Died of cancer at the age of 75. He'd been ill for some months apparently, according to TV news reports.
Is this going to turn into another JS case, perhaps? Many people feeling they can come forward now to tell what was going on in Dolphin Square, will LB's estate be able to cover all the compensation claims that may well come up.

Far too convenient. Still if he was involved in child abuse or covering up child abuse he'll be stoking the fires of hell with Jimmy Savile. You may escape justice in this world but not the next.

I had the same thought but didn't want to print it. However, he did look ill on the news earlier when he was shown walking along the road into a building but it doesn't rule out the fact that if he knew he was that ill that he took an easier way out to avoid any future court cases, etc.

Here we go.

Because LB had cancer it will have been known for some time that his death was imminent. Call me cynical but it would seem to me that a lot of stuff will now come out and be laid at a certain door.

Why does this come out after a death? Is it because of an illness? I mean in the news, not from any victims.

Because we have some of the most repressive libel laws in the world backed up by a judicial system that at times is little more than a lottery. While people are alive our craven press are too terrified of legal action to print anything that might cause them to be sued, even if it's true. That threat disappears on the person's death: You can't libel dead peopledogs don't lie wrote:Why does this come out after a death? Is it because of an illness? Not only that AndyB but things can be attributed to a dead person who cant then speak up to defend themselves. Not that I know one way or the other whether LB is complicit in anything.

Historic Abuse Enquiry
I recently did an interview with the Kent Messenger regarding the abuse I suffered in a Catholic Children's home in Kent. Herewith the article, it was a long interview, and Jamie picked up on things I might have preferred he hadn't, but what ho, I'm officially a tramp, lol.
Some people have already commented, not in a nice way, as they don't seem to realise that the beatings and the abuse within the convent walls, went much much further than what they experienced in the classroom. Ah well, ce la vie
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/dartford/news/i-was-victim-of-convent-30612
Incidentally, this is not the tabloid interview I did, which will I'm sure, incur far more wrath!

I'm sure that you're not the only ex-convent girl - or anyone escaping from other repressive upbringings - to run wild temporarily.
It seemed a good idea at the time is my defence!
May I ask Cristobell if your mother was around back then? Could you have talked to her?

We lived within a culture of 'you don't grass' Freedom, looking back it seems so bizarre, but we kids stuck together like glue, meeting them all these years later was incredibly emotional, it was like being reunited with siblings. If we told Freedom, we would all suffer further - one does something wrong, and everyone get punished. We had nightly meetings to remind us of how we should be loyal to the nun the paedo Uncle and Don Bosco, the home we were in, above everything else. Even our parents became 'outsiders'.
My mother did find out when she arrived unexpectedly Freedom. I had a black eye, split lip and bruising on my face. A 'mad' Irish woman, she immediately grabbed the sadistic Uncle (as opposed to the paedo one) by the throat and laid into him! Unfortunately, this put the entire house in punishment for weeks and I was to blame because if I had not wound the Uncle up, I would not have received the injuries! You can see how screwed up the thinking was back then.
What bugs me is the way they concentrate on the sexual abuse. The physical abuse was just as bad and it occurred daily and it affected all of us. I'm not talking the cane, or the ruler or the other sicko devices the religious used to punish us, I am talking about deranged adults in religious, maniacal frenzies laying into small children with their fists, boots or whatever else they can lay their hands on. Is it reasonable for a grown woman to break a six year old child's arm because they won't eat their dinner?

Re: Wide range of child and adult abuse inquiries
I didn't experience anything like this but I do know that I was afraid to report being humiliated or punished by a teacher because I was likely to be in trouble at home too. The attitude was that I must have done something to deserve it.
Even many years later I still found it very difficult to stand up to bullying supervisors because that attitude was so deeply ingrained.

