Jenny Murat is quoted here as to why she set up the stall. I really think she was just trying to do her bit to help.
This was of course before her son became a person of interest.
I wonder what happened to the book she was writing about the case.

Re: Madeleine – Two British expats set to be declared suspects
A young teen has been missing where I live for 24 hrs. She's just been found thank goodness but when the news broke early evening everyone was asking how they could help. News has been spread by text and social networks. People were doing what they could to raise the alarm.
I don't think it's right to cast aspersions on anyone for trying to help in any way they can. Is setting out her stall really any different to what the local mums did electronically tonight. I have no doubt that if any info had come in, it would have been passed to the family. I suspect it probably did in this case because she was found shortly after.
I have to say though despite tonight's reasonably happy ending, I am still in bits and I don't know the family that well, which takes me back to the broad smiles seen a few days after 4 May 2007. It's just really odd behaviour.

@ Freedom
on this we have to agree to disagree, I suppose
this being the same Jenny Murat who provided her son with an alibi for said night
'Sitting in the kitchen - talking' - at least two dogs outside
When blue lights were flashing - torches piercing the night sky - and general pandemonium erupting
Less than 100 yards away
Sorry, this won't wash
