Says it all really,but what else was expected when they set out investigating an abduction before they had even read any files from the original investigation.

But despite 9,000 potential sightings all over Europe and even further afield the police are no closer to solving the mystery.

It seems to me that OG/Home Office are reluctant to let go as they have no way of coming to any satisfactory conclusion.
Reduced down in manpower to one man and his dog, the investigation can carry on for ever, or at least as long as the funding continues to dribble in.

Perhaps they've decided to work backwards, starting with a known end point (European gang of traffickers). Perhaps by working backwards they'll be able to identify certain members of this European gang of traffickers who were supposedly taking pictures of Madeleine and perhaps those photos could potentially link all the way to the McCanns and/or their friends. A possibility...?

We would like for someone to clarify this statement from article:

We have no recollection of anything similar.

Also about "Anti-child trafficking charity ECPAT International said Portugal was “attractive to traffickers” because of the ease in which children can be driven through borders" doesn't differentiate Portugal from the others EU countries on this subject, so no reason to be especially appetising for this sort of crime.

I must admit, after having been very dismissive of Textusa, I have begun to wonder in recent weeks if we're not actually on the same page after all. The problem is they can be so cryptic it's often virtually impossible to know what's being said. But I could have made all the points above. Portugal's only land border is with Spain, so why not carry out the abductions in Spain - you'd be several hours closer to where you ultimately wanted to be. Aveiro... just, why?