Re: Wide range of child and adult abuse inquiries
He was interviewed by police last year around June/july i think regarding the rape allegations and that was in the papers at the time.Since then its been no secret that Tom Watson was asked to 'ease off' in Parliament presumably under the suggestion that maybe he was to ill to deal with it.
However,it seems the police are to continue their investigation into the allegatons of rape.
'Scotland Yard says it will continue to investigate allegations former Home Secretary Leon Brittan raped a woman in 1967, despite his death.
The Metropolitan Police Service has confirmed that a review of the case "remains ongoing".
It follows allegations by a woman that she was raped at a flat in London.
The woman was over the age of 18 at the time of the alleged attack, police said.
In a statement, police said: "In late 2012, a woman alleged to the Metropolitan Police Service that she was raped by a man in 1967 at an address in London.'
So now that one of the main cast in the VIP peado investigation is dead will Theresa May speed up her search for a new Chairperson ? Doubt they will have the stomach for it this side of the election particularly as most in the firing line at the moment are Tory MP's.

There was a report the day before LB died that a professor from Salford University had unearthed a file which had been hidden [ interesting word, not missing] for 35 years

Re: Wide range of child and adult abuse inquiries
It is worth noting that the infamous VIP peado file was first given to Brittan in 1983,not sure when it went missing but it is quite inconceivable that no one knew of at least some of the contents of the file at that time.
Now this was when thatcher was PM and her chief whip at the time and member of her cabinet was a certain John Wakeham later to become (thanks i think to John Major) Lord Wakeham and Leader of the House of Lords. Also became known as 'Mr Fixit' and well respected by all political leaders including tony bliar later as he called upon his services as well i believe.
Baron Wakeham had an extraordinary distinguished career and clearly a very respected 'mover'.
Interestingly he married Margaret Thatchers secretary a year or two following the death of his own wife in the Brighton bombings.
I have posted elsewhere the video of Tim Fortesque who was chief whip prior to Wakeham who openly spoke about covering up the abuse of young boys by 'honourable members'.
That is the chief whips job.
Like i say it is quite certain imo that the PM at the time and others since have been privy to the contents of that 'missing' document.
The chances of Theresa May finding a suitable Chairperson and resuming the inquiry with any degree of alacrity prior to the election is fairly small and shamefull.
Even those who have never believed in conspiracy theories have trouble with this one.

Re: Wide range of child and adult abuse inquiries
It was sickening listening to Leon Brittan`s obit on `Last Word` on Radio 4 last night - Matthew Paris and some other guy were running down Geoffrey Dickens saying he was as mad as a hatter, foolish, and a headline grabber (that`s from about 6mins on). Typical BBC.

