NHS Cyber Attack

BREAKING NEWS: Computer systems and phones are down in hospitals across England as NHS is hit by large-scale cyber attack

The NHS has been hit by a major cyber attack and criminals have taken control of computers and cut off phone lines across England.
Medics have claimed that messages are flashing up on screens saying they must pay cash or terminals are down completely.
NHS England has confirmed that it has been attacked but would not give any further details.

Let's go back to paper records, much more secure. On the plus side wonder if they could have a look at a certain innocent little girl's records.

It is... but then between the human factor of how these things spread, and the fact the vulnerability that led to this was patched by Microsoft 2 months ago, it will keep happening.

I had a look at how 'simple' it would be to fix this vulnerability myself manually (Granted I'm comfortable with computers but no expert). Depending on which version of Windows it is it simply requires changing a setting in the registry or PowerShell. Of course in a organisation the size of the NHS with hundreds of thousands of PC's I'm guessing? making sure every single one is updated takes time and the vast majority of the users of these PC's aren't experts and just know enough to do their job. It seems unfair to expect them to have even a reasonable knowledge of security vulnerabilities of Windows.

Let's hope some clever clogs comes up with a solution that eliminates these scum from making money like this.

I'm on the care side,the next door trust has got severe problems, the one I work for has cancelled stuff over the weekend
