Madeleine McCann detectives believe the missing youngster could still be found alive
It is nearly nine years since the three-year-old went missing in Portugal
Metropolitan Police operation was recently cut from 29 officers to just four
But today homicide boss Mick Duthie insisted there is 'always a possibility' she will be found alive
He said Scotland Yard will continue to seek funding for as long as possible

IE they are happy to drag the investigation out until the funding dries up.

Re: 18/04/16 - Madeleine McCann detective: we still hope to find her alive
So according to all these news articles (another 2 updated/released within the last couple of hours), DCS Mick Duthie has only spoken to the 'Evening Standard'. Nobody else but them and they've relayed the info to all the other outlets.
Now how does that actually work..... Does DCS ring up the Evening Standard and say swing by the OP Grange offices and will give you the latest scoop? Do the Evening Standard badger DCS Mick until he gives a statement?
Did DCS Mick actually say anything at all (like last time - no 'official' statement from the Met) and if he did could it be all taken out of context with some customary pink spin? Surely they (the press) couldn't get away with making it all up could they?
Generally don't know how it all works but very intrigued to find out how it does......
Anybody know?

Re: 18/04/16 - Madeleine McCann detective: we still hope to find her alive
Not sure about the protocol of notifying newspapers, but I do find this quite interesting.
The detective in charge of the search for Madeleine McCann said today that police still believe the missing girl could be found alive.
Today the head of Scotland Yard's homicide squad insisted there is 'always a possibility' that the girl will be discovered safe and well as he justified the ongoing operation.
So if the detective in charge of the search is the head of Scotland Yard's homicide squad, what does this tell us, since they've cut the investigative team back to four officers? I think it tells us quite a lot.

Operation Grange would seem now to be very small beer, without a senior officer, so falls under the responsibility of the overall Head of the Murder squad. I can't see that he will have any hands-on involvement and is likely only to be dragged out when a press announcement is required.
