From the article
Kate and dad Gerry, both 49, have seven weeks left of guaranteed funding for Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange, due to end after a £11.3million hunt.
So the MET are working for the McCanns?

Funds and McCanns using remainder to spend on Private Dicks when Op Grange ends
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5536195/madeleine-mccanns-parents-have-750k-in-the-find-maddie-campaign-coffers-as-hunt-faces-being-shelved/
New financial records show Kate and Gerry have almost three-quarters of a million from public donations and book royalties
THE parents of Madeleine McCann have nearly £750k saved in a fund to help find their daughter - giving them a lifeline if the official police hunt is axed next month.
Kate and Gerry face an agonising wait over the future of the investigation into Maddie’s disappearance nearly 11 years ago.
But it can be revealed there is a healthy balance of £728,508 sitting in an account which they will dip into if needed.
The stash of cash in the Find Maddie Fund - made up mainly of public donations and profits from Kate’s bestseller book - has grown over the past financial year, according to the latest accounts released a week ago.
But from this total a huge chunk - £51,718 - has been set aside to be paid to the McCann’s Portuguese lawyer Isabel Duarte over a failed libel battle against an ex top cop who accused them of accidentally killing their daughter and hiding her body.
The couple from Rothley, Leicestershire, have appointed new accountants after the surprise resignation of their long serving financial advisers.
Maddie’s parents, both 49, have just seven weeks left of guaranteed funding for Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange inquiry.
Detectives have not yet requested further funds from the Home Office to continue their work in April.
They have been struggling to unearth any new clues despite saying last summer they had “a final line of inquiry” to pursue.
A Home Office spokesperson said today: “At this stage we have not received any request for extra funding. But as funding is in place until the end of March we wouldn’t expect an application to be submitted for consideration yet."
If Op Grange, launched in May 2011, is shelved the McCanns have vowed to continue the search themselves.
Family spokesperson Clarence Mitchell said: “The Met Police will put in a further request for funds if they feel work still needs to be done.
Money in the Madeleine Fund gives Kate and Gerry the option to pick up their own inquiries again, if they choose, with private investigators.”
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman declined to discuss the future of Op Grange.
Three-year-old Maddie vanished from a holiday apartment in Portugal’s Praia da Luz in May 2007 while her parents were dining with pals in a nearby tapas restaurant.
Kate and Gerry have never given up hope that their daughter could still be found alive. She would now be aged 14, nearly 15.
Her twin siblings Sean and Amelie have just turned 13.
Renowned heart doctor Gerry and former GP Kate, now a medical worker, were given fresh hope in the search for Maddie last autumn with an extra cash boost of £154,000 to detectives.
The inquiry has cost taxpayers £11.2 million so far.
Madeleine’s Fund “Leaving No Stone Unturned”, which is not a charity, was set up shortly after the youngster vanished with the sole purpose of “securing her safe return to her family” and bringing her abductors to justice.
Gloria, I've transferred your post here.

I have split this topic away from Grange thread, and given it its own thread in Latest News, as it is better kept separate when you need to search for stuff.

Re: McCanns using remainder of Fund money for Private Detectives when Operation Grange ends
The most important question though.
If they are using up the remainder of the healthy stash of £750,000 to pay for the PI's, how will they then pay Mr Amaral his costs and court fees. The accounts are only up to March 2017, and they lost the case after that.
So the question is can they spend the money if they still owe money?

JillyCL @JillyCL ·
Do I detect a schism in Camp McCann?
The #McCann$ describe Gonçalo Amaral as "discredited Portuguese detective" in their annual a/cs submitted to Companies House.
Tracey Kandohla describes him as "ex top cop" in today's Sun.
*******
Never thought I would see the day when Tracey Kandhohla would call Mr Amaral a 'top cop'

Who did they hired?
Probably no one, exactly as the £750,000 they are talking about today.

