Re: Tabloid Rags: Various inane stories
This part of the Appeal Court summing up will have put a dampener on them sitting on anybody's sofa!
And because from the proved matter results that – apart from it being about facts that have been profusely published in the inquiry and even publicised through an initiative of the Republic’s Prosecutor General’s Office – it was the subjects of the appeal themselves [Kate and Gerry McCann] who, benefiting from an easy access, multiplied themselves in interviews and interventions in national and international media, one must conclude that it was them who, voluntarily, limited their rights to reservation and to the intimacy of private life.
By proceeding in this manner, they opened the way for anyone to equally express an opinion about the case, contradicting their thesis – without losing their right to exercise a legitimate, and constitutionally consecrated, right to an opinion and a freedom of expression of thought.

I can see the strategy, if in fact, this is what will happen. If they were to take the McCanns to court on the evidence they'd collected alone, then a good defense lawyer would try to demolish the case based on the argument that there could have been so many other factors at play, including all the potential leads that were never followed up, all of the possibilities of what could have happened to Madeleine...
That argument is considerably weakened by all of the time and effort spent by OG, who can truthfully testify that they have followed up every lead possible and conducted every search possible, and the only logical conclusion they could draw is that something happened to Madeleine to cause her death and the parents simulated an abduction to cover it up.
Of course you can't define an infinite number, which is what the defense would naturally argue - they haven't considered every single possibility - but the defense's argument would be weakened to the point of being nonsensical and ridiculous in the face of the evidence - both circumstantial and real - against the McCanns.

They can't take back what they've said in the past... but if it turns out they're about to be asked to "assist with inquiries"... they're not going to say anything at all now that can be used against them.. especially if they go on tv with their "abducted Madeleine" story and OG and the PJ have enough evidence to prove that they made the whole thing up.
You can bet whatever old Portuguese escudos you have hiding at the back of a drawer that that's the nub of the matter. Least said soonest mended. Since when did the Macs ever allow awkward or probing questions from anyone never mind their pet apologist, Ms Kelly?

The parents of Madeleine McCann were accused of cancelling an appearance on the ITV morning show
Kate and Gerry McCann have not pulled out of Lorraine as they were never booked
The parents of Madeleine McCann have been accused of cancelling an appearance on the Lorraine show, where they were allegedly set to launch a fresh appeal on the ninth anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.
However, Kate and Gerry McCann were never due to appear on the ITV morning show, it has been confirmed.
A spokesperson for ITV told Mirror Celebs: "The McCanns have never been booked or confirmed to come and appear on Lorraine next Tuesday."
It was reported that Kate and Gerry were going to talk on the Lorraine show, nine years after their daughter disappeared from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal in May 2007, according to the Daily Star.

It comes after the couple lost a £360,000 libel battle with ex-Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral.

“They would love to make a new appeal, but are away that any journalist would want to inquire about Mr Amaral’s victory,” they told the newspaper.
“They’re seething over the ruling. That’s the last thing they want to discuss.”
Kate and Gerry McCann already face fresh heartache after the cop who led the bungled hunt for their missing daughter said he plans to sue them.
Amaral is set to demand compensation from Gerry and Kate McCann after he won a libel court case appeal.
The 56-year-old claims the couple cost him money and harmed his reputation during the long-running legal battle .
Portuguese legal sources say the compensation bill could run into the “hundreds of thousands of Euros”.
Julian Hamilton/Daily Mirror Goncalo Amaral
Amaral was told pay the McCanns £360,000 after penning a book claiming they were responsible for Madeleine’s death.
The couple, from Rothley, Leics, vowed to spend “every penny” of the cash on the hunt for their missing daughter.
But those plans were put on hold last May when Amaral, the officer tasked with finding Madeleine, lodged an appeal.
They are taking the case to Portugal’s Supreme Court - which will have the final say on whether Amaral should pay damages.

Re: Tabloid Rags: Various inane stories
It's all getting very childish, isn't it?
"We didn't cancel because we weren't going anyway"
"Well, you weren't invited"
Next we'll have, "Well, we wouldn't have gone even if you had invited us"
So we are mere hours away from a friend of the McCanns saying that they wouldn't be appearing because Lorraine smells and an ITV spokesman retaliating that it's really Gerry that smells.

The backlash has started since Gerry got interviewed on the BBC about Hacked Off. He looked far from comfortable and they've realised public opinion is not going their way, especially after the court verdict. Just my opnion.

I would have loved to have seen them with Lorraine, though. Given how reviled they are now, and how few people believe them, it would have been hilarious seeing them squirming on the sofa. Surely even Lorraine knows that the story is a pile of manure. She must do. Perhaps even Lorraine just couldn't go through the charade.
And the idea of yet another age-progressed photo being produced when the gruesome twosome could barely suppress their smirks at the launch of the last one is just too hideous to contemplate, imo. Also a great insult to their daughter.

