The fund to find Madeleine McCann was ripped off by up to £100,000, claim whistleblowers.
Documents alleging the huge fraud have been handed to her parents Kate
and Gerry .
It is claimed a person connected to the hunt for the three year old used
public donations to fund his own lifestyle. He is said to have duped the
McCanns into thinking the cash was spent looking for their daughter.
Two whistleblowers named the man in sworn affidavits which The Sun passed
to the couple. They allege false accounting and forgery of travel and hotel
receipts. One said "What made the fraud so disgusting was money came
from people who shed tears over her disappearance and wanted to do their
little bit" The fund was launched in May 2007 when Madeleine disappeared
from the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz. It has raised more than £2million.
Backers include JK Rowling and David Beckham. There is no suggestion of any
wrongdoing by Kate or Gerry who thanked The Sun for the evidence. Last night
the McCanns spokesman said "Madeleine's Fund takes extremely seriously any
suggestion monies intended for the search have been obtained fraudulently.
Kate, Gerry and the other directors of Madeleine's Fund will co-operate fully with
authorities to ensure these claims are fully investigated".

if this story is true it must go back a while when the McCanns were paying 'top' detectives to look for Madeleine.

Why is this coming out now? Who are these whistleblowers? Associates of the conman who have developed a conscience?!

Which director(s) on the Fund board acted as treasurer, scrutinised invoices before payment?

What is the auditors role in this. Surely they should examine large expense claims?

So is this someone separate from Kevin Halligen? We are talking about a report in The Sun where garbage is regurgitated ad infinitum.

Not having much luck with managing this fund, are they?  First Halligen now this. Wonder what else might crawl out  of the woodwork.

I just posted on the Mirror thread that my first thought on reading the article was that it was spin to cover a real development that the McCanns want burying.

That the Sun have come forward with a second story so quickly is making me suspect that whatever the McCanns are trying to bury is big ...really big.

Bloomin' eck, Poe, I've just replied to you on the Krowkowski thread saying exactly the same thing.

Two stories in 2 days churning up old stuff which was put to bed years ago. Krowkowski is a timely reminder of Tannerman and this story puts a slur potentially once more on Oakley international, the company who hired Henri Exton who was very interested in the Smith sighting and had the efits compiled as part of his investigation. This of course was abruptly terminated at this very interesting time because of suspicions about Halligan. Or was that the reason for the abrupt termination? We know the McCanns were very unhappy with Exton's report...

So, one story brings back Tannerman. The other slurs the team who were focussing on Smithman. And the McCann spokesman is omnipresent.

What's about to happen?

I was wondering that and it might also explain why there has been such a concerted, but ultimately unsuccessful, effort to make this forum implode.

A little niggle:

The Mirror article mentions Burgau, Sagres and photographs taken on the day Madeleine disappeared while the Sun is linking the fund to fraud. Both these articles have Clarence's fingerprints all over them but are making connections that the casual reader will have previously been unaware of.

Are these the last desperate throws of the dice or is our Clarrie is getting ready to jump ship?

Thats what I am thinking too. Also they used a photo of them that does nothing for the "distressed parents" image.

It seems that photo has meanwhile been replaced by a more "serious" one ...

Perhaps the Sun has been instructed to change the photo as they can't be seen to diss the Macs but the comments are allowed to stand as not being said directly by the paper.

Oh but the joy of seeing those messages actually in print on the FB page is uplifting..
I think this could be the beginning of the end a way for fund to be investigated forensically by OG investigating a fraud of a fraud ..
