Officers who worked on the investigation into Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance were accused of 'neglect or failure in their duty' whilst working on the £12million probe

THREE Madeleine McCann probe cops have been secretly investigated for alleged misconduct.

They were all cleared but the detail of the claims has been kept under wraps.

Each officer was accused of “neglect or failure in their duty” while working on the Met Police’s £12million investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.

But two allegations were not upheld and one was later withdrawn after Scotland Yard found there was no case to answer.

It is not clear if the complaints were made by members of the public or Madeleine’s family.

Sources even hinted that internet trolls could be responsible.

One said: “Because the precise details of the allegations aren’t made public, it’s entirely possible good officers have been subjected to a complaints process even though there may be little merit in the allegations against them.”

Details of the cases were disclosed under Freedom of Information laws.

Madeleine was three when she vanished from her parents’ holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal in 2007.

A probe by Portuguese police ended in 2008.

The Met’s Operation Grange probe was launched in 2011.

What a useless story - well, it is The Sun.

Well, that in itself is interesting because someone must have heard something about this happening in order to request the details under the Freedom of Information laws?

I could see a scenario whereby those who stand to gain by discrediting the police might accuse the police of misconduct in the faint hope that the results could be used in court, should the case ever go to court....

Richard D Hall has nakedly accused Redwood of various criminal acts so it probably all sprang from something like that.

The word "nakedly" is conjuring up some images which perhaps I'm too old to be having!

Funny, but I had gained the impression that a naked Hall would not be an unattractive proposition to some of his female followers.....

He has stated that he'd like to see Redwood investigated for perverting the course of justice, IIRC. Not sure if plods are duty bound to act. I get all my information on police corruption from watching Line Of Duty.

I agree canada12, it is very specific information to be asking for under a FOI. Whoever requested it must have known that complaints had been made.

Why not an outright denial that the complaints were made by Madeleine's family? If the complaints had really been from members of the public or even *gasp* internet trolls I would expect that the sources, friends of the family etc. would be shouting it from the rooftops.

The timing also seems to be about right for when the police visited Rothley to "update" the McCanns.

Internet trolls means anyone who doesn't believe the McCanns version of events I do believe. So that theoretically could be the majority of the population?

Have the McCanns and their friends ever been ruled out as having anything to do with Madeleine's disappearance?

I fear there are worries that certain people were enjoying 'fun in the sun' while knowing full well that the 'searches' were futile. Greece....the Agarve. There are worse places to be I suppose.
