Becky Watts: Review launched into whether tragic teenager's death could have been avoided
A Serious Case Review looks into what lessons can be learnt by authorities.

It can be launched when a child has died or is seriously harmed and there is cause for concern as to the way in which an authority or board partners have worked together in order to safeguard the child.

It is understood Becky would have been known to the authorities after she battled with anorexia and was educated while in hospital, rather than at a mainstream school.

What she must have been going through poor girl ,authorities again ?

How can such a review be held before the trial?

Both she, Chair, Sally Lewisand and the board are unable to comment further while an active police investigation is underway.

The trial for Becky's murder has been set for the 6th of october and will last about 5 weeks.

The trial started today and should last 6 weeks.

The Stepbrother and his girlfriend have plead not guilty.

You're right Andrew, it is very shocking. I cannot imagine how her parents must feel having to listen to all this, although I suppose the police would have told them what to expect.

I just can't understand the mindset of people who do such atrocious things and who can plan and carry them out. So, so sad for this poor girl and her family.

Been reading this case everyday it's the most horrible case iv'e read about.Gruesome.

Some of the relatives are walking out of court as it is so upsetting,i think he will get a whole life term and she might get life.

I would like to know why it's not on any news channel not even my local one.

Good question about the TV news... Not sure as rarely watch the TV, get the news off the net.

But yes it's horrific.

Bit out of touch recently, but why has he pleaded not guilty to murder. Although admits manslaughter...

Surely he's guilty of murder and premeditated too...

I suppose he'll claim it was an accident - he intended only to teach her a lesson and it got out of hand.

I don't think anyone will buy that though.

Like you said nobody will buy an accident.the Pathologist found bruises on her arm which indicated she was hitting some sort of furniture which meant she was fighting for her life while he was smothering her.

He did'nt like her as she was rude to his mother,imo that's no reason for what he did.

Matthews and Hoare guilty of murder and manslaughter respectively.

It's too early to find a transcript of the family statement but from listening to BBC news just now they pointed out that they had kept quiet and kept a low profile to enable the Police space to get on with their job...words to that effect.if only everyone attempted this dignified method of dealing with tragedy?
