Goodness, from the headline it sounds as if a mad axe man had been on the loose but it is likely to be classed as non-suspicious, alcohol-related.

Probably a rupture of his liver and the resulting haemorrage.

Private detective who ‘conned McCanns out of £300,000’ found dead
Tom HerbertSaturday 13 Jan 2018 6:22 pm
A private detective accused of conning the McCanns out of £300,000 has been found dead at a Surrey mansion covered in blood. Police have launched a probe into the death of Kevin Halligen, who took over the private investigation into Maddie McCann’s disappearance in May 2008.
The 56-year-old was said to have enjoyed a lavish lifestyle at the expense of the Find Madeleine fund despite acting as if he was a ‘cloak-and-dagger, James Bond-style spy’. A heavy drinker, Halligen had agreed a £500,000 fee with Kate and Gerry McCann a year after she went missing after failing to come with any plausible leads into her disappearance. The McCanns believed Halligen to be in a ‘different league’ to other private investigators as he boasted of ties with ex-FBI, CIA and Special Forces officers.
Initially impressed with the Dublin-born Halligen, they began to find him ‘hard to deal with’, according to a family friend who told the Mail Online. After questions began to be raised about Halligen and his firm Oakley, they cut ties early into the contract after paying him £300,000.
It is believed Halligen was found at the home he shared with his long-term girlfriend, with the house ‘covered in blood apparently from Kevin falling down so much’. Defence consultant Tim Craig-Harvey, a former associate of Halligen, wrote online: ‘The lies and alcohol finally caught up with him.’ Another source told MailOnline: ‘He died at his girlfriend’s place near Guildford, a miserable pathetic death caused by alcohol.’
Surrey Police told the newspaper they were called to a house in Cobbett Hill Road on Monday, to reports of a man in his 50s being taken unwell who subsequently died. A file will be passed to the coroner’s office. There is no suggestion his girlfriend or any former associates are involved in his death.

Re: The mysterious death of Kevin Halligen
I always found it exceedingly difficult to believe that with all of the "best" advice available to them, the McCanns decided to go with a "detective" who was so dodgy from the onset. Surely due diligence ahead of time would have revealed just what a fraud this guy was. My question at the onset was why go with this particular guy instead of hiring a better-known and legit PI firm - of which there are MANY, all with excellent track records.
My thoughts? Is it ok to suggest that Mr Halligen may also have been involved in a money laundering scheme?

So this has only hit the news hours ago, when Halligen died last Monday. Now don't tell me that isn't odd in this age of superfast communication.

I think that is likely just to be The Star's usual "high standards" of accuracy.
I doubt very much that anyone else was involved.

I agree Freedom however maybe the McCanns are a tad concerned that their name is being linked to a man who was ????????? etc.

Madeleine McCann investigator Kevin Halligen found dead
The death of Kevin Halligen, who was previously jailed for fraud, is being treated as "unexplained" by police.
19:21, UK,
By Martin Brunt, Crime Correspondent
Police are investigating the death of one of the first private detectives hired by the parents of missing Madeleine McCann.
Kevin Halligen, 56, was found unwell at his girlfriend's Surrey home and later died.
Police are treating his death as "unexplained" and are expected to pass a report to a coroner.
Mr Halligen's company, Oakley International, was hired on a £500,000 contract by Kate and Gerry McCann and the administrators of the Find Madeleine Fund in 2008, a year after their daughter vanished in Portugal.
The McCanns had become frustrated with the failure of the Portuguese police to find Madeleine or any clue to what happened to her.
Image: Kate and Gerry McCann's daughter Madeleine disappeared in Portugal
Mr Halligen portrayed himself as a James Bond-type figure, though a source said he was later considered "a bit of a fantasist".
The McCanns ended the investigator's contract in 2009, believing he had failed to deliver the work they were paying him for.
Dublin-born Mr Halligen, who had dual American and Irish nationality, was later extradited to the US where he admitted fraud charges over a previous contract.
He was jailed, but freed because of the time he had already served in custody and later returned to the UK.
In a TV interview he denied he had misused funds in his Madeline investigation and dismissed accusations of leading a lavish lifestyle.
Surrey Police said: "We were called to an address in Cobbett Hill Road, Normandy, Guildford, on Monday following a report of a man in his 50s having been taken unwell, who subsequently died.
"The death is being treated as unexplained and a file will be passed to the coroner's office in due course."
The McCanns did not comment, but it is understood they had had no association with him since terminating his contract.
Madeleine was nearly four when she disappeared from the family's rented holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on the Algarve coast in May 2007.

