Because there is no Facebook profile attached to the campaign, it will not appear in our Public Search Directory. Please keep in mind that the biggest factor in having a successful campaign is sharing the link directly with your friends, family and other networks, and being in the Public Search Directory doesn't necessarily attract any further attention to the campaign.

Bluebell I don't know if that is correct as Bing and others have the site if you search go fund me goncalo amaral the link comes up top.  Unless google works differently but I wouldn't  think so.  Probably wrong though

Thanks Admin, but my grouse is that if one goes on the gofundme site itself and tries to search for GA's site nothing comes up.   I don't think this is connected to the google fiasco.

As Resistor advised I sent an email to gofundme (their answer I c/p'd above) and they say that unless there is a specific Facebook profile of the person who started the gofundme site it will not be shown on their search engine.

I am aware pjga took over from Leanne some time ago, and maybe this is why.

I just thought pjga should be aware that's all.  As I don't speak Portuguese though my email to explain probably won't make sense!

Ah, I see, I misunderstood and see what you are saying now.  Not so good if you can't even find the fund when on their site, well done for letting them know.

What great news. Well done to everyone who donated and sent messages of support. It really is worth every red cent to be able to comment without censure. A bit like throwing off the shackles in a way. I hope reaching this milestone is just the first bit of good news and this year will see us celebrating not only a victory for an honest and decent man, but the end of the farce that has been perpetrated for over 8 years.

Has SOMEONE (Google?) added data to the GoFundMe page to prevent successful searches for Gonçalo Amaral FUND page?
Upon checking the view source page there is added data that does not show in a random Gofundme page as can be seen in the  graphic. ''

Could this be to prevent people searching for the fund on Google and if so...WHY??

I think it's obvious WHY they are trying to sabotage Goncalo's fund.

They must be terrified of what the Judges will say tomorrow,

Whatever the cause, it seems important that the actual web address is regularly displayed in a prominent position on this site and places like Twitter, so that those who wish to contribute are free to do so.

It's been right at the top of each page for last few months froggy, and it is clickable to go straight to the website.  It's on the scrolling banner right at the top all coloured to see it easily! Along with how the fund is doing and a running total.

Online intrigue as McCanns close Twitter page and Amaral’s fund ‘goes missing’

Another eventful week online has seen the parents of Madeleine McCann shut down the Twitter account set up to find their daughter due to an “avalanche of offensive commentaries” from supporters of the family of Ben Needham - the toddler who went missing from the Greek island of Kos in 1991.


The toxic mail was prompted by the findmadeleine feed’s “blocking” of an account supporting the hunt for Ben after Ben’s mother publicly questioned the £10.1 million (€13.6 million) of taxpayer’s money ploughed into the ongoing police hunt for Madeleine, when only €800,000 has been spent over many more years looking for her son. But as the wrangle plays out in British and Portuguese press, another glitch has come to the surface.

Internet meddlers have “blocked” the gofundme page raising money to help beleaguered former detective Gonçalo Amaral fight the civil case taken out against him by the McCanns. Whereas the page could previously be found by Google in a simple internet search, this week it suddenly became untraceable. Bizarrely, search engine Bing still leads users to it - which has led to the online question: “Has Google prevented the search for Gonçalo Amaral Go Fund Me page… and if so why?”


The truth is that the page still exists and has now raised over €68,000. In the British press this week, Jerry Lawton of the Daily Star incorrectly stated that “a new libel case” begins tomorrow in Lisbon that could see appeal judges “strip the couple of £357,000 (just under €500,000), which they “hope to use” to find Madeleine. The case does not begin tomorrow. A legal source has told us the appeal is in the process of being considered and there is no indication for the time being when judges will reach a decision.

But what the Gofundme appeal online has ensured, said the source, is that Gonçalo Amaral is in a position to continue his legal fight, which he has repeatedly said centres on his own right to freedom of expression.

Andrew any chance you could find out as you are always spot on with your links, news etc. I honestly thought the hearing was tomorrow especially with all the distractions over the last couple of days.

Hi de Ho posted across the way today that the date is wrong. What we took to be 7 Oct was actually 10 July when the appeal was filed. So a mix up in the meaning of 7/10/07.She said no actual date for conclusions.
