I knew that as soon as I woke up to a cup of coffee made by my daughter that I was going to be subjected to something awful...

And there it was, Gerry McCann sneering away that everyone has lost a child at some point...WTF???

It's a far cry from losing sight of your child in a supermarket for 20 seconds to going out, night after night with your friends and leaving your toddlers in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country.

Then you saw the genuine people, Coral Jones, and the family whose little boy disappeared from the garden 40 years ago, and that was when you saw true grief

Who was the mother and sister of the boy who disappeared 40 years ago..?

I saw briefly the end of that but didn't catch the names?

Sorry Andrew I can't recall, was too busy having a rage fest at Gerry..one thing is for certain though, they both looked heartbroken and destroyed, it even affected the presenters...worlds apart from the McCanns "we did nothing wrong" mantra

Clearly they didn't have a fund, a massive PR team and media storm, nor did they have a spokesperson and endorsements from movie stars Sad

Yes agreed - they looked absolutely distraught and was heartbreaking just the end bit that I saw.

Did anyone else see it and caught the names...?

In 1976 Sandy Davidson vanished from his grandparents' garden in Irvine in Scotland. It was a month before his fourth birthday and he has been missing ever since.
Sandy's mother Margaret and sister Donna have been looking for answers for nearly 40 years and they joined us on the sofa to talk about why they are backing the #GMBSearch campaign.

I can remember everything [from that day].

This is quite an interesting read. Seems that this family have spoken to the McCanns and Kerry Needham..notably although the circumstances in terms of ages etc is very similar, no one has given a thought about Sandy and his family are none too pleased

My memories of the 1970s are normally much better than those of last week but I have never heard of this case. I don't think that it can have received any publicity nationally.

Thanks Susible and Admin. Never heard of that case before.

Just snipped this from this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourtreehill

Missing toddler[edit]
On 23 April 1976, the case of Sandy Davidson hit the headlines in Scotland as he has been one of the many children to go missing in Scotland. He was in his garden with his little sister and the gate flew open as his dog ran out. Sandy ran out trying to catch him and from that day on nobody has seen him since. Some people believe that he ran down to the river, 5 minutes away and followed the dog in, some say he was taken but the most believed story is that there was a man delivering leaflets around for a couple of days and he could have opened the gate and taken Sandy. Sandy's mother and father believe that it was a lonely man wanting a son. His sister says that all she can remember was Sandy motioning for her to go to but she refused and went into the house to tell her Grandparents who were looking after her at the time. Lorriane Kelly did an episode on it but nobody phoned in with information

I remember 1976 very well..it was one of the hottest on record, and at that time I lived in Prestwick just about 8 miles from Bourtreehill. I know that we never heard anything on the news and there was no concern from parents about letting children out to play as normal. So very sad, maybe if this case had had a fraction of the media exposure the McCanns had, the case could have been solved. And yes, I know we live in different times now, but clearly there was very little publicity at the time and that probably sums it up, kid from a council estate goes missing..no one cares maybe I'm being harsh but when I think about so many other cases from decades ago that I do remember yet this one, in my own backyard, I'd never heard of until today..

I was living in Ayr at the time and remember it because I had a friend who lived in the next street to Sandy's Gran and Grampa they were out helping to look and were really upset about it.

Wow I'm currently in Ayr! It's a small world indeed. I also lived in Broomlands for a while in the mid 90's, but as I was only 8 when Sandy disappeared, I certainly didn't know anything about it and I have no recollection of the event, though I certainly remember other missing people cases from that time, so there can't have been that much publicity

Susible am just up the coast a bit from you. I recall that the only publicity at the time was very local within the area. I was at secondary school at the time would never have known if my friend hadn't told me. Don't remember anything on tv or national papers.
