EXCLUSIVE: Madeleine McCann family say police probe could get even MORE cash and time
THE INVESTIGATION into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann could be funded beyond September if police deem there is “still work to be done”, a family spokesman has said.
By Joshua Nevett / Published 3rd May 2018
Scotland Yard detectives are still searching for the missing girl 11 years after she vanished while on holiday with her parents in Portugal's Praia da Luz holiday resort.
An extra £154,000 of Home Office funds has reportedly been granted to the Metropolitan Police, allowing the force to continue their search until at least September.
But the family believe this period could be extended, with even more funds in the pipeline to aid the investigation.
Several lines of inquiry are still being pursued by Operation Grange, whose investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance is estimated to have cost the taxpayer £12million over 11 years.
On the 11th anniversary of her disappearance today, her parents Kate and Gerry have released a heartfelt statement saying that “hope and perseverance remain” in the search their “little girl”.
A local police investigation ended in 2009 but Operation Grange has continued their work, albeit with a scaled back force.
Clarence Mitchell, who represents the McCann family, has speculated that Scotland Yard could apply for more funding to extend the investigation beyond six months.
He told Daily Star Online Scotland Yard will lobby the Home Office for new funds if detectives feel there are new leads to explore.

"Several lines of inquiry are still being pursued by Operation Grange''
That's not really an accurate statement as far as I can see.
The latest official update from the Met ( Mark Rowley) said;
"The team has looked at in excess of 600 individuals who were identified as being potentially significant to the disappearance. In 2013 the team identified four individuals they declared to be suspects in the case. This led to interviews at a police station in Faro facilitated by the local Policia Judiciária and the search of a large area of wasteland which is close to Madeleine's apartment in Praia Da Luz. The enquiries did not find any evidence to further implicate the individuals in the disappearance and so they are no longer subject of further investigation.
We will not comment on other parts of our investigation - it does not help the teams investigating to give a commentary on those aspects. I am pleased to say that our relationship with the Portuguese investigators is better than ever and this is paying dividends in the progress all of us are making.
We are often asked about funding and you can see that we are now a much smaller team. We know we have the funding to look at the focused enquiry we are pursuing.
So 600 lines of enquiry/ individuals eliminated and what sounds like one 'focused enquiry' Also he mentions working well with the Portuguese. If they really are co-operating with Grange this 'focused enquiry' could be larger than people estimate from the £154,000 figure.

I think it very significant that SY and the PJ are working well together and I suspect that if they weren't then we would have heard via the Portuguese MSM - who have ways of getting information from the PJ. Nor have we heard that the PJ view of the case has changed at all.
My understanding is that the Home Office have refused to announce the size of the latest funding or specify the period it is to cover - so it could for example be £75,000 for 3 months.

Re: 11th Anniversary articles - EXCLUSIVE: Madeleine McCann family say police probe could get even MORE cash and time
I will put this here and change title of thread...
'We couldn't bear for Madeleine to be forgotten': Kate and Gerry McCann mark 11th anniversary
Kate and Gerry McCann have thanked the public for their "persisting solidarity" on the anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance.
13:22, UK,
Madeleine McCann's parents have marked the 11th anniversary of her disappearance and thanked the public for their continued support.
Kate and Gerry McCann said they would persevere in their mission to find their missing daughter, who vanished aged three while the family were on holiday in Portugal.
The couple used the official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page to thank supporters for their "persisting solidarity" as it "gets harder to know what to say or write" as the years go on following her disappearance.
The police investigation to find the missing girl, who disappeared from the family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007, has cost more than £11 million.
The post, written on behalf of Mr and Mrs McCann, said: "It gets harder to know what to say or write as each anniversary of Madeleine's abduction approaches then passes.
"Life is full and busy which helps but Madeleine is still missing and she is still dearly missed.
"Information continues to come in (incredible as it may seem after so long, although we are grateful for that) and work goes on. Perseverance and hope remain."
Mr and Mrs McCann, from Leicestershire, added: "Thank you to everyone who continues to support us and wish us, especially Madeleine, well.
"After 11 years such warmth and persisting solidarity is truly remarkable, and at the same time a real tonic and boost to our spirit. We couldn't bear for Madeleine to be forgotten or to become just a 'story'.
"She is a real person and still our 'little girl' and as we always have, we will endeavour to do whatever it takes to find her.
"Thank you so much for staying with us on this mission."
Last week, the Home office confirmed it was to provide an extra £154,000 for Scotland Yard to extend the hunt by another six months.

