"The remaining line of inquiry is centred around a letter asking for assistance sent from UK investigators to the Portuguese Public Prosecution Service in July 2015"
I wonder what that letter was all about then.....
Wasn't there some talk last year of asking to test the forensic evidence held in Coimbra? Curtains I think.
I think the Portuguese were not too happy to let SY test it outside PT. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes, that does sound very familiar indeed. Was certainly something along those lines wasn't it....

popcorn:
If the Mccanns are the target, SY will not make it clear. If it's unclear to us, then it's equally unclear to the McC's. BHH has said SY have been working with the Portuguese - and, of course, it's the Portuguese who must prosecute the McCanns, at least re Madeleine.
As pointed out above, Sonia's tweet was IMO positive.
It's going to be a very interesting Spring and Summer!

'Could finish in a few months unless new evidence comes forward', sounds more like winding it down without a resolution than following a very strong lead and nailing those final loose ends to me.
I might be in the minority but in regards to this case, then I have never felt so optimistic.
Along with the recent fantastic news about GA and now BHH saying there is one line of inquiry (that everyone agrees with), that remains to be concluded and is expected that in the coming months that it will.... also saying that they have been carrying out the investigation with the Portuguese (and other countries?).... etc etc.
Not to mention how hacked off Gerry was the other week.
Yes - to me the end is very close now and there is absolutely no way in the world that they can whitewash it away. Not now.
But that's just my thoughts.

Snipped from Dee's link:
They met with the bosses of Portugal’s Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Coimbra, two hours drive north of Lisbon, where most of the material, also said to include 25 blood and saliva samples, is held.
I also recall GA ages ago mentioning a very important strand of hair that was kept back. Something to with the root and awaiting advances in DNA or something...... (or did I dream up that as well).

Also snipped from Dee Coy's link:
Nearly 100 strands of hair tested during the original Madeleine McCann investigation were never DNA-matched, it emerged today.
Portuguese forensic experts analysed 444 hair strands they believed could hold the key to the youngster’s May 3 2007 disappearance.
They found 432 were human and 12 non-human. They were unable to DNA-match 98 of them and only obtained partial results from 19 of them, Portuguese daily Correio da Manha reported.
MADELEINE MCCANN: THE SEARCH CONTINUES
British detectives probing Madeleine McCann’s disappearance want to retest some of the hairs as well as curtains hanging in the Algarve apartment where she vanished.
Scotland Yard are expected to apply for permission in a sixth international letter of request to take the samples from a Portuguese lab so experts can look at them in the UK.
The fifth letter, understood to contain a request to reinterview three new suspects quizzed in the summer, has yet to be answered by new Madeleine McCann prosecutor Ines Sequeira.
I wonder if this evidence is the subject of the letter sent in July 2015?

Re: Madeleine McCann investigation could finish in next few months ITV News 26.4.16
Another thing. Everyone of late has really distanced themselves from the McCanns...
No rally of support from anyone 'famous'. No invites to sit on sofa's. Clarence had to go to the other side of the world to do some poxy stand up in front of students and hasn't been seen since. Gamble hasn't come out scrapping on twitter like he usually does. Missing people have gone missing as well in showing any support to there ambassador.
No mention at all of the original 'rich' bunch who jumped on the initial bandwagon with there eyes closed and wallets open.
Not an absolute sausage. Nada, squat.
They are in a very dark and lonely place. No doubt expecting that early morning 'knock' any time soon.
IMO.

Madeleine McCann's parents "not surprised" police probe could end in a few months

PAMadeleine McCannPolice are following one last line of enquiry into Madeleine McCann's disappearance
Madeleine McCann's parents are "not surprised" the investigation into their daughter's disappearance could end in the next few months.
Britain’s most senior police officer said a handful of detectives are following just one remaining line of inquiry.
Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said unless any new evidence emerges, that will spell the end of the British probe.
A close friend of Kate and Gerry said: “They’ve been waiting for the end for some time.
“They are not in the least surprised and it is something they expected after all these years.

“They are aware police want to pursue one remaining line of inquiry but have been told not to discuss it publicly.
“When the investigation formally ends Kate and Gerry have always said they would continue the search for Madeleine themselves.
“It’s a boost to them that the police remain hopefully she could still be alive.”

