In a nine-page legal complaint they had sought to invalidate the ruling accusing the Portuguese judges of “contradictions” and acting “frivolously”.

There is no higher Portuguese court to which Maddie’s parents can now take their claim.

In the book, it is claimed Maddie died in the family’s holiday flat in Praia Da Luz and her parents faked her abduction to cover up the tragedy.

The book was released just three days after Gerry and Kate were told their status as formal suspects had been lifted in July 2008.

Amaral is understood to have earned £344,000 from his book before it was initially banned

The McCann's could now face a hefty legal bill after the court wrangle with Amaral.

Speaking after the court found in favour of the Portuguese ex-cop last month a family friend labelled the decision "disappointing".

They told The Sun: “It was never about winning big libel damages but all about them silencing him to stop them spouting his untruthful and malicious lies.

“It has always been more of a personal battle and they are bitterly disappointed they have lost but not totally surprised.”

His comments, based on the police investigation in which other experienced officers were also involved, hardly comes into the category of someone deliberately making up false allegations.

Who are they going to 'fight on' with? Dr Amaral is out of the picture now.

Can somebody kindly point out to Jill that it doesn't say that in the article and maybe she should actually read it first.

It reminds me of those rare occasions when somebody is acquitted in court, and the police spokesman does that sarky thing of standing on the court steps saying "Whilst we must accept the court's decision, we will not be looking for anybody else in association with these events", or whatever.

Just show some dignity or, if you can't do that, at least try to fake it by keeping your mouth shut!

And haven't various courts in Portugal concluded that the conclusions that he reaches are perfectly valid based on what's in the files?

I don't know if it's possible to see that people have withdrawn their likes of a page.

It's not the same as being a member of a group where you actually have to be approved of to get in. It's possible that the membership numbers decrease when people leave but, thinking of here and of course CMoMM, that only happens when accounts are deleted and not when people just disappear of their own accord.

I honestly don't know, Canada. Wouldn't surprise me.

I looked into it before briefly and couldn't see any connection between Murdoch and Nine Entertainment (plus holding companies).

Not to say there isn't mind.. but couldn't find a link myself.

He was born in Australia but is now a naturalised American citizen.
