A postmortem and cause of death ought to clarify matters somewhat.

The cause of death hasn't been made public yet but this is now a murder enquiry.

The suspect's age has been given as 16 so he won't be named if he is charged with anything.

Typical media inaccuracy for basic numeracy - the last murder on Bute was "30 years ago in 1997".

I'm near sure I read the 16yr old was being charged (in connection) with the death, (not murder). Hows that work?

I've read that the charge will be made public at the court hearing tomorrow.

The boy is known to the family which I don't think will come as any surprise.

It's frightening. There's people who you think you know but don't really.

We'll probably never be told officially because of his age but it has to be a family member - not dad or grandad obviously - how did he have access to the family home otherwise.

The house was flats though so maybe lived in one of the other flats?

He is being described now as a friend of the family.

Assuming he is guilty, what on earth convinced him that he could get away with it? Perhaps it's an urge that just can't be resisted.

Or maybe he is just a teenager, that odd mix between child and adult, convinced that they know everything, and totally unable to believe anything bad could ever happen to them?

I remember being convinced, at age 17, that death in the family only ever happened to other people, so, despite what the adults were saying, it would all be fine. Getting drunk could be risky for other people, but I would be fine.

I am hoping that I wasn't the only teenager who was convinced that they would always be hunky dory, whatever happened?

That sounds like most teenagers, convinced they know it all.

What this boy is charged with - and we must assume he's innocent until proved otherwise - is horrendous and certainly not normal teenage behaviour.
