A friend claims Kate and Gerry McCann have been offered huge bids for an exclusive interview

So who was this supposed "friend"?

And does this not now tell everyone (in light of their furious denials) that anyone quoted as an anonymous "friend" of the fragrant couple (be it helpful to them or not) cannot be considered reliable in the least? (we already knew that, but this now means the McCanns themselves can never again fall back on "a friend" to confirm or deny anything on their behalf, or even provide "helpful" information to the press)

Do you think they have any 'friends'....

I suspect they have very few indeed, if any.... they lie the whole time...have not integrity.. they are responsible, imo, for their daughter's death....they will carry on being complete idiots,,,they really are....scary...and they know it.

MCCANN COURT BATTLE Who is Goncalo Amaral? Ex-Madeleine McCann cop whose claimed Gerry and Kate faked her abduction
Amaral claimed Maddie had died in the McCann's holiday flat and her parents faked her abduction to cover up the tragedy

BY HANNAH CROUCH 16th February 2017, 11:39 pm

THE PARENTS of Maddie McCann lost their court appeal to silence an ex-cop who claims they covered up their daughter’s death.

Portuguese Supreme Court judges agreed with a lower court’s decision last April to reverse Kate and Gerry McCann’s 2015 libel win against Goncalo Amaral.

Goncarlo Amaral claimed Kate and Gerry McCann faked the abduction of their daughter
Following his appeal win, Amaral was reportedly seeking a British publisher as he completed the closing chapters of a second book about the little girl’s disappearance.

Maddie’s parents faced fresh turmoil with the emergence on YouTube of a controversial TV documentary based on Amaral’s accusations.

A close pal of the McCanns branded the film a “lunatic conspiracy theory” and revealed the parents are considering legal action.

But who is Amaral and what claims did he make about the McCann’s?

Who is Goncalo Amaral?

Amaral is an ex-police officer who led the initial hunt when three-year-old Maddie went missing from the Algarve in 2007.

The now retired detective was removed as head of the investigation after criticising British detectives.

In July 2008, Amaral released a book called “The Truth of the Lie” which claims the McCanns faked the abduction.

What did Amaral claim in his book?

In the book, it is claimed that Maddie had died in their holiday flat and her parents faked her abduction to cover up the tragedy.

The book was released just three days after Gerry and Kate were told their status as formal suspects had been lifted on July 21 2008.

Amaral is understood to have earned £344,000 from his book before it was banned and a subsequent TV documentary.

Why is there a legal battle?

The McCanns claimed the book was hurtful and launched a libel battle against Amaral in April 2015.

Amaral was ordered to pay Kate and Gerry £430,000 plus interest in damages after losing round one.

However this decision was reversed by appeal judges in April last year, siding with the former police chief and overturning a ban on his book.

The decision sparked a fresh appeal by the McCanns to the country’s highest law court.

The McCanns’ Portuguese lawyer Isabel Duarte lodged the couple’s new appeal last May after vowing to fight the U-turn by judges over Amaral’s book.

Criticising the ruling in favour of the ex-police chief, which a friend of the McCanns said had left them “seething,” she said: “This decision was an appreciation of the law and not the facts.

“We can appeal to the Supreme Court which we will do as we have instructions from our clients.”

However the Supreme Court voted in favour of Amaral.

What happens now?

Kate and Gerry could now face a huge legal bill which has which had been frozen until the outcome of the final appeal.

Maddie McCann parents blast ‘cash-in’ claims ahead of 10th anniversary of disappearance
KATE and Gerry McCann have blasted claims they plan to make a fortune from the 10th anniversary of daughter Madeleine’s disappearance.

By Jerry Lawton / Published 17th February 2017

VANISHED: Madeleine went missing on May 3, 2007
Spokesman Clarence Mitchell denied allegations in the Portuguese press that the parents were taking fees for interviews.

He said: “They want to make it clear they are not making any money out of Madeleine’s disappearance.

“Any claims are spurious nonsense but fit in with the Portuguese agenda.”

The couple are bracing themselves for the 10-year anniversary in less than three months.

Madeleine, then aged three, vanished from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007.

They face financial ruin after losing a £1million libel case against former detective Goncalo Amaral, who said in a book and TV show he believed their daughter was dead.

The McCanns, both 48-year-old doctors from Rothley, Leics, have been ordered to pay his legal costs.

