Madeleine McCann's parents subjected to 150 abusive tweets a DAY from online trolls

Dr Synott is now planning to extend the research by analysing the pro McCann camp.

Here's hoping he becomes enlightened by their trolling activities!

It was expected after the last few days and the reports coming out.  He really should take a look at the other side, and although I certainly don't agree with and dislike some of the nasty side of twitter, some just posting spite and hateful comments, this is the case on both sides.  I certainly do not agree with some of the tweets on there, it is one thing discussing opinions and theories based on the files, but quite another just directing hate at either the parents or others on twitter.

Does Dr Who want to have a look at all the awful and horrendous tweets that were sent to the late Brenda Leyland.

As that's exactly what he should be doing and then writing up a report on that.

Thanks for this, it's a really interesting article and goes into some depth including reactions to tweets Dr Synott made himself re. TM.
He mentions 'shills' too (me, I'm still trying to understand exactly how a troll is defined).
I do feel that the way the article is phrased any person/group who discuss TM seem considered as trolls, which is inaccurate surely.
Worth a read imo.

The definition of a troll has changed from its original meaning of someone who baits others on-line simply for their own entertainment. Now a troll is someone who disagrees with the media, the McCanns, etc.

The media are using the term troll to dehumanise anyone with an unwanted point of view. If you don't agree with the McCanns, you are a troll. You are not an individual who has looked into the case, you aren't a human being with a whole lifetime's experience, you aren't someone who is prepared to debate openly. You are a troll.

Obviously, on the internet as in real life, each individual falls somewhere on the spectrum between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour but the term troll is being used for the entire spectrum.

Once we are labelled and dehumanised, we are sub-human and can be treated accordingly. Look how, for hour after hour, Martin Brunt tried to portray Brenda Leyland as something monstrous rather than a kind, gentle lady who, just as she stated, was entitled to her opinion.

They better research "the other side" too!

Admittedly I had to google her as I recognised the name but couldn't think what for.

I may have missed something but to state the bleeding obvious how can they be subjected to any tweets as they don't do Twitter and apparently don't have any social media accounts?
