The funeral took place today on the anniversary of his birth.
It seems a bit odd that he will be buried at a church after a humanist funeral.

Can't believe that nobody has posted this one yet.

I'm actually genuinely a bit cut up about this, which doesn't happen too often. If his media persona was accurate then he was a true individual. If not, then he had certainly worked out how to fake sincerity, as the joke goes.

I saw that earlier but I'm afraid that I've never heard of him and didn't know if anyone else would have either.
How tragic, it appears to be suicide.

I thought that nothing would have got past you!
He was a real man's man, and a bit of a throwback. His book Kitchen Confidential contained so much truth it was absolutely frightening. For anybody who has ever worked in the trade, it was like somebody had read your thoughts and quoted them back to you.

Understandable criticism but I have to admit that, until a family member of mine committed suicide, I can remember thinking that it was a selfish act.

Not a nice man in real life either. Art imitating life.

Re: Celebrity deaths
Do you mean his real-life murder conviction?
There's been some heated debate about this on Facebook and I asked the question can a murderer ever be forgiven? In some cases I say definitely no and, despite my aversion to capital punishment, there are a few whom I would cheerfully dispatch myself.
I don't put Leslie Grantham in that category. If any of us had someone like him in our family, would we think he should serve his time and then be able to make a fresh start?

Re: Celebrity deaths
He had a loaded gun which he used on a taxi driver although he claims he didn't know it was loaded and it went off in a struggle. I doubt the driver's family saw his ten years in prison as a fair swap for the life of their loved one.
I prefer to look on it this way Freedom. If one of us had had a lived one murdered in this way, would we ever forgive?
He was sacked from EE for his involvement in this incident.
Jane had stood by him in 2004 when he was caught exposing himself online to a woman who turned out to be an undercover reporter. He was doing panto at the time, and was in his dressing room, allegedly wearing his Captain Hook outfit.

Re: Celebrity deaths
The murder conviction was nothing to do with his sacking from EastEnders; that was known about when he joined.
He was sacked because of the video incident. The woman was not an undercover reporter. This was a case of consenting adults which went on for several months until she decided she could make money by selling her story.
Had he not been using the camera in his BBC dressing room and verbally slagging off other members of the cast, he probably wouldn't have been sacked.
I really don't know how I would feel if a friend or relative was killed. In some circumstances maybe I could forgive, like a drunk driver who was appalled at what they'd done, but certainly not a sadistic torturer.
I wasn't a fan of Leslie Grantham by any means. I found it very unacceptable and tasteless that he appeared in other programmes as a murderer, he really should not have chosen such roles.

Re: Celebrity deaths
Yes freedom my post is a bit confusing. I was referring to him being sacked for the incident regarding the indecent exposure, not the murder which of course, happened long before he was ever in Easties.
If he was behaving in such a manner for several months then he is guilty of gross stupidity by filming himself or however it was done. These things always end in tears.

Re: Celebrity deaths
I see what you mean now, sorry. The "sacked for this incident" referred to the subsequent paragraph and not what went before.
P.S. Just thinking that, if he'd committed that crime in the U K just a year or two earlier, he would most likely have got the death penalty.

I'd never heard of her but that article isn't really beating around the bush regarding cause of death.