LANTERN OF HOPE Madeleine McCann vigil candle still burns bright 11 years after child went missing as Kate and Gerry prepare for memorial prayers

A LANTERN holding a candle for missing Madeleine McCann will be the focal point for family and friends today on the anniversary of her disappearance.
The beacon of hope remains lit around the clock as the search continues for Maddie, who was snatched aged three from a holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007.
Locals and well-wishers will join parents Kate and Gerry McCann at the war memorial in Rothley, Leics later for the emotional gathering.
Prayers will be said at the sculpture where 11 years ago a sea of green and yellow ribbons, cuddly toys, cards and messages of support were placed in the days after the little girl vanished.
Ex GP Kate, 50, and heart doc Gerry, 49, hold onto a glimmer of hope that their daughter — who would now be just shy of 15 — could still be alive.
Along with the parents, local vicar Rev Rob Gladstone is expected to lead prayers
Kate’s uncle Brian Kennedy, Maddie’s great uncle, also lives in the village and will attend with wife Janet.
Neighbour Mary Pritchard said: “No one can really believe it is 11 years since Madeleine was taken.
"But we’ll never forget her and we can only hope and pray that one day she will be found safe and well and returned to her loving family.”
“Our hearts go out to Kate and Gerry. We want them to know the village still thinks and cares about them.
"We will be praying for Madeleine, showing our support and loyalty after all this time."
She added: “It is symbolic and significant that the candle inside the lantern still burns every minute of every day for Madeleine.
"It is always there in the heart of the village. The light for her, guiding her home, never goes out."
Maddie was taken from an apartment in Portugal’s Praia da Luz in May 2007.
She had been left alone sleeping with her younger twin siblings Sean and Amelie while her parents were dining with pals in a nearby tapas restaurant.
British police continue the painstaking search for Maddie and have been given a fresh cash boost of more than £150,000 to extend their investigations until September
But after a seven-year £11.5 million taxpayer funded inquiry, codenamed Operation Grange, cops have still failed to unearth any significant new clue.
Eleven years on Madeleine’s presence if still felt in Rothley.
Shops display posters showing the youngster in iconic photos urging: “Don’t give up on me.” Cars have stickers in windows saying: “Never forget me.”
Gym-goer mum Kate's friends wear workout vests showing Maddie’s face — while she wears green and yellow wrist bands for her lost daughter to symbolise peace, hope and solidarity.

Re: 11th Anniversary articles - EXCLUSIVE: Madeleine McCann family say police probe could get even MORE cash and time
Pat Brown quoted in this, ........
Madeleine McCann crime expert says funds for 'final line of inquiry' won't be 'Holy Grail'
A CRIME expert who has researched the disappearance of Madeleine McCann does not believe the new funding will help Scotland Yard solve the case.
Criminal profiler Pat Brown told Daily Star Online that Scotland Yard does not appear to have found any “solid leads” since launching Operation Grange in 2011.
Detectives have reportedly been given another £154,000 to continue the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine, who vanished on holiday in Portugal on May 3, 2007.
Operation Grange, which has cost the taxpayer £12million to date, has been given a six month extension by the Home Office to pursue a “final line of inquiry”.
Clarence Mitchell, family spokesman for the McCanns, said the investigation could extend beyond that period if police deem there is “still work to be done”.
But Pat, author of Profile of the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann, said she was skeptical that the funds would help Scotland Yard find the missing girl, who would now be 14.
Speaking to Daily Star Online, she said: “Operation Grange has had seven years and more money than any missing child investigation to date and has not found Madeleine nor does it appear they have come up with any solid leads.
“I hardly believe they need more money to follow up on just one particular lead as if it was suddenly the Holy Grail.”
Pat suggested the Home Office may have succumbed to “political pressure” when deciding whether to allocate the new funds for the Madeleine investigation.
In 2016, Scotland Yard’s former commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe revealed the £12million Operation Grange search was nearing its end.
Investigations into theories of paedophile rings, a botched burglary attempt and abduction have proved fruitless.
Since her disappearance, aged three, cops have received reports of more than 9,000 sightings across the world.
However, despite claims she may have been taken to Belgium or Morocco in north Africa, detectives are no closer to solving the puzzle.
Nevertheless, lines of inquiry are still being pursued by Operation Grange 11 years after she vanished from her parent’s holiday resort.
On the 11th anniversary of her disappearance today, her parents Kate and Gerry have released a heartfelt statement saying that “hope and perseverance remain” in the search for their “little girl”.
In the statement, they expressed hope that Madeleine could still be alive, vowing: “We will do whatever it takes to find her.”

