As I'm firmly in the Grange is not a whitewash camp, I would far rather wait until the investigation was concluded before jumping in, all guns blazing, which could ultimately have a disastrous effect on the investigation and hopes of a fair trial imo

I think you're prejudging the outcome a bit before we know it but I do understand what you're saying. The point is that proper journalists and real journalism is under threat and Sonia should be applauded for trying to tell a story with genuine public interest rather than criticisedo because we fear how the McCann media machine will spin it. Down that road lies the official ministry of truth and imprisonment for the non violent "extremists" (like us) that dissent from the official line.

Yes, agreed, Sonia deserves credit for reporting on the story. It's clear that the whole notion of independent journalists, working without an agenda, needs to be fostered very quickly. In that sense SP should be applauded.

that's true Embarassed I don't believe Grange is a whitewash either. It wouldn't still be going on if it was.

I know that it's very easy to get angry, especially the way the McCanns have treated everyone else and it is tempting to say that they should have a taste of their own medicine (no pun intended) but ultimately I believe that patience and good police work will solve this case and I would hate anything to jeapordise that, regardless of the good intention behind it.

Why are you accusing Sonia of "jumping in with all guns blazing"? All we know is that she doorstepped Kate. She's done nothing with it except admit that it happened

I'm not accusing her of anything...I'm giving my opinion that I think what she did was not the best way to go about it and I doubt she will have got anything useful from the exercise, but may have potentially re-opened the can of worms that the McCanns claim to be living in fear, along with their children, by attacks from so-called "internet nutters" which in turn does our cause no good whatsoever imo

Just to be clear I applaud the courage that Sonia (and others) have shown in the face of much personal criticism and even threats to their personal safety and have no truck with the gagging of the press in any way. However my concern is for the way this will be portrayed by those who would have the disbelieving camp dressed up in black hats and wielding pitchforks.
According to Isabel Duarte 90% of the population disbelieves the parents anyway so quite what shoving a microphone under Kate`s nose will have achieved is debatable.
If Sonia`s docu sees the light of day we will find out if it had a bearing but it isn't guaranteed that it will be shown. You can bet your bottom dollar that reports of her actions will be shown in a very unfavourable light and it is the damage to that credibility that means she will perhaps be misunderstood.
Having said that, what`s done is done and I am sure Sonia took all of those thing into consideration. I wish her success no matter what.

That was the first thing I thought about.  I've had a feeling for a long time that the newspapers have been printing stories about the McCanns that are in their favour so as not to jeopardise any future court case with negativity which could play into the McCanns' hands.

I have to say I think on similar lines DFM, although you would think Sonia has taken all the necessary advice. Personally I am slightly concerned for her safety.

The safety of the twins comes to mind again and texts like "all killed in a car crash" and "pushing a button" and all re-united again [which is IMO one of the biggest give-aways that Madeleine is dead and they know it].

I broadly agree Andy. In reality actions like this, misguided or not, are borne of (I think justified) frustration at the apparently complete inaction of the entire machinery of state in the face of what appears to be blindingly obvious. It's hardly surprising really.

To me, she doesn't seem to be the sort of person that takes advice.  I can't see what doorstepping KM would achieve, KM would not answer any questions if she didn't agree to doing an interview with SP, the only thing I can see happen is that the McCanns accuse SP of harassment.

She should have waited until the inquest into Brenda's death to see what came out i.e. whether the McCanns were involved in Brunt's doorstepping and if they were also involved in the deadly dossier, that's if those questions came up in the inquest.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, Sonia's doorstepping of Kate has achieved. However, I do not accept that doorstepping Kate is comparable with the attack by Sky News on Brenda Leyland, in which they alleged that she "trolled" the McCanns (a highly inflammatory term) and was being investigated by the police, and repeated this claim throughout the entire day on rolling news.
Kate has voluntarily made herself a public figure. She has been a campaigner for donations to a (private) fund named after her daughter, and she has voluntarily taken on the role of ambassador to a missing persons charity. On this basis it seems to me that she publicly "stands for" certain issues and is entitled to be questioned about them if there appear to be irregularities concerning them. It appears that Sonia has tried to obtain an interview with Kate through the usual channels and has not been successful, so no doubt she feels it is legitimate for her to try to get answers more directly. This is something politicians and other public figures have to deal with all the time.

Absolutely. As Sonia herself said it wouldn't have been necessary had the MSM done their job. I just feel very uneasy at the way she's being slated for doing proper journalism, when almost without exception, her critics here have complained about the way the MSM have handled the McCann case in the past.

My main issue is that I would hate for anything to jeopardise any future court proceedings for the sake of a journalistic scoop. I am not slating Sonia, just saying that doorstepping Kate McCann is not the way I would go, to attempt to get the truth, as her attempt to interview the McCanns is likely to be a futile exercise and could backfire spectacularly imo

So long as you're OK with being described as "a McCann sceptic" then I can't see a problem really.

This doorstepping issue is one of those things where I can quite easily sympathise with a wide range of differing opinions. However my own favoured approach in life is to shake the tree now and again to see what falls out.

Oh no, I only went shopping for four hours and all this happens, darn!
I wouldn't have went to their door personally, but in saying that, if the mcs had nothing to do with Madeleine's disappearance and had nothing to do with any dossier or doorstepping of BL, then the mcs should have no problem chatting to SP to get the truth out regarding Madeleine or/and Brenda imo

ETA if MB can do it to BL with live TV cameras and sky show it all day, why should SP and the mcs be any different? Why are the mcs a no go area? They should actually be wanting to be heard by anyone who will listen. IMO

Hardly doorstepping to request an interview?  Seems the first step  to take in fact.

Rumours and exaggeration?

Nor can I - deservedly so in my opinion.
