I did notice that too but it's a dog rather than a cat!

Thinking of how that girl in Italy (I think) a year or so ago was linked with Madeleine by the tabloids (she turned out to be Swedish and 21) I'm surprised actually that there hasn't been any mention of her here. The age is about right.

She has apparently been identified; it doesn't look as if we will be told what her circumstances are.

Well, not exactly under his nose - she was momentarily out of sight. Very frightening though; thankfully she has been found alive.

A strange case indeed, Rosa. We've mentioned it before but I don't know where as it doesn't seem to be on this topic.

This is just me being pedantic as usual but how is Mike 15 now when he was 11 exactly three years ago?

The second sentence: is she referring to more than the disappearance of her son, maybe to events before it?

In 1974 in the Netherlands 2 young men vanished from the earth. 44 Years later, today, they're searching with sonar equipment in a lake after getting "information" about the case. IMO it may take time, but "cold" cases are never closed ...

Hello Freedom - I can't find where myprevious posting used to be - ah well...

Mike's mother looks to have lived quite a life, and latterly seems to have run off with an aging roue from Invercargill :




...which split up Mike and his beloved stepfather from their Queenstown home.

There hasn't been talk of any paedo scenario, it's more of a PACT type situation.

I expect that our Irish members will know about this case - this lady has been missing for almost a year and you won't need to phone a friend to know who the number one suspect is.

I had heard of this case from a friend in Ireland. Has some parallels with the Mccanns. Husband reported his wife missing 4 days later so when she actually went missing hard to know. they had moved away from her family and friends in recent times so less people to know what was going on. Dogs also tell us something. She had two dogs and a parrot and no children. devoted to her pets. But she leaves them, and her mobile and keys. her husband says he thought she had gone away to clear her head...
I think he is controlling as I find it odd that a women in her 40s who had no children never appears to have done paid work when her husband doesn't earn much. I suspect he did not want her to work; preferred her being financially dependent. He is unemployed now and was a truck driver. Supposing she had wanted to get a job...that would have reduced or eliminated his dole..and he would be the dependent? I suspect a row over this in which she ended up dead. But unless they find a body, he will get away with it. he is giving multiple interviews aka the McCanns but he doesn't have a PR guru to advise so things are coming out about the marriage from the interviews which confirm people's suspicions that he is responsible.

This was a mega missing person story in its day.

It seems strange though that, if the father has admitted killing his son, why has he not said where the body is?

This makes grim reading - the mother was allegedly involved too.

Body of missing girl, 10, found after NINE years in Maddie-like case




THE body of a 10-year-old girl who went missing nine years ago in case that was compared to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been found.

Lindsey Baum vanished in June 2009 while walking home alone from a friend’s house.
After nearly a decade of searching, police found Lindsey dead in a remote (removed quotes) part of Washington.
Lindsey was last seen alive on June 26, 2009.
The night she disappeared, Lindsey went to a friend’s house for a sleepover — then headed back home alone after the other girl’s mum said no to her staying. he wasn’t seen again.

No one has ever been charged in connection with her disappearance.
Grays Harbor County Sheriff Rick Scott said Lindsey’s remains were “unknowingly” found in September by hunters in Eastern Washington.
The sheriff didn’t identify the exact area where Lindsey was found — beyond noting that it was largely used for hunting, with no one living there — or further describe the condition of her remains.
He said that the “vast majority” of questions people were going to have about the case would be unanswerable at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
Scott did not discuss a possible cause of death or motive.
In the nearly nine years since Lindsey went missing, more than 20 possible people of interest have been connected to her case.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday afternoon, Grays Harbor County Sheriff Rick Scott described the recovery of Lindsey Baum’s remains as a “devastating” development for her family.
The sheriff said investigators are now narrowing in on the suspect or suspects responsible for her abduction and slaying.
“The prayers and hopes of the family were that we would some day find her alive and bring her home. Now, the reality is we need to find a homicide suspect,” Scott told reporters.

“We’ve brought Lindsey home. We’ve recovered her.”
Sheriff Scott on Thursday said the next step would be a forensic examination of the area where Lindsey was found dead.
He did not specifically discuss any suspects.
He urged anyone with information about what happened to Lindsey to come forward, even if anonymously.
“There’s someone out there that knows who did this and how this happened and there’s people out there that have information that would be the nugget that we need to explode this investigation and culminate in an arrest,” he said.

We need those people to have the courage to come forward.”
British girl Madeleine McCann went missing on May 3, 2007 from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
The search for Maddie is still going on today, with fresh funds being poured into the case.

Police are yet to establish what happened on the night she went missing.

This shouldn't give certain people reason to claim that the Iberian peninsula is rife with child stealers as it's a parental abduction but it might not stop them from doing so.

I remember this case at the time - 30 years on, there's hope that an answer may be found to the mystery.
