Rebekah Brooks back with Rupert Murdoch
Brooks to join Murdoch-owned Storyful
Rebekah Brooks, the former chief executive of News International, is to be re-hired by Rupert Murdoch.
She is expected to begin a new role at News Corp-owned media agency Storyful that will focus on new avenues for digital and social media.
Sources told the BBC no announcement was imminent and Ms Brooks' salary was "still being worked out."
The role is likely to be based in the UK but involve frequent trips to Dublin, where Storyful is based.
Ms Brooks is the former editor of the Sun and now defunct News of the World newspapers.
She was acquitted last year of charges related to phone hacking during her time as editor of both newspapers and perverting the course of justice.
The revelations that journalists at the News of the World hacked the phone of missing schoolgirl Milly Dowler in 2002, ultimately led to the demise of the 178 year-old newspaper in 2011.
New boss
Storyful is an Irish social media news agency founded by former RTE current affairs presenter Mark Little and bought by News Corp in 2013 for £15m.
Current chief executive Rahul Chopra, who joined Storyful from News Corp as part of that takeover deal, only took up his current position in December, replacing Mr Little, who became director of editorial innovation.
He is a long time News Corp executive and, according to Storyful's website, also holds the position of senior vice president of video at News Corp, where he is responsible for video expansion across all of the company's properties worldwide.
He previously held several roles within business development at Dow Jones, primarily focusing on the Wall Street Journal's video, mobile and tablet expansion strategy.
Initial reports suggested Ms Brooks would be taking over at the top of Storyful, but sources told the BBC her role has yet to be fully determined.
No one from News Corp was available to provide comment.

She's back - Rebekah Brooks to return as News Corp UK chief - report
Rebekah Brooks to return as News Corp UK chief - report
News Corp has said it is in talks with Rebekah Brooks after reports she will return as chief of its UK division.
The former News of the World editor quit as UK chief executive four years ago amid the phone-hacking scandal. She was later cleared following a trial.
Her re-appointment could be confirmed next month, the Financial Times said.
Campaign group Hacked Off said it was a sign of an "unreformed, unrepentant press", but a former Times executive editor said hacking was in the past.
Mrs Brooks edited both the Sun and the NoW in a long career at Rupert Murdoch's company.
She resigned as UK chief executive in July 2011 in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal at the NoW, which eventually closed the paper.
Royals, celebrities and victims of crime were among those whose phones were hacked by journalists at the Sunday newspaper.
Mrs Brooks had denied any involvement and was cleared of charges relating to phone hacking last year. Andy Coulson, another former NoW editor, was jailed after being convicted of conspiracy to hack phones.
"There's a gall to just carry on appointing someone who - yes she's entitled to her verdict of not guilty - but she achieved that with a defence of incompetence; she didn't know what was happening, and yet she's coming back. It's astonishing."
But Roger Alton, executive editor of the Times until June, said Mrs Brooks had been an effective chief executive who was held in high esteem by the company.
"The phone-hacking scandal is in the past. The verdicts have been delivered, the punishments have happened. She is an extremely effective, talented person, most likeable, extremely good with people," he said.
The move would be a "PR challenge" for Mr Murdoch, but "he values loyalty - she is very loyal, and he's been very loyal to her", he added.
Image caption Mrs Brooks, pictured with Rupert and James Murdoch, said she felt "vindicated" after her trial
The FT's media correspondent Henry Mance said a return could be perceived as a "slight triumph" for Mrs Brooks, but some former colleagues might not welcome it.
"One senior journalist said she was nothing short of a nightmare, as an editor, that she would send 25 angry emails every morning saying the coverage isn't good enough," he said.
Before the phone-hacking scandal, Mrs Brooks gave Rupert Murdoch a "bridge to the British political scene", he said.
"It may well be that that is what he expects to happen again," he said.
A News Corp spokeswoman said of the FT report: "When we have any announcements to make we will let you know."
The leading candidate to replace him is Tony Gallagher, deputy editor of the Daily Mail and a former editor of the Daily Telegraph, the FT said.
Meanwhile, UK prosecutors said they were considering a file for possible corporate prosecution over phone hacking at the News of the World.
The file relates to evidence gathered as part of Operation Weeting, which investigated illegal voicemail interceptions at the Sunday tabloid, which was closed in 2011.
The Crown Prosecution Service said: "We have received a full file of evidence for consideration of corporate liability charges relating to the Operation Weeting phone-hacking investigation."

'PR challenge'
Dr Evan Harris, joint executive director of Hacked Off, said Mrs Brooks's re-appointment would show News Corp was a "dynastic, mafia-type corporation", with no regard for the feelings of the victims of phone hacking."There's a gall to just carry on appointing someone who - yes she's entitled to her verdict of not guilty - but she achieved that with a defence of incompetence; she didn't know what was happening, and yet she's coming back. The FT also reported that David Dinsmore, the current Sun editor, is to take a senior operational role at News UK and will work alongside Mrs Brooks. The leading candidate to replace him is Tony Gallagher, deputy editor of the Daily Mail and a former editor of the Daily Telegraph, the FT said.

Re: Rebekah Brooks
Apparently her salary is to be £3,000,000 per annum. Wonder what the tax is on that?
Are these top executives really worth that much money? When you consider the Prime Minister only gets £149,000 p.a.

Re: Rebekah Brooks
Ridiculous amount, equates to 60k per week.
Perhaps they envisage a very big surge in sales coming up that would perhaps justify all that.
One of the biggest ever news stories coming up and Rebecca was never going to miss out on that gig.
Imo etc.

Re: Rebekah Brooks
Spelt her name wrong. Nevermind.
Yes, she's back for a strategic reason.
Potential arrests, trials, convictions etc would be an absolute goldmine. Which would go on for a very long time too. (all those paper sales)
Potentially the biggest storyline in decades. The makings of the biggest one ever.
Imo etc.

@ Andrew
you could save me some time, if you'd copy [part of] the text and then provide the link with it.
No offense meant, just a comment from someone, who has to be economical with time ;-)

This is a shortened version -

Hacked off Stage IPSO protest over its ‘year of failure’
Hacked Off, a campaign group pushing for greater accountability in the press, has dismissed The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) as a ‘sham’ after it collated accounts of individuals who profess to have ‘no confidence’ in the regulator.
A protest timed to mark the body’s first anniversary will take place this morning outside the regulators London HQ, attended by ‘scores’ of those who claim that the press abuse of ordinary people is continuing and that the body does not comply with most of Leveson’s recommendations.
Amongst those to criticise the body, a successor to the Press Complaints Commission, are Christopher Jefferies (a former teacher falsely accused of murder), the Hillsborough families and the parents of Madeleine McCann.
To hammer home the message Hacked Off have collated the stories of individuals who it says have been badly treated by the national press.
These include the story of Chris Ware, a 20 year-old carpenter who was falsely accused of murdering his best friend whilst on holiday by some national newspapers. Despite this IPSO failed to investigate the case.
Commenting on these case studies Hacked Off wrote: “They all have in common that they were maltreated by national newspapers, and let down by IPSO’s response. Their stories palpably demonstrate IPSO’s serving of the newspaper industry rather than ordinary members of the public, and the effect that newspaper abuse with no means of redress has on the personal lives of those affected.”
The protest comes days after Rebecca Brooks, who was cleared of phone hacking practices while running the News of the World and the Sun, returned to run the newspaper publisher, stating that "it was a privilege to be back."

I note it doesn't mention anything about the McCanns paying £500,000 to be kept on the front of a newspaper every day for a year.
