MUSIC stars including Lesley Garrett, Rick Astley and Jodie Prenger are joining forces with a choir of families whose loved ones went missing for a charity single launched on the ninth anniversary of the disappearance of Rothley girl Madeleine McCann.
Never Gonna Give You Up singer Astley, opera singer Lesley Garrett and talent show winner Prenger and a host of other household names are teaming up with the Missing People Choir in a bid to drum up support for their missing child campaign.
Parents and loved ones involved in the single include the mother of schoolgirl Alice Gross who was missing for a month before she was found murdered and Nicki Durbin, whose son Luke went missing 10 years ago this month.
The track, called I Hope will raise awareness of some of the UK’s missing children including Madeleine McCann and Ben Needham.
Three-year-old Leicestershire girl Madeleine disappeared during a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007 and 21-month-old Ben vanished from the Greek island of Kos in July 1991.
The song highlights the heartbreak facing families with missing loved ones and the often agonising hope of seeing them again.
Alongside Astley, Garrett and I’d Do Anything winner Prenger are 1990s pop singer Chesney Hawkes, former X-Factor group G4 and star of the musical Wicked, Kerry Ellis.
Hawkes said: “I feel honoured to be joining the Missing People Choir on this single. The power of the lyrics really brings home the struggle faced by those families living in limbo, hoping that their child will one day come back to them.”
Ms Durbin said: “It’s a hugely emotional time for me and my family as we reach 10 years since we last saw my beautiful boy. It would be truly wonderful for families like mine if the public would put their support behind this single and show the world that Luke and all these missing children are not forgotten.”
The song will be released on Friday, May 20 to mark International Missing Children’s Day on May 25 with all profits going to the charity Missing People’s Find Every Child campaign.

Re: 9th anniversary - 03/05/16
I thought Rick Astley 'gave up' several decades ago.
Leslie Garrett...... Never heard of her.
Prenger...???? Exactly, who the hell are they.
Top drawer there then. 3 for the price of 1...
Well I suppose you could argue a tenner won't break the bank.

Re: 9th anniversary - 03/05/16
What I'm seeing is a bunch of (let's be kind) pretty low-profile singers who have been asked to support a charity and have been glad to get involved and talk in general about the tragedy of people who go missing. From there, Missing People has decided to launch the song on the anniversary of the disappearance of their favourite 'missing person', from where it can be dressed up as an endorsement for the McCanns.

Re: 9th anniversary - 03/05/16
Apologies all, but can't stop laughing to myself...
Chesney Hawkes as well.... and some group called G4 who got booed off the X Factor in the first round.
Talk about scraping the barrel.
On a serious note though, it's great that awareness is being made for genuine missing children. It's just a shame the McCann circus has to be attached to it.
Imo.

G4 were the losing finalists one year in the X-Factor, Andrew; they weren't booed off in the first round. They were good, I thought.
I'm ashamed to admit that I used to watch the programme now!
Lesley Garratt is an opera singer.
Not quite the star-studded Band Aid type line up though.

Re: 9th anniversary - 03/05/16
So why did Loughborough Echo say it was for the 9th anniversary in their headline, I wonder? Did their own writer conflate events or did someone suggest it was about Madeleine? Most of the time, the headlines are all people read in newspapers.

And from this...