Leon Brittan's catalogue of depravity
FORMER Home Secretary Leon Brittan sexually abused a boy of ten at paedophile parties in a notorious gay brothel, it was claimed last night.
By Tom Savage / Published 25th January 2015
Police were looking into allegations made about the top Tory politician when he died of cancer last week.
Award-winning investigator Mark Williams-Thomas, the man who exposed Jimmy Savile as a paedophile, confirmed: “Police took the allegation very seriously.”
Lord Brittan’s apparent sexual deviancy has been rumoured for decades. But today, for the first time, the Daily Star Sunday can reveal what is actually known to authorities.
We can disclose that Brittan’s alleged victim said he was abused while at primary school.
And we can report sickening testimony from a social worker who describes seeing photos taken in the 1970s of Brittan dressed in kinky outfits with naked boys sitting on his lap.
Brittan is said to have abused children at Elm Guest House, a boarding house in Barnes, west
London, run as a brothel in the 1970s and 1980s.
Documents placed online in recent years – but until today unsupported by independent evidence – said he was one of a number of high-profile attendees.
Last night former detective Mr Williams-Thomas spoke out to clarify rumours and explain exactly what was being investigated.
He said: “In 2013 the police became aware of information that related to an allegation of sexual assault of a young boy in the 1980s.
“This information related directly to a sexual assault alleged to have occurred at the well known and notorious Elm Guest House. It was alleged the offender was Leon Brittan.
“Police took the allegation very seriously and believed it to be credible.”
Mr Williams-Thomas told how Elm Guest House was raided by police in 1982 amid fears children were being abused there.
But he added: “At the time no investigation was done into potential child abuse offences. This was clearly a massive failing by police.
“Following the Savile exposé in 2012, Elm Guest House was investigated again, properly this time – an investigation that remains ongoing under the name Operation Fairbank.
“In 2013, officers travelled abroad to see the potential victim. This person is now an adult but was aged ten when the alleged abuse occurred.
“The man now lives in the US and, prior to travelling to see him, the British police asked the local sheriff to visit and speak to him.
“The sheriff confirmed the man was prepared to make a statement and name Leon Brittan as his
alleged abuser.
“Local police added they felt his account was credible. Yet between the time of the local police speaking to the alleged victim and the British police flying out to see him and take a statement, he changed his mind.
“I am aware of a specific reason as to why I believe he changed his mind. At this stage I can’t say what this is, other than to say he came under pressure not to give a statement.
“The British police therefore had a credible alleged victim and other supporting evidence from the 1982 raid.
“If he (the alleged victim) had given a signed statement Leon Brittan would have been formally interviewed under caution over the child abuse allegation.”
Brittan, who was Home Secretary under Margaret Thatcher from 1983 to 1985, was also named by another alleged victim as being among a group of VIPs who he saw at paedophile orgies at the Dolphin Square flats near Westminster.
Brittan made no public comment on the allegations before his death from cancer at the age of 75 on Wednesday. Friends said the politician was horrified by the accusastions.
Last year he was quizzed by police after a woman claimed he raped her in the late 1960s. Police were investigating that case when he died.
Brittan also came under fire after campaigning MP Geoffrey Dickens handed him evidence of a Westminster paedophile ring in 1983.
The files went missing and the crimes were never investigated.
Mr Williams-Thomas added: “I have heard the many rumours flying around. This is why I’ve chosen
to set out what was known about Leon Brittan and what was being investigated – no rumour, no assumptions, just fact.
“I am doing exactly what Leon Brittan’s friends have said – ‘put up or shut up’.
“Ultimately only Lord Brittan knows exactly what happened over his many years – true or false, these are the allegations he faced.”

Secret documents which revealed a top diplomat was under investigation for paedophilia have been released to the public.
The file, prepared for the then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, reveals details of an official investigations into Sir Peter Hayman, who was named in Parliament as a paedophile by MP Geoffrey Dickens in 1983 and died in 1992.
The dossier is dated October 1980 - March 1981, and entitled: "Sir Peter Hayman: allegations against former public official of unnatural sexual proclivities; security aspects".
It has the code name PREM 19/588, indicating it was prepared for the Prime Minister Mrs Thatcher long before Sir Peter was named in the Commons.
Campaigning MP John Mann called for the file to be provided to the inquiry investigating historic allegations of child abuse and any subsequent establishment cover up.
"All of these files that have been classified need to be opened up," said Mr Mann.
"This one is of great importance. There could well be some very significant information in it and it needs to be looked at."
Despite the file qualifying for released in 2011 under the 30 year rule, the Cabinet Office kept it hidden from the public until now - citing security issues and “advice from the law officers”.
A public record of the document which was previously available had Sir Peter’s name removed.
Confirming the decision to release it, a Cabinet Office spokesman said: "This file was originally kept closed as it contained information from the security services and advice from the law officers.
“We have reviewed that decision and have now released the file into the National Archives."
The file can be viewed by the public at the National Archives in Kew, south-west London.
Sir Peter Hayman – a former deputy director of the secret service - caused a scandal when he was caught with paedophile literature in 1978.
The then director of public prosecutions, Sir Thomas Hetherington, advised against charging him.
He was cautioned but not prosecuted, and Hayman reportedly told police: “If this comes out I shall either shoot myself or go to Brazil.”
The discovery and subsequent police investigation was not made public until 1981.
