So, on a day when people new to the case might be Googling Amaral's fund after reading the "news", it disappears from Google.

OK.

#mccann

I posted this morning that I can't get gofundme  I have also tried the link but again nothing. Can anyone help, do I have to use a different search engine?
Doesn't this link at the top of scrolling bar work Costello, it works ok for me.

Otherwise use Yahoo, apparently that brings it up.
The problem is Google. They've removed the go fund me site from search results, but not references to it, so you can see that it exists but can't click on a link to get to it. I'd love to know why they've done it

Thanks I am now using the index link here. I have just read someone posted on CMoMM  late last night that there was a problem so obviously Google removed the fund site at some point yesterday.

It's true. Look on Bing (American) and it's the first three pages of hits. Look on Google (UK) and it's nowhere to be seen! Very odd indeed - too odd to be complete coincidence.

Is it definitely only Google that is causing the problem with this? If I Google Go Fund Me, I can reach their website, but once on the Go Fund Me website, if I type Goncalo Amaral in the search bar, his appeal does not come up.
I think PJGA, or whoever is now running this appeal perhaps need to speak to Go Fund Me, as the website is helping itself to a percentage of every donation made and - as we all know - that total is now very close to £50,000. It seems rather hypocritical of them to take people's money while at the same time making it very difficult for them to donate in the first place. What kind of business are they running? And what would the level of donations be if they afforded Goncalo Amaral the same level of service they give others on their website?

@ Popcorn - yes I confirmed this earlier in the thread. Searches for 'goncalo amaral' and 'amaral' on gofundme's own internal search both return no results whatsoever, which is pretty shocking. It *may* be that their search is powered by Google, although I can see no indication of this, and most websites don't need/do that anymore.

Strange - However, still very good to see lots of people getting the direct link out there on Twitter etc and good to see the figure still climbing. Every cunning plan of theirs seems to backfire....

I see this Wednseday is mentioned in the appeal, but according to this which was written when the fund was boosted by the donations from the Portuguese no date is mentioned.

http://portugalresident.com/appeal-to-raise-money-for-maddie-cop%E2%80%99s-legal-costs-gets-huge-cash-boost

An anonymous group of Portuguese “business and legal workers” have ploughed over €11,000 (£8000) into the online appeal set up by a young single mother to raise money for beleaguered ex-Maddie cop Gonçalo Amaral. Amaral’s appeal against the €600,000 in damages awarded against him in the civil case taken out by the parents of missing Madeleine is due to be decided by Lisbon’s Appellate Court “any day now”.

The cash boost has brought the Legal Defence for Gonçalo Amaral to over €65,000 (£47,010).

Donated in the Portuguese language, the text claims to be from “an anonymous group of business and legal workers who are appalled by what has happened”.

It continues: “Portugal and Britain are old allies, but the McCanns and the British gutter press have tried to drive a wedge between us.

“We can all see what they are trying to do, freezing Dr Amaral’s assets to prevent him from defending himself, whilst using the donated millions to sue him.

“That is not justice. It is not right.

“The McCanns lost five out of the seven issues, but the British press has not reported that, nor the strong terms used by the judge against their so called ‘evidence’.

“They have to pay 60% of the costs, but the British press has not reported that” either, the text continues, stressing that “this small donation is to ensure that this act of hate and venom does not succeed”.

The donation - arriving in the legal fund in two chunks on Tuesday morning - has been widely shared on social media where a veritable avalanche of support for Amaral has accompanied him for the past eight years. But so far it has been ignored by the British mainstream media.

As to the former PJ detective’s appeal against the ruling that effectively orders him to pay the McCann’s over €600,000 in damages, that is advancing now through the Appellate Court in Lisbon.

As a friend of the former detective’s explained, “it is not a public process. There is no court date.

“At some point, the judges reach a verdict and then they communicate that verdict to all parties. There is however no deadline. It may take weeks or months until we hear anything”.

Gofundme's sudden withdrawal from this appeal smacks of them being influenced by the same forces that, ahem, influenced the Wayback Machine administrators into bizarrely acknowedging their archive system could be flawed and then fiddle with the archived records to disguise the capture dates.

Who the hell has this sort of influence over these huge organisations and why weild it to protect the McCanns? Yet more evidence that there is more than the McCanns' skins at stake here.

The same day the press report on the Mc's dismay at Goncalo's appeal starting this week, funded by public supporters? Google stops linking to the site, GoFundMe utter some gobbledegook about needing a facebook page for the search to work on their site (been working fine for the last few weeks since Leanne withdrew, hmm?) and the fund blasts through £50K.... nah not buying it.

THREE conincidences mean what, Kate?

Oh dear. The McCanns do not show up well alongside the dignity of Kerry Needham.

Where did their polished media-savvy go to? What on earth are they paying Clarrie to actually do?

I just don't see Google risking reputation their reputation for the sake of a couple of doctors and £50k Fund and it doesn't matter who they are connected to. Could you imagine if Google swiped stuff every time a VIP found themselves in hot water, it is just not practical. Google are a global corporation, their ideals are based on philanthropy, the sharing of information, they wouldn't give in to Jim Gamble when he was head of CEOP, can't see them doing it now.

The McCanns make us believe they are far more important than they actually are. They are important of course, but not in the sense that they want to be. The people who helped them in the past are no longer in positions of power. Blair has gone, Brown has gone, and the aging others are going to be on the other side of house for the next 5 years.

Heads will have to roll of course, but I'm sure they will find ways and means in which to use a State Secret law to the get the higher ups off the hook. Same cannot be said for those closer to the scene. It would be a bit embarrassing now if all those experts and professionals had to explain how they were so completely taken in.

What an eventful day. The media savvy look to be eating themselves every time they come to the table, the harder they try the more they open themselves to flack even managing to upset the poor Needhams. Shouting about the fund has backfired several times now, each one increasing funds to fight for Madeleine and Goncalo. Even Jatyk2 seem to be on the back foot with no argument apart from the usual bile and repeat of Kate not answering cause her lawyer told her!

Re: 'Internet trolls backing ex-cop' - Star
Post  Pedro Silva Today at 10:21 pm

these insane freaks / antis are obsessed with the 48 questions, they are so insane that their madness don´t allow them to understand that it was Mrs. McCann´s laywer that advised her not to answer those 48 questions (which is a legal right under Portuguese law) because those 48 questions had only one crazy purpose: to accuse her of something she never committed.

It doesn't sound convincing does it? We know who cares about what befell Madeleine. That's why we are here.

I've just seen on the other thread that it's to do with the appeal not being linked to Leanne Baulch's Facebook account any more. Perhaps JPGA will open a Facebook account that they can link it to.

It seems a bit of a coincidence that you can't search for Goncalo Amaral within the GFM site. However, Leanne handed over the running of the fund months ago so strange that it could possibly need linked to Facebook now or indeed that it could be that the target has been reached. Again this happened some time ago.
Surely, if it is possible to pay to have searches manipulated, anyone with nefarious intent would have tried right from the outset and long before there were thousands of negative comments made about the McCanns. Why wait till it was about to hit double the original target?

They've certainly got 'form' for getting things 'whooshed' off the net.

Whether they had any direct influence on the formentioned, then I really don't know.

A coincidence though, absolutely.
