The Fund Accounts - year ending 31 March 2018

Post  Antonia on Fri 28 Dec 2018, 12:27 pm

The Accounts to 31 March 2018 are due by 31 Dec 2018 (3 days away) or a fine of £100 will apply which increases as the lateness increases.

Just checked online and surprise surprise no sign of the accounts yet.

the 2017 accounts were filed later than usual - 5 Feb 2018 per Companies House.  Normally the accounts are filed on the last possible day.

You have 9 months after the accounting year end in which to send in your accounts - quite a reasonable time it seems to me. But I suppose the McCanns are so busy searching that they just can't find the time to deal with boring bureaucratic requirements in a timely fashion.

Given the board of the Fund has financial and legal expertise (John Griffin - tax consultant, Edward Smethurst - solicitor) you would expect these board members would be concerned that the audited accounts are filed as soon as practical and not at the last moment.

We'll just have to contain our impatience as we always do.

Below an extract from the official madeline website copied and pasted today Dec 28, 2018

There are six directors of the Fund. They are:
• Brian Kennedy - Retired head teacher;
• Edward Smethurst - A Commercial lawyer;
• Jon Corner – Director of a media company;
• Michael Linett - Retired accountant
• Kate McCann - General Practitioner
• Gerry McCann - Consultant Cardiologist
(7) What is the money being spent on ?
The majority of the fund money has been and continues to be spent on investigative work to help find Madeleine. Additionally money continues to be spent on the wider 'Awareness Campaign' – reminding people that Madeleine is still missing and to remain vigilant. None of the directors have taken any money from the fund as remuneration.
Anyone who wishes further information with regards to the financial details of Madeleine's Fund and its professional advisors, please refer to the accounts filed at Companies House. Crown Way Maindy Cardiff CF14 3UZ
[

Now Michael Linnett (Linnett is the spelling in Companies House - the website spells his surname differently)resigned on 3 May 2017 and DIED over a year ago.
A new director John Griffin was appointed on 13 September 2017.

How much work would it take to update this important matter ie who are the directors? Isn't it disrespectful to Mr Linnett's family not to have corrected the directors list and not to have expressed sympathy for his family and to have mentioned his 10 years service on the Board?

Telling people if they want to know about the Fund Accounts to go to the Companies Office really takes the piss. The accounts should be on the website and it wouldn't cost anything to put the accounts there!

I signed up at Companies House to get an alert when anything is filed re the Fund.

Big excitement at home today - as got the alert that accounts to march 2018 received today Jan 8 and now being processed and will be available in 5 days.

All that info in the accounts will indeed take time to process....I don't think!

John Griffin, the multi millionaire and the founder of "Addison Lee"?

Re: The Fund Accounts - year ending 31 March 2018

Post  Antonia on Wed 09 Jan 2019, 6:00 pm

I have been studying the accounts all day (slight exaggeration!) and am struggling to find some new information to convey.

In the notes it states that £84,096 was received in the year as a donation out of post tax royalties from the book. I looked at the 2017 accounts and saw that we were told about this donation in those accounts, only under the heading Post Balance Sheet events.

May I now 'purport a theory' . Purporting theories is I understand OK with Dr Gerry McCann.

In 2017 and 2018 there was well over £200,000 in the bank - enough to hire a top investigator like Mark Williams Thomas to continue the search - so why donate the net book royalties? Also the Fund's investments which could be sold if necessary are worth over £500,000. The Fund was not in need of an urgent substantial donation to keep afloat.

My theory is that the 'donation' was keeping their spare money safe from 'discredited' detective Amaral when the McCanns finally are asked to cough up the legal costs for their long running cases against him which they have lost. I think the cases were taken in their names and not in the Fund's name and hence money in the Fund is untouchable.

Does any legal member know if the Fund money could be touched if it could be shown money was in effect laundered there to avoid legitimate legal costs?

Thanks ddl, it won't copy most of it but interesting little snippet and the way it is worded from the link above..

A company set up by Kate and Gerry McCann to fund the search for their daughter has had a boost in profits.

“Find Madeleine – Leaving No Stone Unturned” has more than £800,000 in assets, after making nearly £100,000 in the past year.

The article is the usual tripe.

And it says the book remains a best seller. I hardly think so now.

And it refers to losses in previous years. I think there was only one year in which there was a loss and it wasn't much. Could be wrong about that. Anyway why would there be losses when they aren't appointing top detectives any more?
