Can't see anything in there about dogs being "incredibly unreliable". Mad Police Scotland have stopped using this particular team, but that seems to be more financial or political than anything else.

I was watching 'Countryfile' last night and conservation sniffer dogs are now trained and in training.

By law new developments must remove newts before work can proceed so we saw Kim the newt dog, still in training, track down a newt in a jar hidden in a woodpile.

Wind Turbines are having a detrimental effect on bat colonies and to assess the damage conservationists need to monitor bat deaths.  The average little bat body in a field  just looks like another dead leaf to the human eye so along comes bat dog Ned.

They were both Springer Spaniels.

Their handler said that sniffer dogs can be trained to detect any specific scent and I was fascinated by this use of them in conservation.  The possibilities seem endless to me.

I agree with everyone over the years who've said G and K are afraid of the dogs.  These special dogs know what their target is and the Martin Grime video brought tears to my eyes the first time i saw it. They're trained, they want to work and to please.  Their happiest reward? A tennis ball and playtime.
