The other thing is if they embalmed her body, she would have been taken to a mortuary, whether in the hospital or at a funeral directors.  I can`t see that the hospital would have the machines, the pumps, tools and gallons of embalming fluid on hand - or a mortician to perform the embalming. It needs to be done in the mortuary on a special metal table.  But maybe they had their own mortuary which is usually some distance away from the main hospital.  All her blood and body fluids would have to be drained from her body (not a straight forward process that could be performed in a hospital side room or emergency theatre) whilst embalming fluid is pumped in.  And, btw, permission has to be obtained from her family for this process to be done - who would that have been? Probably her mother or her sisters I would think (NOT the man she was divorced from).

This is a respectful and quite tender video of what is entailed - so IMO Diana would have been taken to a mortuary that carried out this procedure. I hope I`m not upsetting people by talking about this because I used to work in a funeral directors and watched embalming done quite often - also dressed people myself. The emblamers were always very respectful and took care of their patients. I was also a nurse and performed last offices on people who died on the ward, so it`s not a `no go area` for me. Don`t watch the video if you don`t like to see dead bodies.

It does reinforce what Candyfloss said - how was there time to do all this?

I was reading the newspapers, whilst listening to the radio too. When I first heard about her accident, I actually thought it was a radio play. When I realised it was real, I kept following the news on radio, but especially also on tv. And was struck by two things: Charles standing outside the hospital with an expression, which to me looked like: Lord what have I done. But most importantly [for me late that day, still watching tv] the images of her coffin being carried out of hospital, covered with the ENGLISH flag. Put into the airplane, still carrying the English flag.
Being outed of the plane in England with the WINDSOR flag. And I thought, they must have been having serious discussion as to which flag to use ... Late night I switched on tv again AND saw her coffin being carried of hospital in Paris with the WINDSOR flag. Now, why oh why ... ?

I'm not sure if I understand correctly. Are you saying that you saw the same piece of footage on two occasions but the flag was different?

I don't know how that could be - perhaps a flawed memory of what was such a shocking and emotional day?

Yes, same flag on photos and television recaps in the evening, BUT on the morning footage in Paris, it was the British flag.

And no flawed memory, Freedom, I was stunned the same day.
Even 20 years ago, it was possible to manipulate images. We were using it a lot for publicity. And one day I asked one of IT-ers to "plant" trees in my street, in an afford to convince the local council that that was much nicer than rows of parked cars [especially in a very old fortified city].

This is quite an old programme but I found it interesting. I was a bit put off at the start by referring to Diana's earlier suspicions that she would die in an arranged car crash - I think that was just a coincidence, written at a time when she had reason to feel paranoid about everyone - but then it did improve and mentioned several things which have not been explained satisfactorily.

Goodness, nearly 25 years on from this event and interest in it is still high.

A new series of programmes which I shall watch at my leisure.

I hope that there will be someone interested enough to watch it as I'd like to see if they agree with what I thought.

The only problem for me with the story is the condition of the driver Henri Paul before the crash. The French police scoffed at the stories that the post mortem results didn't belong to him but they needed to answer how a man who was supposedly very drunk and with a high level of carbon monoxide in his body, showed no signs of either in his behaviour.

I can accept that an alcoholic might be able to conceal that he was drunk, though there is no evidence that M Paul was, but with that amount of carbon monoxide, he would have been incapable of functioning.

I am glad to hear that Mohamed Al-Fayed finally accepted the accident verdict and I hope that he has found peace in his last years - he is 93 now.
