The Loch Ness Monster
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3746815/Is-Loch-Ness-Monster-Holidaymaker-claims-snapped-photo-Nessie-having-lunch-balcony-holiday-home.html
Obviously been thousands of stories and claimed sightings about 'Nessie' over the years. This one is from yesterday.
Any Nessie believers out there... or on here, I should say... ?
Never actually been to Loch Ness myself but it looks a beautiful part of the country.
Costello and Chirpy - You're both from Scotland. Have you ever been and clapped eyes on the Nessie...?

Re: The Loch Ness Monster
Been to Loch Ness but never saw "The Beastie." Nessie is a legend....a very lucrative legend. I would think the McCanns were hoping Cuddlecat would engender sales on a par with him, but sadly for them, CC doesn't have the charisma or the staying power of the LNM.
Perhaps they should have hired the Scottish Tourist Board to do their marketing.

Indeed...
I read somewhere that the Nessie myth/legend brings in about £25 Million a year.
A very nice little earner.

Re: The Loch Ness Monster
The famous 1934 Nessie photo was a hoax started by a doctor - hmmm!

Re: The Loch Ness Monster
I suppose you could argue that making money out of 'Nessie' is fraudulent? Perhaps not as fraudulent or deceptive as the Marketing McCanns but still a con?
You can buy all sorts of Nessie stuff here:
http://www.lochnessgifts.com/
Not to mention all the tours, excursions and the like.
If it was proven that Nessie didn't exist then they could kiss good-bye to a large chunk of that £25 Mill it brings in each year but they need to keep that myth going and 'alive'
I should imagine Nessie has made a lot of individuals extremely wealthy over the years. Just like Madeleine McCann has made a lot of individuals very wealthy over the years.
Quite a few similarities between the Loch Ness Monster and the McCann case. Never thought of that before.

Over the last 9 plus years, I wonder who has had the most 'sightings'.... Nessie or sadly Madeleine.

Apologies Andrew, just had a look at the thread as have been busy. I have never been to
Loch Ness, sadly to say, but I have always thought there was 'something' (whatever that might be) there.

Re: The Loch Ness Monster
I hadn't thought of similarities between Nessie and the McCanns before!
People have made money over the years based on the legend of Nessie but there haven't been any threats of legal action against those who think it's hokum and there aren't, as far as I know, rabid Pam Gurney like supporters prowling the Internet.
To me, it's harmless.
Now the McCanns are a different kettle of fish (or some other kind of marine life) altogether!
Some might say that Auntie Phil is the connecting link between the two subjects......

money making sightings
I worked at Loch Ness many years ago when the Foyers power station was being built. The locals used to say that despite them having lived all their lives overlooking the loch none of them ever saw anything. All the sightings were by visitors from Inverness or people with money making agendas.
Quite a lot in common with all the sightings of Madeleine and her abductor.

As I've never been I will take a drive up sometime taking a tent, a fishing-rod, a pair of goggles and a camera.
I will report back my findings.

Humber Monster makes Nessie look tame
If it is as big as those drawings in the article I'm surprised anyone could miss noticing it.
MONSTER IN THE HUMBER: Search on for beast stalking the coast of Hull
THE search is on for a terror of the deep which makes Nessie look tame.

Stories like this reassure me in my belief that 99% all of the news is fabricated, and that newspaper journalists are laughing at the stupidity of their paying readership.

Poor old Humber Nessie must be green with envy at the lack of publicity compared to that for Loch Nessie.
I've never heard of it before.

Just seen this. What a fantastic piece of investigative journalism. It's on a par with the 'Werewolf from Hull' carry on.
Brilliant. Always brings a smile to my face.

Somebody once told me that my mother cooks socks in Hull. At least I think that's what she said.

Fortunately my mother wouldn't have understood that one!
Lots of cooking the books and excessive sock activity in some places but that's another story.