Bampots wrote:C12,I believe that there are major ructions going on behind the scenes. The events of the last few weeks have been seismic in so many ways. From Katie Hopkins onwards each week seems to devalue the stock of TeaMcCan,it's only in the last few days that they have fought back with anything one could call success. The speed with which they have managed to turn Goncalos success in court from one of elation with much backslapping to confusion and pesimisim has truly been a marvel to watch. Scotland Yard have said very little but they have still managed to instill the possible result in people's minds a tale of three desperate burgalrs who accidentally disturbed Maddie, caused her demise/abduction,cleaned up a blood spill with a forensic attention to detail (while one of them tried to focus their attention through a haze of drugs whilst dreaming of fast cars!)then hide as Gerry had a pee, escape en mass with child/dead body and finally split up while one wandered through town with a child looking ,like Gerry. Oh and for all of the effort forgot to take any money or anything of value!! Phew wtf......we really get ourselves in a tizzy sometimes over these things,if that is what they decide to archive this with they really will be ridiculed. The cream of Britains police really have no notion of the damage they inflict on themselves and their profession but I suppose Hillsborough shines like a beacon the world over they have no shame!
As for Kate and Gerry......they have opened the box....there is no shutting the lid for them!
Bravo!

Detective who covered Soham slammed Portuguese police
Bampots wrote:Games.....games and more games....anyone else chilled by its calculated manipulation the arrogance of the pink one coupled with a Gamble of evil corrupt secret service mind games could be the order of the day!?
It's a disgrace...
Both of them are a total disgrace. Imagine how much more dirt must lie behind this dung-pile? The pink one is often first on the scene when there's a dodgy death (think Dando,) Did he cover the Soham murders I wonder?
Interesting that the detective who lead the Soham enquiry gave a damning verdict on the Portuguese investigation into Madeleine's disappearance. Wonder how he is feeling now with the latest news that Detective Amaral has won his appeal and anyone with half a brain cell doesn't believe the McCanns? Seething, perhaps?
It is my considered opinion and indeed the opinion of others who have looked into the Soham case that the conviction of Ian Huntley is unsound and represents a miscarriage of justice. Look at the dog evidence for a start.
(deleted no need for personal comments)
Snipped from the link below:
THE detective who led the Soham murder inquiry has given a damning verdict on the Portuguese investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance.
Retired Det Chief Supt Chris Stevenson, who caught double-murderer Ian Huntley after school pals Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman vanished in 2002, travelled to Praia da Luz, where Maddie went missing on May 3.
Along with a team of crime experts, Mr Stevenson carried out a three day review of the Portuguese inquiry for a TV documentary in which he claims the force was "too slow" to act after she disappeared.
He said: "I don't think they immediately realised what they were dealing with."
Mr Stevenson, 58, was joined in Praia da Luz by Matt Tapp, a media expert who also worked on the Soham murder inquiry, David Barclay, a forensic analyst, Gary Lig, a search expert, and David Canter, a criminal profiler.

My dear Mr Stevenson, I think you will find that the Psardine-munching Portuguese police had a pretty good idea about what they were dealing with.....along with the esteemed 'experts' whose names are helpfully included in the article.
What a bunch of idiots.
This article, which appeared in October 2007 in the Cambridge News is highly instructive, imo. Particularly in the light of the latest news that Detective Amaral has won his appeal.
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.......

Oops! Back to the bungling burglars.....I can see them in my mind's eye with tights over their heads and swag-bags..
But, hang on, according to the McCanns - or was it their relatives - nothing of value was stolen from the apartment.

Madeleine McCann’s mother has returned to the holiday spot where her daughter vanished nine years ago.
Kate made a secret visit to Praia da Luz in Portugal, where she says she feels closest to Madeleine, who went missing in May 2007 aged three.
The former GP wandered the streets “looking for answers”. She believes her daughter is still in the country.
She and her family, from Rothley, Leics, face the ninth anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance on Tuesday.
A friend said: “Kate went back to Praia da Luz last month. She didn’t make a big fuss but just went quietly.
She likes to stroll along the beach and relive the happier memories of her and Madeleine together.”
In an interview in February Kate, 48, said: “I’ve always said Praia da Luz is the place where I feel closest to her.
"I go back a couple of times a year. I still walk those streets, I guess to try to look for answers.”
Kate believes she could still be alive, but fears “no one will recognise my Madeleine any more” and is considering having new age-progression images created of her.
It is not known if her husband, heart doctor Gerry, 47, and their 11-year-old twins Sean and Amelie, accompanied Kate on her latest pilgrimage.
Family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry will never give up searching for their daughter.”

This sounds very much like a regurgitated article with just Kate's age and the number of years since 2007 updated.
I doubt very much that Kate was there in the last few weeks.
