I'll hazard a guess that this was not due to natural causes.

There's unlikely to be too many people upset at this news.

http://globalnews.ca/news/3195801/douglas-garland-triple-murder-trial-monday-second-week/

Snipped:

An expert cadaver dog was the focus of the sixth day of testimony as Douglas Garland‘s triple-murder trial entered its second week.

Garland, 56, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of five-year-old Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents, Alvin and Kathy Liknes.

Nathan, Alvin and Kathy were last seen alive June 29, 2014.

Sully, a 10-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever, was taken to the Garland property on multiple occasions to pinpoint areas of interest to police officers. The dog used his sense of smell, considered to be 40 times that of humans.

Court heard he was first taken to the farm on July 5, 2014—six days after Nathan and the Liknes’ disappeared.

His handlers testified his behaviours indicated human remains in three spots on the farm.

Sally sat to indicate one discovery on the southwest corner near the south fire pit.

“Immediately he showed an immense amount of interest around that pile in that corner,” Sully’s handler Const. Darcy Williams said.

When the dog went to the area near the burn barrel and wood chipper, Williams said he “sat facing the burn barrel, beside the barrel.”

The dog put his nose to the ground and walked back and forth “frantically” at the third location—between the green house and one of the outbuildings.

“I’d never seen anything like this from him before,” Williams said.

There are a couple of posts about this one on the previous page.

An odd case indeed - it isn't yet known how she died so he was only charged with hiding the body.

Bizarre indeed. There have been similar cases where people have tried (and failed) to claim a payout on a dodgy ticket so I don't know how this one was allowed.

Here is one who didn't get away with it.

A coronial investigation has since overturned the police ruling it was suicide
With no new information, the family is pleading for answers from the community

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4244502/UK-woman-faces-trial-burial-husband-Portugal.html

A British woman has been arrested for burying her dead husband in her garden in Portugal after telling her children he was dead on Facebook.
Piano teacher Louise Khan, from Lochgelly, Fife, was arrested after the remains of Alyn Pennycook were found earlier this month on the remote farm where they lived near Guarda in Portugal.
Mr Pennycook, a 59-year-old from Scotland, is believed to have died of cancer.
His daughter has claimed that Miss Khan, 46, broke the news to her on Facebook with a 'quick message' saying: 'Oh yes, your father died...'

Another decent sentence thank goodness.  This is the guy who hid a child in a hole in the wall, behind his fridge. Wicked, evil man.

Probably doesn't need a thread, but don't know where to put it.

Quoting my own post just to add this bit from the BBC report. The whole thing re police is absolutely shocking, these are children, the most vulnerable of society. I am so angry.

He also groomed and sexually assaulted another vulnerable under-age girl in the 1990s, giving her alcohol and cigarettes.
She told her mother what happened but when police investigated, Dunn got witnesses to lie and the victim was told her complaint was not going any further.

I was reading about this one the other week. A bit more on the story has been released:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4274514/MoD-officials-arrested-Gibraltar-Airport-stand-off.html

Senior British MoD officials 'were trying to protect serviceman accused of child porn offences', prompting astonishing runway standoff with RAF plane in Gibraltar, police claim
Three officials have been arrested on suspicion of hindering an investigation
Hundreds of people were stranded for nearly two hours during the stand-off
Sources said police were denied entry to the MoD barracks on the Rock
It is not clear where the serviceman is, but he is thought to be in Gibraltar

Probably not though.

http://portugalresident.com/aljezur-bones-%E2%80%9Ca-woman%E2%80%9D-says-pj-as-forensics-now-probe-age

The mysterious bones discovered in a remote site near a ruined farm in the Aljezur hillside recently have been recovered by judicial police forensic experts and are now being tested for their age.

As a spokesman explained: “They could be six months old, six years or even 60. We don’t have the answers yet”.

All police appear to be sure of this far is that the bones belong to a woman.

As to any missing women in the area, our PJ source said this is not yet a matter under investigation.

“First we have to discover whether these are recent bones”, he explained. “Once we have that information, investigation into missing people may then go ahead”.

The bones were discovered at an abandoned farmstead by a man herding sheep who communicated his discovery to Aljezur’s archeological association, undertaking excavations at a site “around a kilometre” away (click here).
