Uri Geller owns an island, well an uninhabited islet, well a lump of rock in the Firth of Forth. Interesting as to why he bought it.

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
Just read in the Mail that Uri Geller is related to the Freuds. Why doesn't that surprise me? According to the Mail , Uri can actually predict the future.
Years ago...................and I DO mean years...................my mom, sister and I paid a £1 ( a princely some in the 60's ) to go see Geller perform at the Birmingham Town Hall . When we arrived we were informed that the show was off as Uri had received a premonition that he was going to be attacked by Arabs whilst performing . So very disappointed , off home we trotted. My mom wasn't too happy about it at all and wanted to know why, if Geller was so 'good' he couldn't have seen the problem BEFORE he collected the entrance fees! We never did get that money back!

Love that story nannygroves.
Perhaps, as this incident happened many years ago when he was a 'novice', he has developed/updated his skills since so this kind of incident wouldn't happen now!!!!

There's only a distant relationship with the Freuds if there is one at all.

Nannygroves, are you sure about the show in the 1960s? He didn't become known in the U K until the 1970s.

Definitely early sixties. I'll try and find out exactly when because it would be interesting to see how it fits in with his version of his biography. Will keep you posted.

He was born in December 1946 so would only have been 15 at the end of 1961.

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
Never ever say 'definitely' Nannygroves! You're quite correct Freedom , the show was early 1970's!! Just phoned my mom to find out and she still vividly remembers the year she spent a pound for nothing....................... even though she's in her nineties!

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
Occasionally my memory for trivia comes in useful. I felt sure that he was around 24 or 25 when he became known here so that would be the early 1970s. That was also a real personal turning point and I tend to recall things that happened at the same time better than outside events from calmer periods in my life.
He has done well for himself considering how many times he's been debunked as a fraud.
This programme that I saw a few years ago is still available.

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
Do we have any members of the flat Earth society here?
I ask because I have a Facebook friend who is trying to convince everyone that the Earth is flat. I'm always ready to listen to beliefs that may seem a little off the wall but this one is a challenge I must admit!
So far my friend has failed to come up with an answer to this one. If you look at a flat map representation of the world, Alaska and Russia appear to be thousands of miles apart, yet in fact there are only a relative few miles between them.

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
I think we could have laid odds that the gunman who shot dead a policeman in the Champs Elysee would be ident8fied by papers he left in his car. Just how often are we going to be asked to believe this nonsense?

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
I shall post that without comment!
By the way, Chatelaine, assuming that you mean Mr B, I've never heard him comment on this issue - only about the age of the Earth.
P.S. I've had this reply from my Facebook friend; I shall leave her to it - she's harmless!
P.P.S. Weird things going on but I won't make a conspiracy out of it! The comment shows as being there when I press send but then it disappears.
I'll just repeat what it said, rather than copying it.
"I take it that's supposed to be serious...?" - and loads of smileys.

Don't know how I missed this at the time. It is my understanding that Freud C and Geller are cousins.

I like a good conspiracy theory as much as anybody but flat Earth is a bit of a stretch I must admit. Flat moon, on the other hand....

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
Maybe very distant ones as Wikipedia says. Who's doing the claiming, I wonder.
It is claimed that Geller is a distant relative of Sigmund Freud on his mother's side.

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
In the article....another name who appears in this headfu@k on occasion.....
Clement and I had met on a jumbo jet, during the inaugural transatlantic flight of Virgin Airways — both of us were guests of Richard Branson. I was enthralled by Clement’s witty conversation, and we soon realised we were distant cousins on my mother’s side: he, of course, was Sigmund Freud’s grandson.....
Branson has helped with reward.....his sister owned a moroccan hotel Macs stayed in ....

I haven't come across this hoax interview with Stanley Kubrick before.
Only last month it was still being promoted by the Daily Star.

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
I'll put this one here as it also comes into the category of beliefs that give conspiracy theorists a bad name.
There are a lot of people who seem to believe that many female celebrities are in fact males - this is apart from all the Michelle Obama nonsense.
The latest one I've encountered today is the daughter of Alice Cooper - the latter is a man, despite the name! His daughter is blessed with the name Calico.
The conspiracy nuts maintain that it's all part of a hidden agenda to foist these people on us. I've bowed out of one discussion group after being told "no wonder you can't see this agenda or much else.... few atheists can see very much of anything at all". I was in danger of damaging both my head and the wall I was banging it against.

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
Why do you think they are all conspiracy nuts?
There is a lot of "gender issues" at the moment John Lewis and Strictly Come Dancing spring to mind and OH's elderly parents this weekend said something about The National Trust employees being banished to backroom chores if they didn't wear gay pride rainbow flag!

Re: Thoughts on Conspiracy Theories
I don't know anything about the gender issues mentioned.
I have looked up the National Trust thing and the original rule - which should never have been made in the first place - has been reversed.

I don't think that any of this can be comparable to the beliefs of the strange people who think that many, if not most, of female celebrities are actually men.
I felt like an uninvited guest at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party on that Facebook page!