Family spokesperson Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry are aware of the Commissioner’s comments.
“They remain incredibly grateful to the Met Police for all they have done and continue to do in the search for Madeleine.”
PABernard Hogan-HoweBernard Hogan-Howe has said the investigation could be over in a few months
Portuguese authorities re-opened their much-criticised inquiry in 2013 to run alongside the Met investigation.
There are now fears they could also shelve their probe - leaving no police force actively looking for Madeleine.
Sir Bernard’s announcement will come as a major blow to her parents Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, Leics.

The three-year-old vanished from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

Asked when Operation Grange - the Met’s review into Maddie’s disappearance - will end, he added: “It would be at the conclusion of this line of inquiry unless something else comes up.
“If something new comes forward we will investigate it, but that line of inquiry probably at the moment is the conclusion of this inquiry.”
Scotland Yard refused to say what the final line of inquiry - which Mr Hogan-Howe said is ‘worthwhile pursuing’ - is about.

But it is believed to be a possible link between a series of burglaries in Praia da Luz around the time Madeleine vanished.
Operation Grange was launched in 2011 following widespread criticism of the bungled Portuguese police investigation.
But detectives have made no arrests despite investigating 60 people of interest and taking over 1,300 statements.
Officers also investigated 560 lines of enquiry and even dug up parts of Praia da Luz in 2014 in a search for clues.
There have been nearly 9,000 reported sightings of Madeleine around the world since her disappearance.

Operation Grange was massively scaled back last October, with just four detectives left working on the case.
But earlier this month it received another £95,000 in Home Office funding to cover another six months.
Just last week the detective in charge of the investigation said he believes Madeleine McCann can still be found alive.
Detective Chief Superintendent Mick Duthie, head of Scotland Yard’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “There is ongoing work.
“There is always a possibility that we will find Madeleine and we hope that we will find her alive.

“I imagine that if we have not completed our inquiries within six months we will go back to the Home Office and ask for more money.
“We have a smaller team dealing with it because we have less inquiries to deal with, but we still have a job to do.”
Maddie’s mum Kate, a GP, said earlier this year that she thinks her eldest daughter, who would turn 13 next month, is still in the Algarve.
She and husband Gerry, a heart specialist, believe Madeleine was kidnapped from her bed and is still alive.
Theories investigated by police include that she was sold to a childless couple or criminal gang, or taken by a paedophile.
Last week the McCanns were left ‘seething’ when ex-Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral won a libel appeal against them.
They are taking the case, about claims he made against them in a controversial book, to Portugal’s Supreme Court.

Re: Madeleine McCann investigation could finish in next few months ITV News 26.4.16
There they go again... "When the investigation formally ends...."
This speaks volumes. I think they mean to say "IF the investigation formally ends..." however when it's directly quoted as "WHEN the investigation formally ends..." then it implies a) that they know for certain that it WILL end (how?) and b) that they know for certain Madeleine won't be found (why?)
This is exactly the same slip-up that Gerry made when making plans for the 10th anniversary of Madeleine being missing, back in 2007.
To say these things tells us that they truly know Madeleine will not be found and that they truly know what happened to her.
Two little words, "if" as opposed to "when"... but they mean a world of difference.
"If" implies uncertainty.
"When" implies advance knowledge of the outcome.

I think everyone else wants it to end as well but with some cuffs slapped on and get the truth and justice for your daughter Madeleine, aged 3.

It was Kate and Gerry who lobbied for the case to be opened again. After years of not wanting it to be opened again. And yet, they could have requested it be re-opened at any time in Portugal.

Yeah, like he** they know about the remaining line of enquiry - they wish !!
Also change "something they "expected'" - to something they hoped in that quote.
I maybe out of order but with GA being able to get his book published and on sale again maybe, just maybe, the world at large might finally begin to question the events as recorded on that day in May. I am hoping so much that recent information of the damages trial/appeal granted about his book can recreate interest in this case and raise the oh so many obvious questions.
There are a lot of us have been with this for years trusting, hoping, the truth will come out and one day I am sure it will. OIMO

Regardless of how much money they've made and profited from the demise of their eldest, I can imagine a day, hour even, doesn't pass without them wishing they just kept their mouths shut the day they left Portugal and just disappeared under the carpet, which the case probably would of done at the time too.
Imo.

Absolutely agree Andrew. In my opinion alerting the MSM so quickly was a big mistake, but I do think this was Gerry's way of self preservation.

Sounded very positive to me, he seemed very positive about this line of enquiry and that it would be the end of the case. Listen to him carefully and watch his face at the end.

Wonder what that last dose of money is for, is it for this last line of enquiry?
