I read everything Andrew.   How can they say how the mother killed this child (blunt instrument) as the child has never been found?
Glad to read her other children have been taken into care though.   Strange case imo to charge with a method of killing with no evidence?
Would the CPS allow this in the UK?

I seem to recall that others were present witnessed it and confessed (although don't quote me on that).

The CPS have charged others in the past with murder without a body.

There are a lot of parallels with the McCann case with this one.

Can I suggest that if anyone comes across a newspaper article that is supportive of the McCanns in any way, that they copy the link and the article in full over to this site.

I would rather not reward the press by clicking on their sites when they print the usual McCann guff

Gerry has in the past hit out at trolls targeting his family with threats of violence and kidnapping, and said he worries about his 12-year-old twins Sean and Amelie using the internet.

I bet he does and I feel so sorry for the twins if they read some of the official files.

Hold your horses, what she ultimately said was had they not if left their 3 children alone there would not have been an opportunity for the child to have been kidnapped (if you believe that theory).

I'm sorry but i agree 100% with her comments. No, they didn't deserve what happened through their neglect but ultimately they are responsible.

When parents make reckless decisions, reckless outcomes occur. They are guilty of child neglect point blank.

Tell ya what McCanns, report me. Report me for being convinced Maddie came to harm due to your neglect and reckless behaviour.

Report me for personally finding your actions after the "disappearance" very odd to say the least.

Report me for believing the best trained Dogs in the world at what they do for marking your appartment, kate, the toy and your car -which you didn't even have when Maddie was still alive in your possession.

Or better still, forget reporting and spouting your version of events and take this lie detector test you was once so sure you wanted to take until it was actually offered to you?!

The only victim here is Maddie. Not an ounce of sympathy can i feel for two parents who let their child down so badly!

Nah, it's empty threats.

Genuine threats of violence and/or kidnapping would have had the McCanns running screaming straight to the press ...then the police. And, as a matter of interest, how many times have they actually been physically or even verbally attacked in the last 10 years?

There was one silly remark wasn't there about someone threatening to shoot Kate?

Apart from that, I don't know of any incidents in the real world where anything has been said or done in the presence of the McCanns.

No, I have never seen anything like that.  If there had been such incidents we would never have heard the end of it.  Decent people have a right to say and discuss things, and at one time it would be in the pub, or shops, now it is on the internet, and yes, a lot more can view it, but you have to click and log in to do so, so your choice.  It is the papers fault for constantly reprinting these so called 'nasty' tweets and making them known to the public. It was the media that hounded Brenda Leyland, I have never seen such exposure to such a non story, every 15 mins or so on Sky news, and worldwide coverage.... it was totally uncalled for, there were far more pressing items  in the news that day.   We are led to believe the McCann's do not read or participate in social media, then why on earth are they making such a fuss and getting this all over the press?  

It seems it's ok to question everything, monarchy, government etc. but mention this case and it is taboo.

If I remember correctly, no action was taken by the police and the person explained it as referring to a starting pistol as she was running a marathon.

I have wondered the same thing for years i dont want any harm to come to them,i find it strange that as far as we are aware nobody says anything to them about what they did and have done since.I have also found it strange that nobody in the village says anything either.

If i seen them on holiday where i live i would find it hard not to say anything to them.

They have some friends who live a few roads away from me. I've never seen them but I know plenty of people who have seen them around the town. Even in the early days the reaction was to either ignore them completely or stare at them. I'm not aware of anyone ever having approached them. They have a hardcore of supporters (funnily enough made up of the people who sit in the front row at my church but don't start me on that), whereas most other people I know are very skeptical including a whole raft of Police Officers.

The villagers have all been gagged, IMO.

When little Madeleine McCann was snatched from her bed in a Portuguese holiday villa while her parents dined nearby, the story horrified and gripped the world.
The hysteria surrounding paedophiles preying on popular resorts reached fever pitch.
Irish mum and journalist Brenda Woods was holidaying nearby in the days after Maddie went missing. Having driven to the epicentre of the story she became the first Irish journalist to speak to Kate and Gerry McCann.
Here, as the tenth anniversary of Maddie’s baffling disappearance approaches, she recalls what it was like to be close to the events, and her haunting meeting with the McCanns.

After my decision to leave a family holiday in Alvor and go to Praia da Luz, it was as if everything I had read up until that moment had been condensed into one focal point.

I had finally got what I wanted all along – to meet Kate McCann.

And that was why the shock of seeing her and husband Gerry standing under the Portuguese sun filled my head with a temporary blur.

I was a parent as well and I was devastated for them in their moment.

