Re: The murder of Natalie Hemming
This might be an interesting documentary on Channel 4 tonight, the film makers followed a murder investigation from start to finish:

I thought it was really compelling and well done. Interesting that when the husband was interviewed and was asked how he felt when he found out his wife was having an affair he said, "I thought I've let her down." Sounds familiar!

It was actually in response to the alleged story she told him that she'd been raped that he said he'd let her down.

That's right I wasn't sure - there were lots of pertinent insights - his need for control and keeping control by knowing where the body was was very significant and made me think how important this issue is.

Catching a Killer
I think him not disclosing the whereabouts of N's body played a small part in an engrossing, dramatic, human and ultimately tragic story. He would have been advised by his legals not to say where he had disposed of her body as that would be an admittance of guilt. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, the police did not accept the plea and he was charged and found guilty of murder. He was a longtime perpetrator of domestic violence. The investigation team impressed me with their dedication, humanity and hard work.

Yes a very good fly on the wall documentary, interesting that they were prepared to go with the charge with out the body, but I think with out the body which was luckily found then manslaughter would have been the most likely result.

I interpreted his need to control as encompassing control over his partner's dead body. I felt that by having control over the body he was still exercising power and he was denying or attempting to deny her family any closure and his partner any dignity, she was left face down and naked - which seemed like a final violation to me. The scenario he recounted to the police that his partner had recounted a rape to him and his reaction to it was so delusional I'm amazed he thought anyone would buy it - but that's part of his psychopathy I suppose?

I don't think that was uppermost in his mind. His motivation was self-preservation, IMO. As Heisenberg posted earlier, if her body hadn't been found he would have been charged with manslaughter, a lesser charge and shorter sentence.
It was only a matter of time before her body was found (19 days) as the police had been searching the woodland area.

The murder of Natalie Hemming
Really good documentary.
He lied so easily. Probably a psychopath.
Makes me wonder about lawyers - if they know the truth, can`t they be charged with participating in a crime or obstructing justice ?

I've put this on its own topic.
I think we've talked about that issue before, Mimi.
It must be very difficult to defend some people but, whatever they have done, they are entitled to have someone representing them.
P.S. I remember this case where the defence counsel said he wasn't going to make any excuses for his client, only that he hadn't intended to kill his victim.
