It's a very strange situation to be in. Perhaps Reeva's parents believed him at first that it was a terrible accident so they took his money as a sort of "compensation". I wonder how they're living now if he's saying he hasn't got any money to fight a court case. Oh boo hoo, he'll just have to make do with a state attorney like all the poor people have to in SA.

They must be surviving somehow.

South African prosecutors have started an appeal hearing on whether athlete Oscar Pistorius should be convicted of murder instead of culpable homicide.

The Paralympian was released from prison last month after serving one year of his five-year term for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Pistorius, 28, shot her through a locked bathroom door in 2013 but insists he thought she was an intruder.

He could be sent back to jail if appeal judges overturn the original verdict.

Pistorius is currently under house arrest, and is not attending the hearing in Bloemfontein.

South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal has begun considering whether Oscar Pistorius should have his conviction for shooting his girlfriend changed from manslaughter to murder.

The Olympic and Paralympic athlete was released from prison into house arrest last month after serving one year of his five year term for killing Reeva Steenkamp.
 
If the appeal court judges overturn the original verdict, Pistorius, who will not be attending the hearing, could be sent back to jail for 15 years.
Pistorius denied deliberately killing his girlfriend during his six-month trial saying he mistook her for an intruder at his home.

Found Guilty of Murder


Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been found guilty of murder after a South African appeals court overturned an earlier manslaughter verdict.
He killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013 after shooting her four times through a locked toilet door.
He is currently under house arrest after spending one year of his original five-year sentence in jail.
Pistorius will now have to return to court to be re-sentenced, for murder.

It was earlier incorrectly reported that the court had ruled the manslaughter verdict would remain.

South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal ruled that the lower court did not correctly apply the rule of dolus eventualis - whether Pistorius knew that a death would be a likely result of his actions.
Reading the ruling reached by a panel of judges, Justice Lorimer Leach said that having armed himself with a high-calibre weapon, Pistorius must have foreseen that whoever was behind the door might die.
Pistorius' lawyer argued that he believed that there was an intruder in the house but the judge said that the identity of the person behind the door was irrelevant.

Double wow!!!

What good news for a change. There is justice after all.

Really didn't see this one coming...i always thought that emptying a clip through a closed door of an occupied bathroom was murder anyday of the week and that's before you consider the earlier arguments and his pathological jealousy,poor Reeva! Agree with the thoughs on justice Costello....
