Andrew wrote:He looks fairly genuine to me. A journalist who appears to have a keen interest in the whole McCann farce.
Probably wanted to gather some info privately and discreetly but then Jill and Tony plaster it everywhere.
Tony harassing him on twitter to probably scare him off.
Job completed by the looks of it.
I'd like to think it was genuine Andrew but even if if it was a fishing exercise or setup we'll never know now.
For me the most annoying aspect of this is that it gives those that believe us that discuss the case online are trolls and/or nutters another notch on their bedposts to further beat us over the head with.
Paranoia is taking over. And some of all 'sides' are contributing to it.

If Mr. Souster strolls down the corridor to The Insight Team at The Sunday Times he can get the full unedited dossier.

I am unsure about this. he is a sports journalist but has exposed corruption in sport. I think it inappropriate that Jill Havern and Tony Bennett have publicly said he contacted them.Obviously they should be careful with any journalist contacting them but the Sunday Times has a relatively good record for investigative journalism. Now he appears to be back pedalling and I can't blame him. maybe it was never legit (ie pro Madeleine) but I like to think positively and any journalist expressing doubts about the official line always lifts my spirits.

Re: Mark Souster and the complete mystery of the DM's and the now deleted twitter account
I realise the need to be cautious following an approach like this but the decision to go public so quickly is hard to understand. There was plenty of time to establish a private social media relationship without giving too much away, ie accidentally providing material for the paper if the intentions weren't sincere.
following the Sun/trolls debacle in Feb, it's right to be suspicious. But this could be a genuine breakaway by a lone journo and although MS currently writes on rugby for the ST he may have been planning this for another media outlet, after all what would be the problem in losing your one day a week job there if you managed to break one of the biggest stories of all time?
there are still a number of things needed to establish the authenticity of the approach by MS but a more thoughtful response could have done that.
the link with Kennedy (ie the current state of the relationship between BK and MS, and between BK and the McCs) is the key.

The more I read about this Souster chap, the more I actually like.
He took the bbc on in 2002 and won.
Just Google Mark Souster versus bbc, and there'll be a few articles about it.
Sounds like a good bloke who will stand up for what he believes in.

I'm agreeing with you Andrew, I think he seems genuine enough. Only time will tell if he decides to go ahead or not.

Might have to wait a lot longer now a certain someone has gone about deliberately and intentionally to scupper it.

The best thing this Souster chap could have done is to run a series of stories concerning the file's,thats not been done as it.

Statement from Mark Souster. Shared with permission #mccann
Hmm. Mark Souster is being a bit tongue-in-cheek here, I think.
He refers to Jill as "a Jill Havern" as if he's never heard of her before. However, a quick look at his Twitter timeline shows him retweeting a tweet from sharonl and linking to CMoMM on August 26th. So he's not completely ignorant of her forum.
I think he's backtracking.
So do I. Tony's name is spelled wrong deliberately too IMO.

Re: Mark Souster and the complete mystery of the DM's and the now deleted twitter account
I would like to believe in this so still have an open mind but I keep thinking about two phrases that don't quite ring true
"I am a McC sceptic" and "my personal support for GA"
just sounds to be over egging it a bit
also he says this has nothing to do with his relationship with the Sunday Times. I suspect it would be up to them to decide that, not him
but still not totally dismissing it ...

If any journalist is serious about getting to the truth, I think the best thing to do is to stay away from Twitter and certain forums. Lesson learnt maybe.

People can read it on your blog Cristobell, it is about the person more than a post so I think it best for people who want to read it there. - admin

Well it appears Souster has taken himself off Twitter and deleted his account.

Failed thanks to Tony Bennett and Jill havern giving such coverage to his approaches to them.
maybe it was never genuine, but I feel either they should have ignored it or had a meeting with him, said little and tried to get him to reveal where he's coming from. And have recorded the meeting.

Re: Mark Souster and the complete mystery of the DM's and the now deleted twitter account
well either way we've learnt something.
either (a) there are journos out there who are at long last genuinely interested in developing the story and trying to solve the mystery
or (b) there are conniving journos out there who want to diss people on internet forums by cosying up to them and then turning on them via the MSM
but which one is MS?

With him deleting his Twitter account it just makes him look guilty. It is pointless because I'm sure multiple people have saved all his Tweets. Another dossier!
It is sad and angering that the story now isn't about a missing 3 year old but about 'trolls' and the war with the media on Twitter.
I swear that the (mis)use of SM from all sides is what is being used to shut down discussion about this case and some are walking right into it. All according to keikaku?
Genuine question: Does anyone here really trust any of the "well known" Tweeters on the mccann hashtag? Because I don't. And it is at least partly their own fault even if some really are genuinely trying to seek truth.

Re: Mark Souster and the complete mystery of the DM's and the now deleted twitter account
Amused that CMOMM head researcher Bennett posted that he couldn't find any sign of Souster writing articles for STimes recently.
Then someone posted a link to a very recent article about rugby which is Souster's specialist area.
IMO opinion Mr Bennett is not a rugby fan - a quick google shows Souster has written lots of rugby articles last month about the world rugby tournament which England is hosting.

@RosalindaHu @Wonderwoody1 people must ask why TB always alienates 'sympathetic' journalists. Why do that when media is what is needed?

As the reason most of us are here is to get the truth about Madeleine's disappearance into the public arena, the hostility of the other place towards Mark Souster is quite bizarre, especially as they no idea what he was going to ask them!

Re: Mark Souster and the complete mystery of the DM's and the now deleted twitter account
I wonder what he might have been thinking of writing given that a police operation is still active in both countries, combined with libel laws and the principle that everyone is innocent until declared guilty in court.
the fact that he had already been in contact with two of the more outspoken critics of the investigation so far do make me think he isn't very good at choosing his contacts if he is genuine.
that makes it more likely he was planning an expose of trolls, internet nutters etc, just like we saw in the Sun.

I don't think the Sunday Times would be planning an article on Internet trolls and all that guff.
