It's usually Monday, but because of a significant interview landed right on eve of Easter break it shunted everything back and split what would have been episode 9 into two episodes, what will now be 9 and 10. I'm thinking E9 will go out Friday (Australia time). #McCann

Seems a bit cynical to me. I've enjoyed the podcasts, but they were developed and produced with very little fanfare. This buildup to a blockbuster ending feels a bit cheap.

Maybe this late interview is with a Mr Bennett who will speak about his amazing research and for the FIRST time reveal the motive for the whole Smith family telling lies about the man they saw and provide concrete evidence to back up the motive.....?

Re: The Madeleine podcasts from 9 News Australia
I know that Mark has tried to get an interview with Mark Harrison who is working in Australia, I hope it's Harrison because I believe he can tell a lot of what kind of pressure it was from the UK establishment, what happened behind the scenes and what happened to him.
Was he forced to leave NPIA as the National Search Adviser?

Re: The Madeleine podcasts from 9 News Australia
There's nothing in there, I think, that would be new to most readers here. It might have made a few more casual listeners sit up in a few places.
Who in their right mind washes the carpet of a hire car?
I do hope that this isn't leading up to a massive anticlimax where it turns out that the DNA results are completely benign.

Re: The Madeleine podcasts from 9 News Australia
Another good podcast by Mark. My take on it (for what it's worth).....
Update on DNA, Mark contacted Dr Perlin to ask about the claimed DNA-17 analysis and he stated it was old technology and could not interpret the data as well as TrueAllele can (stated it does not have the computational power). Interestingly though Dr Perlin's thoughts were why would Op. Grange contact anyone else (like himself) as their latest attempt (DNA-17) was inconclusive.
On that we only have a report from the 'Sun' to say this was done.
Amaral was the star of the show and will also feature in the next episode (which is supposed to be the last). He discusses buried statements (by the UK), the lack of receipt of documentation (specifically the medical records and the McCann's financial records).
Goncalo (through an interpreter) also discussed the hire car and the boot being left open during day and night as reported by a neighbour who is a lawyer (credible witness) however this statement does not appear in the files. He states there were plenty of opportunities for the McCanns to have transported a body in the car or it could have been done by one of their friends / family Both Michael Wright and Alex Cameron were named drivers on the car hire, and both had complained of a strange smell coming from the boot (to the point where Alex Cameron took out the boot carpet and cleaned it).
Various Operation Grange interviews were played, each saying the parents were not involved and this was investigated by the Portuguese at the time so didn't need re-looked at.
Jim Gamble makes an appearance and basically backs up the Operation Grange remit and investigation. Asked why he thinks it was an abduction he replies "when the apartment was checked she (Maddie) wasn't there". Operation Grange is not a failure 'who's to say that now'? He also stated that it is different (the investigation) coming after the fact. Looking at all of the work done they (Operation Grange) are well equipped to judge the starting point (abduction)
Colin Sutton makes his episode appearance discussing how the Operation Grange remit is flawed and there is no conclusive evidence that the parents are in the clear.
Graham Witton (not sure if right name / spelling) ex Met Officer stated that there is pressure to keep Operation Grange going, the significant line of enquiry stance is 'not good enough' (need to be a bit more specific) and the only line of inquiry is a criminal act by a stranger.
Pat Brown had a small piece, she stated the case was 'dead in the water' due to the remit of Operation Grange being abduction when there is not one shred of evidence of an abduction.
Finally, back to Goncalo Amaral:- Not surprised by the FSS results or the lack of taking up the offer from Dr Perlin, he states that Operation Grange is there to close the case down and this will be done by placing the blame on a scapegoat and specifically states a German paedophile who is currently in jail (in Germany) will be that scapegoat (he would not supply the guys name when asked).

Re: The Madeleine podcasts from 9 News Australia
I agree there's not much new there for those in the know, as for the DNA there was always the chance it would be a non starter, it appears that neither the UK nor Portugal are that interested in getting to the truth. Dr Perlin was right, they can now claim to have used updated DNA analysis tools (which they got in 2014 even though at that time there were better systems to be had) and supposedly are none the wiser.unreorganised wrote:

What the series has done is highlighted the alternative 'story', one which actually has more facts and evidence than an abduction, to a wider audience, so that has to be a positive.

My only disagreement with Goncalo is that if Op Grange were going to pin this on someone it would have been done a long time ago. I do not believe this for one moment.

There seemed to be some implication that they were going to try pinning it on Hewlett, but he spoiled it by dying. Presumably the "perpetrator" needs to confess.

Re: The Madeleine podcasts from 9 News Australia
One bit of the podcast that I forgot to add (that's significant) Mark has been in contact with Martin Grimes through email and he (Martin) is not best pleased that his dogs have been called into question. He stated the dogs were correct, because DNA was found (in the car, behind the sofa etc.) then they did what they were trained to do. If the DNA analysis can't interpret whose DNA it is then you can't say the dogs failed (my interpretation of what was said).

Mark, has anyone suggested to Dr. Perlin to ask the PJ for the DNA info since it is their investigation and they still have it reopened, I believe.
