Does anybody know what happens if (or when) the Go Fund Me target is reached? Does the campaign stay live in case anyone else wants to donate or does the page get taken down?

That said, I do think this campaign has been a great opportunity for those who care to look, to see how many ordinary, decent members of the public have bothered to read up on the details of this case and are not satisfied with the way it has been handled. My question, though, was really about the mechanics of Go Fund Me, never having come across it before: I wonder if Leanne Baulch, having stated that £25,000 is her target, will automatically find her page taken down once that target is reached. Or can she choose to leave it open, in case others wish to donate? If possible, I think the latter option would obviously be much better.

I see what you mean Popcorn, if you go to the gofundme  homepage you will see other fund raising campaigns and the amounts that have been raised, i'm sure the donations just carry on indefinitely, although I am not certain of this. I just thought Leanne set this target of 25k, and I would think she is overwhelmed at the response so far, so hopefully it will just continue. I'm sure you can contact her on the gofundme  site or twitter.

I don't think anybody's thought that far ahead, TBH. The idea was just to raise £25k then transfer it to the Portuguese fund. Then when Goncalo's legal bills come in, they get paid from that account and anything left over will go to Portuguese childrens' charities. I don't know what will happen when or if the £25k gets raised and more money comes in, or for how long the page will stay up.

Can't stand the suspense so here it is. we need a big benefactor, high profile donor to show the world that this is serious. It may be that 25k is just the start in something bigger and more significant.

Wow, thanks Helene and P M whoever it is I will also put it on the latest news thread.

Again absolutely brilliant, only 5k to go, the last part of the mountain is always the hardest to climb. Hopefully within a few days the target will be reached. Kudos to Leanne, she must be so happy.

A fantastic achievement and hopefully even when hits the 25k mark it won't stop. 

The general public are waking up.

The publicity it's generating as well is brilliant. 

The tide will turn eventually and we're in the process of that happening. Slowly but surely.

I don't want to be a bringer of doom but the Gofundme site takes 5% from all donations, so that means it will leave a shortfall of £1,250 to be found to make up the £25,000, a total of £26,250 will need to be reached, they then take 5% from that total, so 5% off the £1,250 if my adding up is correct, but I expect it will reach that total or more anyway. I just hope it all goes to GA.

I see poor Verdi has been shot down in flames for asking a few pertinent questions "over the road", but there is no harm in asking seeing as the fund belongs to one person and there is no getting away from that, it's stated on the payment page.

It seems that people don't like to be confronted with actual facts, the same as when someone takes out an insurance policy but they don't read the small print then wonder why they don't get paid out the money they were expecting or don't get paid out at all.

I did ask sometime ago where the amount of £25,000 came from to aid GA, but I never did get an answer. I would be interested to be informed if anyone does know.

You obviously don't read the print on anything you donate to.  On the front page of the Gofundme site for GA it states at the bottom -

We trust that Justice will be served.