Re: McCanns using remainder of Fund money for Private Detectives when Operation Grange ends
A thought occurred to me,if the Mc's know Maddie is dead, they know no one will ever find her. Pay a 'private investigator ' if Grange isn't continuing, then when the time comes to settle the compensation, court fees etc, they say 'sorry we have used the money to search for Maddie' . That will ensure a degree of public sympathy and possibly more donations .Said investigators then quietly make the money accessible to the Mc's again less some basic costs. That or a similar variation in a way money laundering .
I also thought the article was written very double edged

I put my post on wrong thread, tried to copy it and deleted it grrr.
What I was trying to say was that last night I wondered where the alternative and usual nonsense story was and lo and behold it appeared like magic. Except this wasn't quite what we usually get, not the fawning but totally different with some nice nuggets thrown in,not like the Tracy Kandohla we all know and love I wonder if they are furious.

They are both so unconvincing, imo.
Notice Gerry's smirks and duper's delight lip curls at the 0.36 mark on-wards. There is no sincerity in what they say. What 'progress' is being made? There has been no progress at all as far as I can see. I suppose all they can do is go on and on about how they believe she could still be alive and how they will not give up.
Notice how Kate cuts in at the end while Gerry rambles unconvincingly, with not a hint of sincerity in his voice of his body language.
What a fright they both are.
Repeating the same old mantra with no challenge from the authorities - I find it unbearable. Why are they still getting away with this nonsense?
I do like it, though when Kate, when Kate talks about people they don't know about still supporting them. Wishful thinking? I think Kate will know exactly who is now supporting them as I imagine the figures are astonishingly low and could almost be counted on two hands.
IMO as always!

I agree with this, Clarence is desperately trying to spin things as usual. Could use the money for a private investigation isn't a definite. They just want to deflect from it being a private fund that they can use for themselves by pretending they will use it for something honourable like a search.
Why don't they offer it as a reward? Who could resist nearly a million pounds when all they would have to do is turn in a nasty, old, abductor or bungling burglar?

Re: McCanns using remainder of Fund money for Private Detectives when Operation Grange ends
The McCanns it would appear have spent very little on searching for madeleine in recent years. Its hard to tell of course as the accounts are less than transparent to be polite about it. If they had engaged new ace detectives ABC Ltd then I think Clarence would be telling us about this, about the huge cost and how they hoped the public could help more.....
Now they have been planting stories about conserving the dwindling funds by buying investments to get the best return so that when and if Operation Grange stops they have money to continue the search.
What a load of xxxxxx
Operation Grange is going nowhere fast. If madeleine is still alive and was kidnapped there are two possible scenarios:
1. Best case scenario: She was kidnapped to order and is now living with a family and is settled with them. She will remember little of her early life. So it is vital they find where she is and get her back to begin the long task of adapting to return to her birth parents. The older she gets, the more likely it is that she will not want to return. She would be 14 in May.
This scenario is very unlikely as a kidnapper would surely have gone for one of the two year old twins. Why take an almost four year old for a family desperate for a child of their own?
2. She was kidnapped and sold to paedophiles. Either they have tired of her and killed her or she is living a miserable existence, being raped and working unpaid, cooking and cleaning for the scumbags who bought her. A horrendous existence.
So in either scenario you would expect the McCanns to spend on experienced detectives and a renewed advertising campaign involving social media. If alive, the teenage Madeleine might have some access to social media. How could they sit on all that money given what might be happening to their daughter.
Or they could offer a huge reward. Did they ever offer a reward for information?
They are keeping the money in case they have to actually pay all the money they owe for legal fees in the failed libel action. While in law the limited company the Fund is separate from them, there may be a way of getting the Fund to pay given that the company has been funding the libel case, which we all knew, but it was actually revealed in the 2017 accounts filed recently. Isobel Duarte is the get £51,000 for the work over the years on the case.

Is £ 51,000 for work over eight years enough?
Wouldn't they also pay for the legal process costs?
That sum should be pretty huge.

Is this laying the groundwork for headlines about Mr Amaral draining the fund of money that could have been used to find Madeleine?

Can they get away with this line any more? Does anybody apart from TM and dwindling band of supporters believe that Madeleine can be found? There is not a shred of evidence to suggest that she could still be alive. We simply have the word of the parents and their family and friends.
