Their greatest protection media-wise might now being used against them. In the past, the McCanns have got their information leaked out via anonymous "sources" and "friends". If the press are turning against the couple, they can cover themselves by quoting "sources" and "friends". We, the readers, wouldn't know any different and there's nothing the McCanns can do to stop them.