Mr Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry have not decided on any media interviews surrounding the anniversary yet. If any deal is done it will be extremely limited and no payment will be involved.

“Any suggestion that they will be paid is completely inaccurate and utter rubbish.”

The couple believe their daughter was abducted and could still be alive.

'It's not just Amaral but all the anti's spouting their nonsense. Kate and Gerry can't silence them all but their lawyers will be looking at any they feel are potentially libellous and damaging.'

What a load of bollox. Their lawyers can't do diddly squat. And they know it. I don't even think they have any lawyers anyway. Not now their skint.

Do any of these stories ever make the print edition or are they online only? They just seem to be rehashing the same thing over and over again. And surely even a Sun reader is bright enough to notice that the paper is repeating itself?

It was in the print edition yesterday when I inadvertently picked up a copy of the Daily Star in the evening.

Well they did run out of toilet roll.

They're definitely trying to 'educate' their readers.

As much as they can currently get away with anyway.

ROCK legend Sir Elton John is being lined up to front a global pop concert, to carry the message of missing Madeleine McCann’s plight to every corner of the earth.

It is hoped the singer will headline a huge series of worldwide events to mark a special Madeleine Day that her distraught parents are planning in the effort to find the vanished four-year-old. Sir Elton’s popular appeal is guaranteed to attract a swarm of other film and music superstars keen to offer support to parents Gerry and Kate McCann.

The couple, having promised not to return home until they are reunited with Madeleine, are now planning a series of visits to European and North African cities, to distribute posters and widen the appeal for information.

Sir Elton has played an emotional DVD of Madeline at his concerts, but now believes a larger effort would do more to raise awareness of her predicament.

Gerry McCann, 38, said: “One of the ideas is maybe getting all the people who have publicly supported us to come together. I don’t just mean from the UK but from different parts of the world. We want a big event to raise awareness that she is still missing.

“We would look at high-profile people who have already pledged support. It will be some sort of focus around an anniversary, to tell people thatMadeleine ’s still missing. I think it would be later this year, once media attention has dropped, to bring it back up, hopefully, for a short period.

“It wouldn’t be a one-year anniversary, it will be sooner than that. What we’re doing at the minute has its role but doing that down the line in a few months won’t have anything like the same impact. We might have a sporting event, something arts, something music.

"We’ve had backing from sporting people up to now. We have had backing from certain musical celebrities as well. We’ve got some other musical contacts that we are exploring, who are happy to offer support.

“We’re not saying it would necessarily be one big concert, it might be that on a certain day they are playing her DVD.

“What we want at the current time is maximum message out there now, about her disappearance but then just events to bring it back up occasionally just to remind people, if she’s not found.”

A month after the sleeping Madeleine was snatched from her bed, Gerry and Kate McCann have betrayed the first signs that their hopes of finding her alive are starting to fade.

The couple confessed that they are haunted by the harrowing thought of her being held captive by a pervert. Still desperately clinging toMadeleine ’s pink Cuddle Cat, 38-year-old Kate said: “We don’t know where she is. We’d like to think she’s still in Portugal, she might still be in Portugal.

“But we know there’s a possibility she’s gone over the border – or several borders. We know there are bad people out there, but we know there are also a lot of sad people. We hope it’s the latter.”

Gerry added: “Of course we believe Madeleine is still alive but you would be incredible if you hadn’t considered the worst scenario, that she’s dead.

“Kate and I discuss it – not a lot, but we talk about hope, and that while there’s some we will not give up. At the minute, there’s loads of hope.”

I noticed on one of the news articles from yesterday it had a still picture from GA's video of 'Smithman'.

I was wondering what the McCann's leading defence lawyer, Tony Bennett, thinks of that.....

... Also just started reading Textusa's blog and got to this point:

To the laypeople, the conclusion was a very simple one to reach: the man who Martin Smith saw was Gerry Smith carrying Maddie.

That sentence alone is enough to give Tony Bennett a coronary.

I hope he's got some doctors on hand.

Of course he has.

Will sit back now and watch Tony Bennett's desperate rebuttal of it.

Ha!

So Textusa doesn't believe Martin Smith saw Gerry McCann. Obviously he saw Gerry Smith the notorious, wicked black sheep of the Smith family. Shocked

Funny typo though