Music stars join Missing People Choir to help reach missing children
on Tuesday, 03 May 2016.
The Missing People choir, which is made up of families with missing loved ones have joined forces with music stars from across the decades including Rick Astley, Chesney Hawkes, Nik Kershaw, Carol Decker, Lesley Garrett, Hayley Tamaddon, Jodie Prenger, Debra Stephenson, Kerry Ellis, Balsamo Deighton and G4 on a charity single which they are hoping the public will get behind to help reach every missing child.
The original song, ‘I Hope’ was inspired by the words of Kevin Gosden whose son Andrew went missing at the age of 14 in 2007 and highlights the heartbreak facing families with missing loved ones, and the often agonising hope of seeing them again.
‘I Hope’ is available for pre-order now in Itunes, and will be released on Friday 20 May ahead of International Missing Children’s Day (25 May) with profits going to the charity Missing People’s ‘Find Every Child’ campaign. An average of 140,000 children go missing in the UK every year and the campaign is aiming to be able to reach every one of them.
Missing People Choir members performing on the single include; Nicki Durbin, for whom the song also marks the 10th anniversary of the disappearance of her son Luke on 12 May, Peter Boxell, whose son Lee went missing in 1988, Sarah Godwin, whose son Quentin went missing in May 1992, Ros Hodgkiss, whose daughter Alice Gross was missing for a month before she was tragically found to have been murdered, and Denise Horvath Allan, whose son Charles went missing in 1989.
Nicki Durbin, mother of missing Luke said, “It’s a hugely emotional time for me and my family as we reach 10 years since we last saw my beautiful boy. It would be truly wonderful for families like mine if the public would put their support behind this single and show the world that Luke and all these missing children are not forgotten.”
The music video will also raise awareness of some of the UK’s most long-term missing children including Madeleine McCann, Ben Needham, Kevin Hicks, Sandy Davidson and Katrice Lee.
Chesney Hawkes said, “I feel honoured to be joining the Missing People Choir on this single. The power of the lyrics really brings home the struggle faced by those families living in limbo, hoping that their child will one day come back to them.”
The single’s release has been made possible thanks to the ongoing support of Royal Mail. The company has been working with Missing People since November 2014 when it began distributing “high risk” missing people alerts - including Child Rescue Alerts – to its 123,000 postmen and women across the UK through their handheld scanners. The Missing People Choir’s performance in the music video was filmed at Royal Mail’s Mount Pleasant Mail Centre, where they were joined by the company’s own Mail Voice Choir.
Gary Grange, Royal Mail Community Investment Manager said "Royal Mail is a national company with a local presence and our people are at the heart of every community in the UK. We are proud to support the charity Missing People and ultimately, the families longing for news of their loved ones. We hope that the support we provide helps raise awareness of missing people and provides greater hope for families who are going through the most unimaginable torment.
We’re thrilled that our Mail Voice choir took part in the video and would urge everyone to download the single and to help the charity find missing children and reunite families.”
“I Hope” was co-written and produced by Missing People Choir Director James Hawkins and Ash Alexander. The music video was produced by Rav Vadgama.
James Hawkins, Director of the Missing People Choir said, “This song is all about bringing people together through music. The families of missing people have come together to form a choir and share their very unique experiences together and in doing so are communicating this to the rest of the world in a way that words alone can not. As the saying goes ‚‘Where words fail, music speaks‘.“
Clare Cook, Head of Campaigns at Missing People said,“We are so very grateful to everyone who has already got behind this single - from the producers and performers to the Royal Mail, and hope that with the public’s support we can find some of the 140,000 children who go missing in the UK every year by raising vital funds and awareness.”
I Hopeby Missing People Choir (feat. Mail Voice Choir & Friends) is NOW available to pre-order on iTunes ahead of its release date of 20th May.

I wonder if the lack of invitation from Lorraine & the deafening silence from the msm on the anniversary is a distancing exercise because there will be "real news" in the near future.
Oh and Clarence.
I've just searched @Mitch_1uk on Twitter to see what the pink one is up to and ...no mention of the McCanns at all since March.

That article is weird. Sick in fact.
Poor Madeleine.
9 years of this charade and she still can't rest in peace.
Hopefully soon though. She deserves that at least.

Well they will do. The article in a roundabout way is all about how great Kate and Gerry are. That's the intent of the message.
They get paid to write this tripe.
Where's the personal 'open letter' from the parents to Madeleine.......
And I don't mean the half-arsed statement on the OFM thingy, which seemed more concerned about getting people to download some song and hand over cash. Again.

The biggest scandal in the case is NOT what happened to Madeleine #McCann, but the brainwashing of a NATION into believing she was abducted.

Gerry and Kate McCann's renewed hope of finding Maddie on ninth anniversary of disappearance http://thesun.uk/6012BWHTj
I just find that such an odd thing to say........'renewed hope'. In what why....how? Operation Grange closing down. Their fund is depleted, they have lost the trial and have to pay costs, and it is 9 long years since she went missing, and even the great Scotland Yard can't shed any light. Even the public seem to have had enough. So where is the renewed hope, coming from?
