Madeleine police face April deadline over questioning Portuguese suspects

TIME is running out for ­Scotland Yard to question three Portuguese suspects in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann

The trio were given “arguido” or suspect status in July last year which allowed Portuguese detectives to question them intensively about their movements around the time that Madeleine vanished in May 2007.

Details of those interviews have now been analysed by Scotland Yard officers.

Under Portuguese law the arguido status lasts for only eight months but can be extended, although that is not common.

If no formal accusations can be made, investigations are shelved, which automatically removes the arguido status.

With an April deadline approaching, the Yard is carefully considering its next move. Senior Portuguese police officers recently met British officials in Portugal for an update on what the Yard team seeks to do and how long it will take.

Although there are no plans to drop the four-year £10million Operation Grange investigation, led by Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Wall, the meeting focused on what new information has come to light and what more needs to be done.

It is understood that part of the discussion was about DNA samples taken from the Ocean Club holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on the Algarve where Madeleine was staying with her family.

They have all strenuously denied knowing anything about her disappearance.

The only three they have left  as suspects, with a lower standing in society these are ideal candidates to name as the culprits.  What they would want to take Maddie for is a mystery . A load of rubbish imo. They have been trying to find some mud to stick to these three since Christmas but it seems they are not going to succeed. Why it has all been quiet.

If the three mentioned are being kept in Arguido status at the behest of SY,can they expect a nice little payment if released from said status if nothing in the way of formal charges is not forthcoming.


OG/SY really have to my mind got themselves in a right pickle and they are desperately looking for a way out,the PJ have them where they want.

Same name as the suspect ,Ricardo Jorge, who was just 16 at the time Madeleine vanished.. Coincident or related ? common name over there probably.

OG seem to be at a crossroads atm, all this talk of these 3 suspects and DNA, then questions of the case being shelved? What's going on, from one extreme, to another!

I guess on one side you have us (we want the truth), on the other side you have those that want to bury it and finally we have the Met/OG. They possibly have a mix of both.

Basically a mess.

Thats it though,they can't find a patsy and don't know or have the wherewithal to withdraw,hard place and a rock.

The remit only allows for an abduction scenario,the PJ allowed OG/SY enough slack in the rope,OG/SY have managed to tighten it themselves.

My thoughts too Caricature, although I really think this is a bluff, and that real work is being done behind the scenes. I live in hope.
