Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe

Top cop's luxury Range Rover with in-car TV
Simon Harris ITV London Senior Correspondent
London's police chief today defended his new taxpayer-funded £65,000 luxury Range Rover equipped with a high-tech entertainment system.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said he needed the top-of-the range car to watch TV news programmes

The new Range Rover, believed to be bullet-proof, was delivered last year shortly before the Commissioner warned of possible cuts in police numbers.
Scotland Yard decided to replace the previous Ranger Rover because it had 130,000 miles on the clock

Sir Bernard told LBC he needed a large car because he travels with bodyguards.
– SIR BERNARD HOGAN-HOWE, METROPOLITAN POLICE COMMISSIONERYou can argue should it be such a nice car? Well, I do have some security arrangements which means there are more than one of us in the car, and it has to be quite a big one.The in-house entertainment ... what it means is I do get access to Sky News and a few other things because that's the way my life runs.
I have to run a big organisation and be responsible and be accountable to 8.6 million people often through the press or through MPs and other people who are elected so we have to respond quickly.
Things like that may seem a luxury, but I don't sit there all day watching TV, put it that way

Just another power crazy male swathed in self importance and willing to use the public purse to surround himself with the baubles of his position. We should be thankful he lives on this island and allows us to share the aura he must surely emit (not on Ruperts scale tho.lol).

Hogan Howe
I wonder what will be said once OG has been wound up with no charges or even suspects unveiled.

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe was expected to remain at the helm of the Met
But scandal surrounding Operation Midland may damage his reputation
Hogan-Howe has continued to devote himself to avoiding public scrutiny
He reportedly pulled out of an appearance at the Davos economic forum

Retire...?
So resigning... being pushed out the door or sacked...?
Could the timing (Feb 17) be of significance here...?

IMO just retiring, which seems to be the standard in the police force.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/1876092/met-commissioner-sir-bernard-hogan-howe-to-retire-after-sadiq-khan-did-not-extend-his-contract/
Snippets:
BRITAIN’S most senior police officer Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe is leaving the Met Police next year after Sadiq Khan did not extend his contract.
His contract had been due to run out in September but his departure in February is seven months before that day.
London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, had a fraught relationship with the Commissioner and had expressed doubts over his decision making.
During his campaign to be the mayor of London Mr Khan hinted at replacing Sir Bernard when he said: “It’s for the Mayor of London to have a big say in who the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police is.”
He had been granted a one-year contract extension in February but the former Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson and then Home Secretary Theresa May decided not to extend it by three years as he had wanted in order to await the result of this year’s mayoral elections.

Re: Retired Met Police chief Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe is being made a Lord despite overseeing failed 'witch hunt' on historic sex cases
With BH-H they deliberately went for someone very aloof and austere as opposed to his predecessor. Paul Stephenson was a lovely bloke ,but that in someways was his downfall BH-H was hated as chief constable on Merseyside. One of his pet hates was the Special Constabulary which he nearly decimated ( it has taken several years for it to get itself sorted out )
When he went to the Met the Specials there were naturally very concerned what would happen fortunately the big sports day of 2012 meant ,despite his prejudices , a large and functional Special Constabulary was essential and by the time the Olympics had ended, cut backs and the fact that Specials were more and more used as a recruiting ground for the Regular force meant Met Specials weren't too badly affected
He has actually reached the end of his original 5 year contract, but had a years extension, which he will leave half way through, the reason for his leaving date is being given as time to arrange his successor.
I am seeing hinted elsewhere that he may have problems with the Mayor of London ,but the truth will come out in February once he leaves
Editing now as I have read the bits posted whilst I was typing which kind of go with what I had heard

I think the next commissioner will be female, or a BME male

I hope that I'm not the only person who had to look up what BME stands for!

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has denied he is stepping down because of fears that new London Mayor Sadiq Khan would not reappoint him over concerns about a report into the Met's handling of investigations into historical sexual abuse claims.
