Re: *UPDATE MORE FUNDS GRANTED TO CONTINUE - Scotland Yard ask for more money to carry on investigation into Madeleine case
There are those on twitter that are in the usual meltdown mode. Do they not want to know what happened to Madeleine, and do they not want the perpetrators brought to justice? The way they are acting, swearing and name calling you would not think so, and these are the 'antis' If they wanted to cover this up would so many people be involved, would they keep extending and extending using tax payers money (knowing they are getting angry) for ever and a day.......... just how long can they keep doing that? The reason some are getting so hot under the collar is because Op Grange is doing their job, slowly and methodically, and at the end of the day, I do believe we will have closure. How long it takes doesn't matter, some criminal cases in history have taken many years. I just cannot see them continually asking for funds and getting them if there wasn't some sort of evidence they were working on. The PJ are in the same situation and seem to be continuing quietly without all this fuss, surely if there was a cover up they would have bowed out long ago?

Or the paedophile who's been paid to confess on his death bed is still hanging on. My guess is that the continued funding is going towards above-mentioned forensics tests which, as mentioned, are improving at the speed of lightning - and that the items of evidence will, eventually, become very helpful.

I think that Operation Grange is teetering on the edge of proving what most people have suspected all along, or at least helping the PJ to prove it , and they can't bear to think of giving up. If this was a cover up it would have ended long ago and no requests for further funding would be made

I agree with this too - I really think the clock is ticking for the McCanns.

Dare I suggest the elephant in the room is that the fund as it stands now is just a legal fighting fund as it was said to be by uncle K right at the beginning? All talk about it is just the usual spin?

Prof David Wilson doesn't seem too happy with SY asking for more funding...........

Surely it’s now time to stop funding this from the public purse? Last April we were assured police were pursuing a “critical line of enquiry”; November brought the “Bulgarian woman”. It’s got and is going nowhere.

Re: *UPDATE MORE FUNDS GRANTED TO CONTINUE - Scotland Yard ask for more money to carry on investigation into Madeleine case
That each extension granted is for months rather than years indicates to me that this is endgame. The big question for me is why OG keeps asking for and gets extensions.
The obvious answer is that OG are waiting for test results or an aspect of the investigation is taking a long time to pick apart but it may be that OG have completed their investigation and are waiting for the go-ahead from Portugal. If this is the case, the funding keeps the operation active and avoids awkward questions.
Another (admittedly unlikely) possibility is that the funding is not needed but has been requested to keep the McCanns off-guard and not expecting a 4am knock on the door in the next few weeks.
I think that, if the extra funding is needed to tie up loose ends, it’s likely that the police already have a good case against the McCanns and may decide to proceed with what they, and the PJ have, if funding is denied.
I don’t think things are going well for the McCanns at all.
IMO

Latest from Blacksmith fits here.
It would be a mistake to think that the silence blanketing Grange conceals inactivity by the parties involved. Pieces have been whizzing around on that chessboard since 2011.
Everything remains on target.

Correction
Fuss time about Grange once again: an opportunity to correct something. It looks like we were wrong about an important aspect of the Yard investigation. It appears that Grange are telling us the full truth when they state that the McCanns are not suspects in this investigation.
Why?
It runs like this. First, no minister, prime minister or any other member of the government can order the investigation of anybody, despite the wonderful powers allotted to UK governments by assorted McCann sceptics. That's just the law and it protects us all against the assorted lunatics and bastards - always excepting the wonderful Mr Rees-Mogg - who govern on our behalf.
But what it can do, via the Home Office, is, as we know, authorise an "investigative review" in certain cases. The McCanns asked for one and the government, after consultation with the Portuguese, granted it. In this case Mr Bennett, to give that awful character his due, is correct although, as always, his reasoning and his inferences are wrong: the remit and therefore the legal status of an "investigative review" matters very much indeed.
There is no provision in such a remit for naming any targets, for "clearing" them or for making them suspects: it is purely what it says, a review of investigations that had already taken place, despite the fact that a second, so-called "investigative" phase of the review was entered in 2013. There was never any question of the McCanns or other named individuals being targeted for investigation - it would have been illegal: only when prima facie evidence is publicly available can an investigation of individuals be ordered via the prosecution service (not the government) and there was none.
So, the Yard officers were being perfectly truthful in 2012 in stating that they were not suspects in any way in the review. That remains the case today.
But what about evidence emerging in the course of the "investigative phase" of the review from 2013 onwards? Could that affect the couple? It is not a question that anyone is willing to answer or even pose or discuss publicly; not the police, not the McCanns, not the lawyers. It does not suit any of them to do so. In that sense it is exactly analogous to the hole left in Operation Grange by the refusal of the same three parties to discuss the implications of Redwood's new timeline and the apparent identification of the person seen by Jane Tanner: it does not suit any of them to do so.
Given the extremely muddy ad libs of the Yard describing such an investigative phase - i.e. not giving any defensible legal definition of it - it appears that Grange, in order to proceed with one at all, agreed to exclude the McCanns as suspects from that also in 2012, without making any formal commitments to the couple or their lawyers beyond those above.
No, said the Bureau wearily, that wasn't a cunning plan to protect guilty people, no, equally wearily, the Yard wasn't ordered to. They were obeying the law, as somebody should perhaps tell Mr Sutton. And with more than one eye to the future.
The parents aren't and never have been suspects in Grange. They never will be. The PJ, who have their own laws, have, as we know, adopted the same position. After Grange ends such undertakings have no meaning, of course: it does not lie within the powers of any of the above parties to exclude evidence garnered lawfully and within the terms of the remit during Grange from consideration by the Ministry of Justice in Portugal or the CPS over here.
It would be a mistake to think that the silence blanketing Grange conceals inactivity by the parties involved. Pieces have been whizzing around on that chessboard since 2011.
Everything remains on target.

