scotland and it seems Labour will lose a good few seats to SNP, (not sure about that again to be honest). I hope the Government remains the same as there may be a chance this case will finally come to its obvious conclusion. Really don't want to sound too political here, just my take on it.

Labour would probably try there best to bury it like the last bumbling lot who latched onto it and made dicks of themselves as they were too stupid to grasp what actually went on before it was too late and had to save face regardless.

Or they admit they made mistakes and will do everything to sort it the honest and correct way and finally resolve the 'Maddie McCann Mystery' and bring those responsible to justice and I don't mean some smelly patsy.

I don't know what to think really. Would they? I suppose it would depend where the investigation had got to. We won't know that but government would be told.

I don't think that the reason the review began has been looked at closely enough. We all heard about it and were surprised and immediately started to look at what would come of it but not the reasoning why it happened at all.

The Mccanns wrote an open letter to DC and within days he agreed. Why? I don't believe that the Rebecca Brooks' threat of putting Theresa May on the front page for a week would have a Prime Minister running scared.

Why throw money at this case and not, say, Ben Needham which had been going on for far longer. It wasn't for political gain as there was no election in the offing and he had 4 more years in government.

Before the Mccanns wrote their open letter there had already been discussions between Portugal and the Foreign Office as to how to begin a review and apparently this was unknown to the Mccanns.

Theresa May was reluctant to help the Mccanns when they approached but she was brought onside by Cameron.

Could Rebecca Brooks and The Sun has been used as a 'tool' for all this to start. The Mccanns were taken by surprise by the sudden agreement. It was not quite what they asked for. They wanted an 'independent' review not a Met review. Their response was 'very pleased' not 'overjoyed'. They have been quite muted in ther enthusiasm for it ever since.

BTW, I too hope Labour don't get in!

Sorry if this has been a bit long but it is something I have been pondering on.

The recent rumblings have come from police bodies who would not have been privy to what is actually going on. This would be known to only a very few people for reasons of operational security. Funding for this operation does not come from the Met budget. You have not heard any rumblings from OG itself.

It's from the Home Office, same reasoning. New home secretary, new priorities?

Possibly, but the directive came from the PM instructing the Home Office to open the review. I don't know if a 'new' Home Office could make the decision to close the review without agreement from the new PM.  I don't know how these things work.

If Labour win the Election do you think it will affect Operation Grange? Empty 2017 General election

Post  Guest Sun 07 May 2017, 12:18 pm

Thought I'd bump this thread from 2015 as we have another election next month.

No is my response.

Reluctantly, I have come to the conclusion that OG is a sham.  I hope to be proved wrong.

I'm also disgusted at the never-ending flow of cash given to OG.

I think Labour would have more reason to bury it than the Conservatives because Blair and Brown are far more culpable for the sycophantic treatment of the McCanns than Cameron and May. I'm pretty sure Brown abused his power by supporting the McCanns and if  there is ever a public enquiry, Brown is top of my list for possible dodgy dealings.

Labour won`t get, but if they did, I agree, they`d bury it. I`m agreeing with WUD.

Also Alan Johnson would also look a bit of a dick after the way he`s run down the Portuguese police.

What people need to realise is that Jeremy Corbyn's Labour is a very different entity to New Labour, with it's trappings of corruption and self-interest. Tony BLiar's vision was simply a continuation of what Thatcher started, a society fuelled by materialism and selfishness, where money and wealth are harnessed by the few at the expense of the many. By definition, then, the people forming the government overseeing such a culture were themselves promotors of this, and is why we had such characters as Brown, Hodge, Johnson et al, who are about as far away from the beliefs and values of the roots of the Labour Party as it is possible to be. Labour under their care had become an imitation of the conservatives, which is why policies became unpopular, "What's the point of voting, they're all the same and all in it for themselves".

As New, BLiar, Labour, Labour had moved so far from its roots as to become unrecognizable. Jeremy Corbyn has halted that. He has staffed his Shadow Cabinet with people of integrity and honour. People who represent those with least in society. The BLiar-rite Labour Party who commanded support from people like the McCanns has gone. Jeremy Corbyn's Labour represents the weak majority at the expense of the rich minority. So I do think if Labour win they would finish OG. Not because they want a cover-up and to protect the likes of Brown (I think Corbyn would be more than happy to see the procurators of New Labour exposed for what they are), but because he would find it unacceptable to waste public money on a sham. It is worth noting that Alan Johnson hates the Corbyn administration and has worked continually to undermine it in every way he can. Thankfully, he has resigned as a candidate and will not be an MP any more.

A really good post Dee Coy but I think the damage has been done. I feel the Blair Brown era is going to take a lot of getting over and has made a lot of us more cynical than we've ever been.