During an encounter like this it can be difficult to maintain a professional stance and I did struggle to find a way through. Holding on to her hand, I began a mumbling conversation, noting the gold Celtic cross chain around her neck glinting in the sun.

“I’m from Ireland,” I muttered, and she nodded. Awkward was the feeling. Then a glimmer. “Oh, Ireland,” she said, and I anxiously remembered reading how the McCanns had enjoyed holidays in the West, and flashes of Maddie sitting on a wall with her cousins eating ice-cream sped in front of my mind.

It had been three weeks since their four year-old daughter Madeleine had disappeared from their apartment at the Ocean Club and I was the first Irish journalist they had met.

I thought back a few days, to a time when my husband and myself had just settled into nearby Alvor – with both our children, aged three and five.

It was our second trip to Alvor in Portugal and it had been booked months ahead of the disaster that was to engulf the entire country and which would take in the rest of the world and leave a tidal wave of worry still staining it 10 years after the event.

For us, Portugal has always been a place of safety. The fact that our kids were ‘brought up’ on Portuguese beaches is a testament to how much we favoured the laid-back environment we felt ourselves in.




On that day in 2007, I took the morning off to go to Praia da Luz, to see if I could find out anything.

My husband had mixed views on the idea but knowing I would go once I set my mind to it, he waved me off in the taxi with words of caution to come home straight away if I felt upset.

The taxi man talked, as we would say here, the hind legs of the proverbial donkey, peppering the route with conversations about the houses along the road.

It was only as we neared Praia da Luz that he asked me what had brought me to the village?

I mentioned that I was a journalist trying to write a story about what had happened. At this point he drove the taxi into the centre of the square and stopped talking, making a very serious and sad face, just shaking his head. The light humour of the past 30 minutes evaporated.

I paid my fare and promised to be there in the same spot in an hour if he could return.

I was still somewhat in holiday mood and it only hit me when I turned around and noticed I was standing alongside the medieval Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, the white and yellow edifice that I had seen countless times on the news and in the newspapers.

In the cool interior of the church I walked up the side aisle and came to a large photograph of Madeleine, to the left of the altar, with a row of candles beneath. I lit one, and said a prayer, and on my way out met a lady who told me the McCanns would be around later.

I had decided to walk down the sloped cobbled street towards the heavy rocks along the beach and follow the promenade path to the left which curved along the wide inlet.

The beach was peppered with bathers and sun-worshippers. The little cafes on the end of the walkway, leading off further into the town to the north, full of tourists, everyone with a sense of unease.

Walking back along the path I met with two Irish tourists, a husband and wife from Limerick who told me they were upset for the family. I found out the Ocean Club was nearby so I walked to it.

The Ocean Club seemed to sit like a large walled fish-bowl on a hill just a few yards from the sea. Very self-contained and luxurious.

I met a BBC reporter and felt sorry for his cameraman, carting that weight in this heat. There was going to be a press conference in an hour near the beach. I thought I’d be back in Alvor by then, sipping a nice drink. So I ended up walking alongside the cool white walls surrounding the Ocean Club and reached the gate. I looked up to the right along the steps and to the beginnings of the patio area to the family’s holiday home. To the left was a large expanse of wall and shrubbery.

On the road, a group of children went by with their minders, each child tentatively linked together with gentle wrist bracelets. I walked into the complex through the front reception door.




Glum tourists were waiting everywhere for their departure buses. Many yellow ribbons were directly outside the entrance. So many tied up, still others swaying limp in the cool breeze. No-one wanted to speak.

When I let go of Kate McCann’s hand outside the Church, much later on, I had watched as their press helper, Clarence Mitchell, guided them over to another camera crew who seemed to have appeared as if by chance.

Then I watched Maddie’s parents walk down to the coast and to those large sandy rocks.

They sat and I remained nearby, as they looked desolate into each other’s faces and a young boy tip-toed to their left, gingerly among the rocks with a small net, trying to catch minnows among the rock-pools.

Someone on The 3As said he was going to Rothley to shoot them that evening - he even announced when he was departing. I remember some discussion about it on the board later.

I have advised The McCann,s and 8 senior partners of Carter Ruck together with the principal of De Lisle College, that it my intention to advise Sean & Amelie McCann that there is a strong possibility that their sister Madeleine lies buried under the Murat driveway.

"The Sun" newspaper in collaboration with the UK government sought to shift the focus off the Murat property, because Portuguese police planted DNA in the McCann hire car, and compromised the case.

This evidence sits in 3 secret files held by Theresa May who was then the UK home secretary. The closing of the McCann case was a breach of the Treaty of Lisbon by Prime Ministers Jose Socrates & Gordon Brown - We will now pursue this matter in Portuguese courts.