Re: *UPDATE MORE FUNDS GRANTED TO CONTINUE - Scotland Yard ask for more money to carry on investigation into Madeleine case
I still think they could have found things when they did the dig. I don't think they were looking for a body but specific clues or objects. The reports of 'nothing found but old socks' came from the media - not SY themselves, they are hardly going to give a rundown on any objects found and who they might relate to.
Mark Rowley said last year - "As detectives, we will always be extremely disappointed when we are unable to provide an explanation of what happened. However the work carried out by Portuguese and Met officers in reviewing material and reopening the investigation has been successful in taking a number of lines of interest to their conclusion. That work has provided important answers.
Right now we are committed to taking the current inquiry as far as we possibly can and we are confident that will happen. Ultimately this, and the previous work, gives all of us the very best chance of getting the answers – although we must, of course, remember that no investigation can guarantee to provide a definitive conclusion."
The work has provided 'important answers'? He did also say earlier in that statement they had 'no evidence she was alive or dead'....so I don't know. Could this be like the case of Ben Needham where they just come to some kind of probable explanation?

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann will be given more funding for the search.
The Home Office has confirmed that the application from the Metropolitan Police for more money to keep the probe, called Operation Grange, going will be granted.
A spokesman said: “The Government remains committed to the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
“We have briefed the MPS that its application for Special Grant funding for Operation Grange will be granted.”
Government funding for the investigation has been agreed every six months, with £154,000 being granted from October last year until the end of March.
More than £11 million has been spent so far on the probe to find the missing girl, who vanished from the family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in May 2007, aged three.
Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leicestershire, have vowed never to give up hope of finding their daughter.
In 2011 the Met Police launched its own investigation into what had happened to the child.

#Madeleine Home Office approves another six months of funding - around £150,000 - for Scotland Yard’s investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. The probe has cost more than £11m so far.

Re: *UPDATE MORE FUNDS GRANTED TO CONTINUE - Scotland Yard ask for more money to carry on investigation into Madeleine case
If it is £150,000 then that would barely cover the 4 senior detectives pay again. Also how long has it been on £11 million!? Surely over £12 million now.
This case is certainly being treated very differently to the Corrie case. The Police even claim he almost certainly is in the landfill but are still shutting the case down.
To know why it keeps getting granted money...?

Re: *UPDATE MORE FUNDS GRANTED TO CONTINUE - Scotland Yard ask for more money to carry on investigation into Madeleine case
So we potentially have another year before seeing an end to this? As said above £150,000 will barely cover 4 detectives salaries, so what are they doing? Tying up loose ends? Building a water tight case? Are they stalling whilst they try and figure out some way of ending this mess and what is seen by many to be a whitewash (trying to figure out a convincing patsy or coming up with a plausible yet vaguely acceptable scenario as in the Ben Needham case?)
A majority of the public seem to be outraged by more taxpayer money being used. To put this 11 million into perspective, Boris Johnson spent 37 million on one failed project ( the Garden Bridge project) . Where is the outrage for that? To the government and people of their ilk, 11 million isn't much is it? I can believe they would not think twice about spending that amount to cover something up, if that's what they're doing!

Re: *UPDATE MORE FUNDS GRANTED TO CONTINUE - Scotland Yard ask for more money to carry on investigation into Madeleine case
There's the possibility that Operation Grange has completed it's investigation and these requests for, and granting of, extra funding are to keep the investigation publicly ticking along while the Portuguese investigation and the legal aspects are tied up.
Bearing in mind that the legal side encompasses two countries with different laws and legal systems, it could be taking years to sort out.

In my opinion, nothing. The amounts of money being discussed are just about enough to keep the file nominally open. I doubt there's any actual work being done, or any dedicated staff.
