#McCann They've filed their appeal . On and on rolls the McCircus. If Amaral needs more dosh to fight them then my purse is open.

Oh no if true - but it was near impossible to believe that the McCanns would give up their campaign.

Has this come from what Joanna posted up yest?

It looked official but was in Portuguese so couldn't understand it nor could google translate.

Yes, that's what I saw yest. As well as a link to some official looking docs.

Acórdão do Tribunal da Relação de Lisboa translates to Judgment of the Court of Appeal of Lisbon so it looks like its just the appeal court judgement that we all know about

I'm trying to find something to back up Ann-Kristine's tweet that they have filed the appeal.

Yes, I did say it was the 14th April Judgement, I don't think this is what Ann-Kristine is referring to, she has I think heard it has been filed.  If anyone is on twitter perhaps they could ask her?

It was always expected that they would appeal. Probably advised not to but they had to.

Be good to see an official source on it though instead of hearsay.

I'm in two minds about this: either the McCanns are incredibly dense and would rather destroy themselves than admit defeat or it's a delaying tactic to prevent Mr Amaral starting proceedings against them.

I'm veering towards the dense/self destruction option.

I would have thought that the sensible option would be accept defeat but take out a super-injunction preventing publication of the book, or excerpts of the book, in the UK ostensibly to protect the twins then use every delaying tactic possible against Mr Amaral should he decide to sue.

Are they appealing to The Supreme Court against the decision of an Appeal Court? Is that how it works in Portugal?
I'm just trying to get it clear in my head.

There's the costs though. And not just their latest failed attempt use the Portuguese civil justice system to crush Snr Amaral. If I remember correctly they also have the costs from the first series of trials to get the book banned that were held over pending the outcome of the latest case. So that's two lots of serious costs they have to find. Spending the extra on the supreme court on the off chance that you might win is probably good business sense

And not to forget...if its true.....that the appeal hs to be on a point of law and not about the outcome itself.....ie has the process been flawed thats led to it?

Can't see that cost will be a problem, just as long as they don't need to dip into their own pockets.