A very good point here, you call an ambulance if someone is ill not the police!

Since when are the police called when someone is "taken ill" ? #McCann

Unless the medics called them as suspected that it was a crime scene?

Re: The mysterious death of Kevin Halligen
Sounds like Oesophageal Varices that burst to me - it`s what Peter Cook died of. There`s always a lot of blood coming up from the oesophagus and death is pretty instant. Caused by liver disease/alcohol.

Not really out of the ordinary, the fil collapsed and died at his home and the police were called as a matter of routine I believe.

Re: The mysterious death of Kevin Halligen
If someone found an unresponsive person who was covered in blood it's quite logical they would call the police as well as an ambulance
As Mimi says it could be oesophageal varices that have caused this ,the amount of blood that is lost when one ruptures is dramatic to say the least
In another place some posters are definitely making this into something it isn't

I Spy with my little eye...?
I hadn't realised "The McCanns and The Conman" had been recycled for a Yankee Audience :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5123796/
No death notices anywhere for this chap that I can find... Mysterious man, obviously.
McCoincidental that his Oxford Old Bank alias was 'Richard Hall', don't you think? :
"David Harris, finance director of the luxury hotel in Oxford's High Street, said: "On Tuesday, the manager of the Old Bank contacted local police concerning this man called Kevin Halligen. He was known to us as Richard Hall. He had stayed at the hotel for several months with us."
(from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8378304.stm)
An odd surname, 'Halligen' - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halligen -
(I think he was originally 'Halligan')
- I wonder how many of these Facebook characters are real : https://www.facebook.com/public/Halligen-Kevin
Some comments under this story exposing it for the invented bullshit it is :
http://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2014/11/03/new-passport-photo-to-make-man-look-like-sexaul-predator-for-next-ten-years/
(looks like a cross between TB and Bill Roache)

Re: The mysterious death of Kevin Halligen
That is indeed a bizarre story about the passport photo. The Halligen namesake would have supplied it to the passport office himself yet this bit - "53-year-old Kevin Halligen, with an address at Drumcondra, expressed dismay upon seeing the photo, in which he looks like a child molester on day release" - makes it sound as if he hadn't seen it before receiving the passport.
I like the Richard Hall alias - his middle name and the first four letters of his surname of course.

Really, truly, absolutely...?
Ah Freedom, it's a spoof article - but a bit strange that they should use his name
(and passport details) as a base for it...
Not that his documentation is worth two cents :
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/local/halligen/documents.html
His wedding menu - of all things - is included on page 7 of 7 with this blurb :
"The menu for the wedding of Richard Halligen and Maria Dybczak designed by Margaret Cunningham of the Cunningham Group won an ADDY award from the American Advertising Federation. The Cunningham Group is an advertising and public relations company based in Montgomery, Ala. Halligen and Dybczak celebrated a wedding April 27, 2007, at the Evermay estate in Washington. At the time of the Evermay wedding, an elaborate hoax in which the minister was actually a professional actor, Halligen was still married to Jennifer Darvill. (Cunningham Group)"
He gets 'married' the week before The Missingness of Madeleine kicks off -
- yet another quasi-spook with impeccable timing...?

Now I'm embarrassed for not recognising it as a spoof article but it's so hard to tell the difference these days between them and others that are genuine.
