Subtle way of breaking the news that Maddie was actually a boy?

Cunning plan - get the parents to say one thing in order to get the remainder of the country demanding the opposite?

They can't ever get it right can they?
If your child goes missing you do everything possible and ask for anything that might help find him or her but The McCanns don't think Madeleine should be prioritised and they didn't ask for extra funding. It's a very passive, don't blame us blame the police and government, response that you wouldn't expect from the parents.
I notice that the sum allocated to the investigation is undisclosed but thought to be £150,000. There must be a reason the actual figure hasn't been confirmed. The £150,000 is taken from previous allocations but this time it could be a nominal amount just to keep the investigation open.

The Mail are a little more circumspect with the figures.

With the chain of command established with the FOI reply, its not hard to nail down the source's.
It is thought the Metropolitan Police will receive about £150,000 to continue Operation Grange.
Sources close to the operation said in October that officers were hunting a 'person of significance'.

And there's the rub. We've gone from abduction to disappearance to hiding a body - this smacks of off the record briefings IMO.

I'm surprised that I haven't heard of Professor Barclay before.
Professor Barclay, David Canter and Chris Stevenson (?) are the three experts who feature in the Dispatches documentary - it's very good but I can't remember what it was called.
I thought it was pretty biased really. As with Colin Sutton in the papers, they were probably asked about ALL possible scenarios but the finished programme / article only included those that skirt around parental involvement. Professor David Barclay also says the dogs could have reacted to meat! Maybe this wasn't his full opinion on the subject and again only parts of what he said was selected, or maybe he agreed to speak on a subject he hasn't looked into thoroughly, who knows.
Now we have the media putting the emphasis on other things that were said.

From The Sun article ; "Last week former GP Kate, 50, and heart doctor Gerry, 49, of Rothley, Leics, were verbally attacked by the parents of two missing kids."
Really? Two parents of missing children question the balance of resources spent on one case and the McCann's 'on-call' journalist says they are 'verbally attacking' the poor McCanns personally. What a nasty accusation, they really will use anyone and everything to try and elicit sympathy.

It's normal behaviour alas with most of the MSM.
Anyone who criticises the McCanns personally and / or the ridiculously OTT attention the case has always attracted has to be discredited.

It's pretty low, even for their usual standards. It's verging on libel surely? They were complaining about how money is spent by the police, not 'attacking' the McCanns in any way shape or form.

Do I detect desperation from Rothley Towers? The 'troll dossier' backfired big time, imo. Surely this is clutching at straws.

And let me think, how many people have the McCanns possibly 'verbally attacked'?
Dr Amaral, Mrs Fenn, various other members of the Portuguese police, arguably the names in the 'troll dossier' who in some cases may simply have been exercising freedom of speech. Disagreeing with an opinion; not believing someone; being critical; countering an argument - these are not 'attacks'.

Re: Colin Sutton - We may never find Maddie - new handout is a waste of money
I'm pretty sure every person in the 'troll' dossier was exercising freedom of speech, hence why no-one was charged with anything. There is law that applies if you threaten anyone with violence or assault online. Calling people names, saying 'you wish they'd die' or anything similar is not a crime, even if some find it in bad taste. So of course as you say, being critical or not believing someone - also not a crime and no prosecutions resulted.
I think team McCann have chosen to target other parents of missing children now because the public are no longer convinced that everyone against them is a 'troll'. How can they draw attention to 'trolls' when recently some of their own pet trolls have been prosecuted for the same behaviour and even worse with child abuse images? Not a good thing to use as deflection any more, there isn't much left now.

I think with this case this expression comes to mind: 'you can fool some of the people all the time or all of the people some of the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time'.
Things have now gone full circle it would seem and I don't see them fooling anyone at any time now. Even Lorraine seems to be keeping quiet.
How will this all end? The million dollar question of course.

Hadn't read this before. Thank goodness for Colin Sutton - a sane voice from the police.
MM was a 'fake news' story which partly accounts for the media coverage, imo.
