He's not being knighted to a 'Sir' poster, he is becoming a 'Lord' to sit in the house of Lords.poster wrote:The Met Police have not exactly had an unblemished record under his leadership. What is he being knighted for, exactly? I can think of quite a few cases that stink to high heaven in the past years under his leadership. Madeleine McCann being one of them, for instance. I am unable to find a single intelligent thing that he said about this case, imo.
The retired Metropolitan Police Commissioner will get to sit in the House of Lords and help draw up legislation under his new title.
Hmm....great...can't wait.

Yes, thanks - I can see already a 'Sir' now moving into the House of Lords, Lord help us.
This story in the Guardian from April last year:
Hopes were high when the UK investigation into the girl’s disappearance was launched in 2011, with Scotland Yard detectives later highlighting a sex offender who had targeted British families with young children staying in villas in the same area where Madeleine was last seen.
It would be nice to see some evidence of this 'sex offender' who targeted young children in the area. Where are there news reports on this? What did the police do about it? What villas are they talking about? What travel companies? Is there a single record of any of these alleged attacks?
The story goes on to say:
Despite no obvious progress since then, last week DCS Mick Duthie, who is head of the force’s murder squad, remained optimistic. He said: “There is ongoing work. There is always a possibility that we will find Madeleine and we hope that we will find her alive.”
I guess there would be unlikely to be any progress with regards to tracking down the elusive sex offender, seeing as there are no records whatsoever of a sex offend quite possibly.
And is there really a possibility of 'finding Madeleine' and a genuine hope that she will be found alive?
What weasel words, imo.

He has proved himself to be a defender of the establishment, so an obvious candidate for the House of Lords - I`m not surprised.

BH-H has always been a political animal, determined to climb the ladder for himself and not bothered about those left behind
He was never popular with his own staff, known for being austere and unapproachable. He was certainly not a coppers copper. By contrast they seem to have gone the opposite way with Cressida Dick who has a reputation for being approachable and listening to her junior officers. Already I have heard her say at least two things that BH-H wouldn't have dreamed of

His wife, Marion, is part of the royal establishment :-
"He recently took time off to marry his partner Marion White, who works as assistant to the Crown Equerry responsible for the Royal family's horses, carriages and cars at Buckingham Palace. Miss White was awarded an MVO in the Queen's birthday honours in June. They both share a love of riding – Mr Hogan-Howe becoming the first Chief Constable to lead the Grand National parade at Aintree."

It seems they`ve both been in the good books of the royal family.

It is not unusual for retired Commissioners of police to be made Lords, Eg Blair, Condon and Stevens