Good. Pat is stating what so many think and what is commonsense.

Re: 11th Anniversary articles - EXCLUSIVE: Madeleine McCann family say police probe could get even MORE cash and time
In the Daily Mail they drew attention to the fact that there were only seventy people in the crowd who attended the gathering in Rothley. They also commented on the 'casual dress' and Kate's (crass) poem. I'm convinced MSM knows exactly what it's doing - the poem is self-serving and just plain weird. The clinging on to 'hope that Madeleine is alive' and the airbrushing of even a glimner of realism looks increasingly unhinged and unbelievable and a crowd of seventy in a close knit community says it all. They look increasingly isolated and and it's a game of cat and mouse as far as I'm concerned - this time the MSM are playing a far more subtle game. RIP Madeleine, hopefully soon this farce will be over and you can be remembered with dignity. I hope the money is being spent wisely.

Seventy isn't many at all.
The huge Mcann family, the Healys, the Tapas 7, other close friends, members of their church, neighbours, villagers, work colleagues and members of Operation Grange (who keep the McCanns fully informed) must have stayed away in droves.

Has anyone heard of any of this, where on earth is this supposed to be happening...
Sick trolls target Madeleine McCann's brother and sister with online abuse
Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry have been hounded by online stalkers for years.

Trolls have targeted Madeleine McCann’s twin brother and sister 11 years after she vanished.
Photos claiming to show Sean and Amelie McCann, 13, as they look now were put on social media in recent weeks. The vile trolls also posted details of their school.
Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry, from Rothley, Leics, have been hounded by online stalkers for years.
But this is the first time the twins – who were two when their older sister vanished in May 2007 – have been targeted.
A source close to the couple said the posts, which have since been removed, were “utterly reprehensible”.
They added: “Going after two minors like this beggars belief. It is shocking.
"What goes through someone’s mind to go after two children with online abuse?
“Kate and Gerry have done everything they can to protect the twins from any unwanted attention."
A spokesman for the couple, who last night joined a prayer vigil in their village on the 11th anniversary of Madeleine vanishing, said they would not dignify the posts with a comment.
Sean and Amelie were asleep in the same room as Madeleine when she disappeared from the family’s apartment in Praia da Luz.
The twins turned 13 in February and marked the occasion by wishing their big sister would come home.
A family friend said at the time: “The party will be tinged with sadness because Madeleine is not here to join in the fun.”

Couldn't agree more. It has been a charade from day one, of course, but as you say 11 years down the line it is just a total embarrassment. The Emperor has had no clothes for a very long time indeed. While KM these days is looking pretty crushed, GM it would seem is still unrepentant. Are the MSM planning on pulling the rug....or is that wishful thinking?
ETA: Is there any evidence that the twins have been targeted? Wasn't it the parents themselves who put the twins in the spotlight at the beginning, failing to protect them from the media glare and also from the possible attention of 'the abductor' who is presumably at large as s/he has not yet been caught?

Could be some reference to the nutter's nutter, Birch, I suppose.
But even if you classify anybody who ever expressed the slightest doubt about the McCanns' version of events as a "hater", the one thing they would not tolerate online is that.
I can't imagine all of their schoolmates being quite so sympathetic, mind. It must be like walking on eggshells in their school.

The McCanns have themselves allowed the name of the school that the twins attend now (and that of their earlier one) to be published.
Yes, it does sound like when Stephen Birch was off his medication but it wasn't very recently.

Gathering at the Rothley War Memorial...
From one of the UK papers online already bolded and underlined :
(why, I have no idea)
Nobody does a better "Cook the man some eggs" look than Gerry P. McCann.

"Due to visit a candle.....which is said to be lit". Never thought I would read those words in that order.
